the drop your weight is effective, my child does that when im trying to pick him up.It makes it very difficult to pick him up even though he's not half my size.
omg, they also have other techniques. my 2 yr old niece blocks the armpit to stop picking up. do you get that? and there's stretching outward to slip out of the grip. they know bjj or some form of jj. weird.
Its amazing to see the natural efficiency in movement children use in there development and learning of their bodies. Jiu jitsu for adults is relearning the natural movements we already knew.
@@morpher728 gsp and his coach. And the Alines that gsp are fighting. Also that try to erase his memory while sticking porbs up his butt.he talks about it on rogan
It depends if he is skinny or not and weather he has a chin if your going to try that on a francis ngannou not even firas would be able to do anything about that francis is 270 pounds
King David bro firas is An amazing coach don’t get me wrong, but he’d get KOED in like 10 seconds if we’re being honest 😂doesn’t matter how firas zahabi trains
Why everytime bring up a ufc heavyweight ha ?? Not every person is francis. And firas can beat 99.9% of the population including every boxer that ever existed
Thanks for this. I love unflashy, simple, biomechanically sound techniques that are effective. There is a quote from Leonardo DaVinci that I really like: “simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. This reminded me of that quote because it is a perfect example of the truth of it.
Ahh- that is a cool quote. I like it 1mataleo. Numb nuts like me learned acronyms- KISS. Keep It Simple Stupid. Was a good way to learn to fight without overthinking it while in the ring. Firas is a bad ass coach though!
How can you justify these techniques when they are designed for a sport ( which is also fake a lot of the time ) People can get seriously injured from incorrect techniques.
Ynnek Thennek You're a idiot. That move makes complete sense and he was demonstrating how. There wouldn't be enough room to throw punches and if you tried to defend with punches then you're going to get slammed like Tito did to Evan Tanner. This guy's is in the top 5 of best mma coaches in the world. He trains GSP and Rory McDonald among other greats. You will never learn shit if just assume you know everything and won't even take advice from a master of his craft.
i really wish there was more reputable MMA gyms around. I've been to a few that run wild with testosterone , people actually fighting and just plain dirty. Tristar in Toronto one day maybe ? :)
If you're at a even a beginner level. I highly recommend traveling and doing seminars. And if you can afford it find a good brown or black belt who gives private lessons. That way you can supplement the lack of technique at your gym with what you can learn in an extracurricular way
What I like about this is that you can still use this against an equal size opponent to yourself, especially if they are an aggressive fighter. Or have a longer reach than you. Great stuff man
this is so helpful. you are extremely clever, Firas. this doesn't even rely on getting a grip, it's all hip positioning, footwork and framing. so easy, so effective.
I'm here after the Rogan podcast. And I am not surprised with Coach Zahabi's fluidity. Coach your team is right! You look like you would beat Rambo's ASS!! OSS.
I always knew you were a great coach - but to be a great coach, one doesn't have to be a great fighter. You look very skilled in any of your videos I've seen and very capable. Why did you never compete in MMA? Was it due to coaching taking up all your time?
Pretty sure he was a Muy Thai champ. And also a very high level grappler, so yeah it would make sense. Maybe he feels he's too old to compete at that level? I know he's been at it a while but he doesn't look old to me. Hard to say, but I'd be shocked if he was past his early to mid thirties.
Sean Ó Briain He fought before and it wasn't for him. You have to have a certain type of mentality when inside a cage or ring. Some of us prefer to stay in the background become lifelong students of the game and bestow that knowledge to others.
Hey Firas, Great video as usual. Not sure if you are taking suggestions for future videos or not, but a video on setting up takedowns with strikes like GSP did so well so so many years would be really cool.
GREAT AS ALWAYS!! I like how it goes with greco roman principles of sagging the hips first and just adding the arm frame "ala" Gracie BJJ combatives. Again proving MMA is the best self defense out there.
So great! I had my shorter wife play with the framing against me and wow, so effective! I've seen this taught before, but... not as clearly (and not, as a result, nearly as effective) So much respect Firas! Is your affiliate program selling some sort of DVD, or is it for creating satellite dojos?
Sensei Ono Northey i practiced a 7 punch combo i learned from bas rutens self defense videos on my wife, and i just got out of jail and im now getting a divorce as well as a felony. so be careful about practicing on the wifey.
Hey Firas, please make a video on balistic stretching, for improving high kicks, i saw a video of you saying that you dont believe in static stretches, please explain to us, greetings from your fans in Brazil...
Firas is the best coach anyone could ever hope for . Not only he has the knowledge but he articulates and demonstrates everything so well. GSP hit gold with a coach like this
Coach got hands! Dustin that dude, beautiful footwork, angles, level change, and how quickly you closed distance. Need more coaches like you, with the ability and knowledge to pass on to others. Great vid
Isn’t this the entire idea of it though, why would the pro not want to be tested when he is depleted? Hardly going to be Beneficial for him if he just schools Zarabi. Nothing worth doing is easy, no easy training works. It’s made to be tough for the pro.
