#teknofied P0011 is a generic OBDII code. This means that it has the same definition for the Hyundai Tucson and Elantra as it does on any other vehicle. VVT changes the frequency and distribution of gases entering and exiting the combustion chamber. It allows the engine to act as though it has different camshaft profiles at different RPM's.
The CVVT (Continuously Variable Valve Timing) system is installed to the chain sprocket of the exhaust camshaft. There is no variation in valve timing of the exhaust cam because the exhaust camshaft is driven by the timing belt. The timing of the intake cam is varied by the relative operation the CVVT vane to the housing. The CVVT controller regulates the intake camshaft angle using oil pressure through the OCV (Oil Control Valve). As result, the relative position between the camshaft and the crankshaft becomes optimal, and the engine torque improves, fuel economy improves, exhaust emissions decrease by changing the valve open/close timing of the intake camshaft.

I've been having problems for months! I have a 2008! Same code and same diagnostic machine! I replaced the VVT and Crankshaft sensor. Then it started missing like crazy almost stalling. I never knew there was a filter there. Thanks so much man. I hope this is the problem.

I also hope that's your only problem. When putting the filter back in, first make sure it's back in the bolt correctly. If the filter comes off in the engine it can be really hard to get back out. Cheers

Screen gummed up in mine. Topped off oil and added 8oz Seafoam. Went away within 100 miles.

The challenge with my 2006 Hyundai Elantra, is I have replaced new VVT solenoid valve and it's pre- oil filter. P0011 still exists. So what's up? Any clues?

Did you clear the error code? Error codes don't auto remove after the repair is made. Most cars to wipe codes you can disconnect the negative on the battery for 2 minutes and press the brake pedal once while disconnected. If you have a OEM stereo you will need the unlock code and make sure the drivers window is down so you don't lock the keys in the car if it self locks when reconnecting the battery. If you still have error P0011 you might have a lose wire or bad connection or the new VVT was DOA faulty from the manufacturer. If you have more then one error code the other fault might need to be fixed as well.

@@TEKNOFIED Yes O cleared error.codws with OBD2 Scanner after repairs, Also a battery disconnect & PCM disconnect..Full factory reset. I have ordered a New Bosch EVAP Purge Valve Solenoid as, watching live Data highway cycle, the Purge Valve Solenoid Command and Fuel percentage at random times there are anomalies, indicative of stuck stuck open and closed fits, between mostly stable performance. At these times O have pulled over of road ,checked Freeze Frames Data. One time it will throw a P0011.Then next time, having cleared the code, pre Engine light Trigger, it will throw a P0133. Although there is no EVAP system codes, the Random fits with Purge Valve Command and fuel percentage madness. My take is that the suddenness of the fits spins the PCM, or (ECU), into bewilderment, it doesn't know wht to do with the data, thereby in reading the Data, and compensating throws the codes. Also have ordered a Foxwell Smoke Generator, to test EVAP system, exhaust, fuel and Engine vacuum system. To detect any minor leakages. To stop throwing Engine light.

do you happen to know what that screen is called? I found it, cleaned it on my tucson. Worked like a charm. Now dealing with similar p0014 on my kia and I believe I found a similar bolt. But I can't find anywhere what this is called. I want to make sure before I weld a new a bolt head to the bolt that stripped. Thanks so much

Code coming up on my 2008 Hyundai Elantra I looked at the sensor tested it and it passed metal shavings in my little filter what can this mean

Normal engine wear creates metal files and it's the oil filter job to catch them. It can't catch all of them and will not catch any after the oil filter gets old. Oil filter changes should be done every 5000 kilometers, engine oil every 10k though some will debate changing both every 5k. It's important to do regular changes for this reason. With good quality oils and filters. Cheap oils/filters will just keep the engine going but does more damage over time.

