Code Geass Episodes 7 & 8 Reaction & Discussion! 

I think the reason why Lelouch has that "it's a game" and "they are my pawns" perspective, on war especially, is because of his childhood as a Brittanian prince that was raised to compete with his half-siblings in a bloody battle for the throne. The empathy we saw so far before this episode was nurtured after his mother was assassinated, he was forsaken by his father and he saw how someone like Nunally gets treated once they lose their royal privileges. So, I see the "it's a game" ideology as something he slips back into because that's how he was taught to think of war when he was very young and I really love that as a flaw for him.

You figured it out! Britannia as a nation requires you to prove your strength and worth. Which is exactly what Suzaku is trying to do. He's wants to prove the worth of the elevens.

I've watched this series a few times and every time I kind of see new things or think of how the interactions are a bit deeper, and the point about the rice balls that Cecille made for Suzaku is a new thought for me! Really good point to show how our 2 main characters do effect those around them, even is a small way like sharing some culture

i love the fact that ep. 7 shows that lelouch is not perfect, he can fail, even with this power and intelligence he is still a student, still only human with his own bias, and how it affects him when he does dail and how he changes for the better or at least so it doesnt happen again

I'm probably in the minority in thinking that Lelouch wouldn't have been as bad as some of his siblings if he stayed a royal. Euphemia is a decent human and my gut says his little sister Nunnally would've been similar if she was still royal as well. Both of them would've influenced him. He's be neutral atleast maybe.

You should watch Zero's speech at the end with the JP voice acting and the official English subs. It has a different tone and probably one of Jun Fukuyama's best performances.

Lelouch is much smarter than Cornelia. He didn't lose to her strategy. He lost to her organization. Her troops followed her orders without question. His abandoned him as soon as it got hard. About Nina. She was assaulted by several Japanese men in the past. That's why she's so afraid of them.

Great video! On the he still thinks it’s a game perspective I think it’s more less that he sees the combat as an actual game and rather that he was complaining about it not being fair. In a game especially like chess which he excels at both sides have equal pieces and opportunity to win or lose. But in actual combat and war this is the first time he’s been at a disadvantage. And why he said he will build his own troops so he can decide the conditions of his battles.

Cornelia didn't outsmart Lelouch. The situation would become a stalemate, if the "terrorists" had followed his order. He would have to withdraw, because his "soldiers" were simple man, fighting only for their lifes. Cornelias soldiers were trained soldiers. Clovis lost, because he thought he had to deal with a strong resistance group, not with people like Lelouch and Todoh. Lelouch had the element of surprise, so it didn't matter that the "terrorists" in Shinjuku weren't really organised. Cornelia knew of Zero and had experienced soldiers. He knew that, but what he didn't knew was what kind of difference trained soldiers can make. He didn't foresee, that his solders would basically abandon him, as soon as they forced Cornelia to retreat. Even after that, the people did loose only one man under Zeros command. The only thing he needed to do, that would have turned this battle around, would be to call the people from Shinjuku. Kallens Guren could have really have helped them.

Am I the only one here that has been looking at several reacts of code geass, and feeling that for once, the reactors actually are often on point with what the show is trying to convey and making relevant discussions about it?

I find Lelouch to be a very relatable portrayal of a person. IRL, no one's all good. Even those who strive to do good stumble and sometimes do things they're not proud of.

Honestly, if this branch of terrorists just listened to Lelouch, they might've won, but it's also true that Lelouch was playing it too similarly to Clovis. I think this was necessary to make Lelouch take them way more seriously as opponents

Lelouche is the 11th Prince and 17th line to the throne. Meaning he has 10 older brothers and six sisters ahead of him (I’m actually guessing if he has any older brothers, since his mother was the fifth consort) They’ll be introduced later into the series, but we do know the Crown prince and Crown Princess, those that we know of as this time of this point in the series He was briefly mentioned, Schneizel, is the second prince and Prime Minister Cornelia is the second princess while her sister Euphemia is the third princess, Clovis is the third prince, We do not know what their in line to the throne number is

Awesome job on picking up that lelouch has selfish reasons for his actions! You're a bit off on the reasons but super close for where you're at in the show! No one in this show is selfless. Lelouch has a goal and it's obliterating Britannia, notice how he didn't say he's trying to save Japan.

One of the few reactors that even *tried* to understand Nina. Most others just completely dismiss her. While we can't use someone's past as "justification" for things like racism, you can clearly see that she's absolutely afraid of the Japanese people.

Always found it interesting how indifferent CC is to Brittania's ideology. Given how she was treated by Clovis I expected her to hate Britannia. But she's rather passive about the whole thing. Should be interesting to see what her deal is.

Episode 8, let's gooooo! The Black Knights have arrived on the stage! Just an absolute breakneck episode, I really love how tight and intense the writing and screenplay get when things get dicey, really sells the suspense in this series! It can be a bit much at times with all the blink and you'll miss it nuances, but if your eyes are fixed on the action it's still pretty follow-able, definitely not a laid back "play while doing dishes or laundry" series imo!

Given your conversation between these episodes I absolutely cannot wait for you both to get to the end of this masterpiece of an anime. Literally one of the greatest endings of any anime ever. Hilariously enough in stark contrast to another anime you guys have watched which is actually my second favorite while code geass is my third, neon genesis. Amazing anime but one of the most hated endings of all time even tho I love it and y'all didn't (understandably to a certain extent).

regarding the question at 8:20 "no other government can step in or do anything?" There are other governments in the world, other nations than Britannia. Of these, most are either holding an uneasy state of nonaggression with Britannia as they are a little too powerful to invade for now... Everyone else are somewhere on the path to being conquered and turned into special region 12 or whatnot. In this story Britannia is almost a global hegemony so no, unless you live in one of those few nations too powerful to get stepped on right now your only recourse in the face of Britannian oppression is to grovel and lick their boots or if you dont do this? Suffer, Surrender and die. In that order usually though some get 'lucky' and get to skip directly to death. THIS is why Susaku is an ungodly moron for thinking he can change this system from within. The whole empire has been Built on the broken backs of those conquered by them and the only reaction their leadership considers remotely acceptable in the face of defiance is to stamp it out with extreme prejudice. Lelouch may break a ton of eggs with his path but at least it has a Chance at success where Susaku cant even hope for a decent omelette when all is said and done trying things his way.

Glad to see you justifying Nina's reactions and how the show portrays her so far. Its not as black and white as it seems. Its just unfortunate that the show seems to only focus on her fear of numbers instead of further developing her character so far. Smart and scared really defines her currently, and it really doesnt show her doing smart things but tropes of a brainiac student instead. I swear every time I've seen a reaction, she is immediately thrown away as a racist or just hated for how annoying she seems. Really makes me want to slam my head onto a table. Although i will refrain. Table-kun has been through enough.