Tristar Gym hey coach Firas great video, I'm only 5'6" so I love information like this, as even average size is still bigger and taller. I did have a question though. your statement towards the end about not wanting to wrestle a taller opponent, caught me off guard. I thought that wrestling and BJJ was a great equalizer when it comes to size. with a lower center of gravity and leverage. I am a natural grappler, and normally this is my goal, not to stand and bang with those that have long reach, but get inside and get the takedown? And here you seem to advocate the opposite, saying wrestling on the inside favors the bigger taller opponent?
Awesome video from a 5'9" guy...wish I was taught this stuff 20 years when I was fighting. Lol. Still good to know though. Great video!! Thanks Firas! Cheers pal.
I love Firas. I've been watching The UFC since i was in middle school around 2000 - 2001 or so. As I became more and more of fan I began to obviously follow certain guys but i was still basically a casual. Back then i loved Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock which goes to show you i didnt know shit lol. Eventually I started understanding the sport much more but somehow I was never a fan of GSP. Being 32 years old now over 20 years into this shit I understand georges game much more and respect it. The wrestling used to lose me whereas now i get that wrestling is huge. All this being said it wasnt until a few years ago that I learned of Firas Zahabi and I became a huge fan of his. His mind is brilliant. Wether its fighting or other things such as philosophy. His JRE episode where him and Joe end it with a phenomenal discussion on the philosophy of science is one of my top 3 favorite JRE episodes. That hour long discussion blew my mind and made me a Firas fan for life. Keep it up brother
Tried to deny myself, but couldnt help it.. To some people criticizing this demo about technique, "opponent" or uselesness in real combat: a) partner is there to help demonstrate the movement, not to fight Zahabi b) drill is not about closing distance rather than getting out of clinch, which taller opponents usually do (to answer those "what if knees, what if teeps etc") c) when you are skilled and drill/spar with equally trained friend, you both develop a sense on what kind of pressure/speed and power you can apply in order to have a good one (in case these two are even sparring in the video..) Had to, I'm sorry in advance =D
flip it around coach! I request a video that teaches us taller guys how to fight the smaller faster guys! I am a jiu-jitsu fighter only at the moment so that's what I am most curious about, but a striking video would be very interesting too as I want to dabble a bit in MMA later on
i would kill to have you here in germany firas your such a inspiration i love you work and i thank you your technique is just beautiful in every aspect
I like Zahabi's movements, they are fluid and beautiful to watch and he is without doubt an absolute master. It would however be nice to see how he holds up against a real middleweight trying hard to knock him out (during the stand up exchanges) and has outstanding Jujitsu and wrestling ability to control the fight on the ground. What do you the rest of you think?
i would like to add, try to injure them as badly as possible, go for heel hooks, those are amazing, also when choking don't stop if you feel the heartbeat
No offense Coach but I have a couple questions! 1. When you sag your hips, what's to stop the guy doing a basic Tai-otoshi or Osoto gari? These are judo throws that work well when a person sags and puts all their weight on their feet. 2. When you frame the face. What stops him from turning away and doing a basic hip throw when you give him space to get his hips in? 3. When you frame on the face, are you not giving the taller man a Russian tie? Again I'm a big fan of your videos, and your mentality and philosophy! I can't wait to watch more and wish you nothing but the best!
Hey Firas! Cheers for the video, I love the way how you lead with your rear hand. Reminds me a lot about Floyd and Bernard :-) Can't you make a video how to do that properly? I always miss when I do that :/
This is great stuff, Coach Firaz. I'm a follower of your videos. They provide practical and immediately applicable techniques. My question about fighting a taller opponent is how do you deal with his knees and elbows? Donald Cerrone for instance has a wicked knee which he uses effectively to meet opponents who slip and blitz in. Jon Jones throws killer elbows in mid-range and from the tie up. Thanks again and looking forward to your response.
This is great! As a very tall Bantamweight, I am never matched against longer or taller opponents, so this is great if I flip the script and use it to know what to avoid. Just a thought, I always hate body punches from shorter fighters more than anything else in the world. There's more torque and they dont have to drop level as much to land. Plus they tend to punch upwards so it doesnt do as much when to the face.
Great video as always Firas. Could you possibly check out the rugby fight between Manu Tuilagi and Chris Ashton? I think you would like to analyse the power shots landed!
Thank you for the video it’s a very well done documentation on how you should counteract a toll fighter I noticed Colby Covington does a lot of this he’s a monster against the fence similar to Khabib I also noticed the tall opponent never was on the aggressive side I believe if he had turned up the pace and forced you to react to him it would’ve been a little different he’s been a thermometer not a thermostat a thermometer reacts to it surroundings a thermostat changes its surroundings something to think about I would love your feedback
what would be the breakdown on how to defeat connor mc gregor, seems like only nate diaz managed it being good on his feet, outboxing connor. seems legitimate to think closing the distance and wrestling, taking him to the ground. circling away from that left hand. avoiding footwork traps that he may use to trap you and being careful of your movement, use lots of kicks since he is unlikely to take you down. and work him while being cautious so he gets dragged into the later rounds where he is known to get tired. but every time a fighter steps against him they swing wildly and really dont perform. what is the game plan for him?
awesome..now what would really be golden is if u can share a good tactic for fighting a group of big men in small box. I guess the first step is surviving the first part of the onslaught? maybe wait for some openings. *>real tools
I got to find a way to move to Canada! I love your training and what you talked about on the joe rogan podcast about intense workouts. Most gyms try to kill their fighters lol you understand moderation
