This video is so fucking amazing!!!!!! I'm not being dramatic when I say this changed my life. I thought I wanted to be a drag queen before I watched this video, but listening to everyone made me realize I'm already a club kid, I just have to learn how to beat my damn face lmao. I repressed my entire identity until I was in my early twenties and now I'm not afraid to show off the talents that I possess. It's never to late to start because that shit will always be in your head (I think it was Electra who said that) and I'm gonna let that shit out like I ate taco bell after a night out. I would also love to see a video about the macho rockstars being lowkey fruity like you mentioned!

Will! Hey son! You look fabulous and happy. Love you! Dion sent me the link to this at 1:36 on my phone. I finished watching at 2:51. I found it so captivating that I re-played certain segments. Dion emphasized Electra's advice for young viewers that doing drugs doesn't make you more creative or self-expressive. They're correct: I always preferred alcohol :). These are all such smart, articulate, obviously nice, good people, I would be proud to have any of them as my son/daughter, friend. If you just listened to them, couldn't see them, had your screensaver on and just listened, you'd want to hang out with them, no matter how they dressed or looked. Eden made a comment that we are "so, so, so visually based" a culture. It's true. Strange, since humankind's ocular sense is comparatively pathetic, but true. The point is since they are good people, that first and foremost, and then happy and creative and self-fulfilled, who would not accept them as offspring, sibling, friend, co-worker? Dion asked everyone to define Club Kid culture for...me, her dad, a straight, "pushing 70-year old", and Eden was the first to answer, "Nightmare," I took his answer to mean it would be my nightmare. Later, Eden commented that '80's corporate wear, "same suit, same tie" was "so monotonous". As you can see in my avatar, that was my look. For forty freaking years of my life, that was me, that was my self-expression, my "costume." "We can all be freaks," Dion said. All of this got me thinking about visuals. What if I, in that same suit in the picture, with my gray hair, with my lawyer's glasses went into a Club Kid club? I would be the freak that Dion said we all can be. Would I be accepted? I don't think so. One brief anecdote. In 2016 I attended a pro-immigrant rally in downtown Miami, dressed in coat and tie. Bought a sign supportive of immigrant rights. There was a woman there, seemed to be an organizer, who saw me immediately, did a double take and came up to me and said something like, "This is a pro-immigration rally." She kept her eye on me the entire time I was there, which wasn't long for I felt so unwelcome--like a freak. Marginalized communities feel this ocular bias infinitely more, and continuously. Bravo to Dion, to Will, to Macy, to Eden, to Electra and the others. Love out.

For an insight on this subculture from an outsider perspective, read Manhattan On The Rocks by Michael Musto. He wrote about the New York club scene for Details magazine and about pop music for the village voice, and wrote this satirical novel in the late 80s And just a note, the “LA” photo at 1:36 is in London

Idk if you’ll see this, but Dion your absolute commitment and respect to any of the aesthetics you’ve covered has made you one of my favorite fashion channels, by any chance do you take requests for certain fashion topics/aesthetics?