Do you still answer questions on this video??? I have an Hyundai Elantra with the same code given but the symptoms are the older gentleman that owns the vehicle stopped for gas last night and his car won't start back Ive checked for spark and that good I've even tried a little shot of starter fluid in the breather intake to see if the fuel pump is not working and as it cranks it's only seems to try to fire on the 3rd or 4th engine rotation but it's a very slight firing any suggestions as to why it won't start

I was away for a few weeks. Have you fixed the problem? Was there any error codes? Check the timing marks are still lining up. You could try removing all the plugs then spraying starter fluid directly on each piston a good amount like 5 to 10 second spray on each piston put the plugs back in and try see if the cranks. Make sure the MAF sensor has no leaks in the hose. Also check the plugs for any water on them.

do you remember if you used any special protocol or stings or what app you used to connect I used a eml327 and 2 different scanners but was unable to connect using torque or any other app to my 2005 tucson g4gc it has power but cannot connect to the ecu@@TEKNOFIED

My friends car has this code and I’m trying to help her and her car isn’t going crazy or anything so I don’t think it’s a big problem. Is this the most common cause of this code?

The filter blocking up is a common problem. I did a job on one that after each clean a few days later it would be blocked again and error code would return. After doing a flush, clean oil and oil filter. I cleaned the small filter again & the problem staid fixed. I would recommend doing an oil change if you’re going to clean that small filter as it's a pain to get to.

@@TEKNOFIED okay she did an oil change and since I’m not near her I have to try and explain it to her through texts and calls so it’s hard. I told her to buy the vvt actuator valve and replace it. Is that not a good idea? Or should I just try and get her to clean the filter

@@rudydaberry122 Before buying a new vvt actuator valve, in most cases it could simple need a clean plus clean that small filter. I would clean them both first. If the vvt actuator valve is faulty? replacing the valve later is easy. Cleaning that small filter isn't.

Did you replace the sensor with a new one? Yes cleaning the screen is a must. Also check for bad connections.

You are correct a 15min drive would have been a better test. The codes didn't come back at all in the past 5 months however the same car blew the head gasket last week and tomorrow I start putting it all back together. It did cross my mind about cleaning this sensor and filter if that was the first sign of the head-gasket starting to fail.

Hi there can any one help me, got this same code and engine it has a really bad knock intermittently, can this failure cause the intake valves to hit the piston

No it woudn't cause the valves to hit the piston. You have something else going on. Maybe an old timing belt.

@@TEKNOFIED Hi there thank you very much, have put bore scope down into cylinders to check there was nothing on the piston also no sign of valves hitting piston, engine looks sweet, since I have the same fault code as you, I also did some live stream data while he was driving the actual camshaft position was 125.25 and the target was 89.62 about 2 mins into the drive these numbers became the same, sort of indicating an intermittent problem with the VVT , is it possible for that failure to cause a knock ? It's my granddads car ,it would make this knock intermittently over the past two years and he put some oil flush through it and since then it has only knocked once, he took it to the mechanic and they told him it's probably something on the piston but I have proved that wrong as there is no damage to any of the pistons with my bore scope. It has also had the Mass airflow sensor disconnected as it failed and ran fine without it so he never got it replaced as it was quite expensive ( personally I think it should be connected and working ) Just wondering whether you've experienced anything like that with one of these motors as its only done 101000 kms ? next time I go out there I will check the VVT valve and filter, the cam belt has only just been replaces as well and that intermittent knock coincidentally started after that, but the engine runs to well for the timing to be out a tooth, will still double check though. thanks Josh

I have seen the cam sprocket be put on backward before and also the timing belt incorrectly installed from the tensioning pulley over tightening the belt and both times the engine had a valve knock. From the sprocket, it knocked all the time and from the belt, it would only knock under load or in the higher rpm. The belt doesn't need to be a tooth out, over-tightening it can make it like 1/4 of a tooth out. The MAF sensor is very important as well. The ECU is adjusting other sensors to compensate for the sensor that is failing. without making sure all the sensors are correct and correcting any error codes you could be chasing this problem forever. When sensors fail and the engine still runs shouldn't mean it's something to ignore. The ECU is making other adjustments so you don't get stuck on the side of the road. Ignoring a fault leads to more problems later on. You will find MAF sensors on eBay for about $40 search for Tucson Kia Sportage 5WK9643Z. Take Care
