The difference with Ukraine and nato is that Ukraine are not in nato. Its a completely different type of situation. He attacks Ukraine no one else will get involved in the fight, if he attack poland or any other nation in nato then he has to deal with the entire of Europe.

They have lost 400,000 troops, thousands of tanks and vehicles, planes, helicopters and invested billions more than he ever expected, so before he invaded Ukraine it could of been in his plans, but now he no longer has the means, or the men to carry out any attack on a nato country, and he is well aware that he would be on the losing side within a month.
