Hauntingly beautiful. Jo Stafford was so very big in the 40's and 50', and I loved her wonderful voice when I was a teenager. Sad, sad episode - Hen House, Cold Case. .... and this fits soooo appropriately.
This was the first episode of Cold Case I ever saw - I caught a rerun of it by chance and it got me hooked!! I followed it religiously from series 4 on!
@TrinkieTree The guy at 0:47 is a reporter friend of Stillman. He works at the paper where Lo (the victim) worked, which is going out of business. As they were clearing up, they found the letter.
@TrinkieTree If you watch the episode in a better resolution you can see a bit of it. Basically the article explains that Anton was a constable in the Dutch police force until the Germans invaded in May of 1940. While most of his countrymen resisted, Anton collaborated with the Germans and eventually became a Nazi guard at Auschwitz from 1943 to 1945.
@@winehouselover I wouldn't say I feel dreadful for him, it just seemed like his situation was as straightforward as it seemed. This is just TV though and everyone is made out to be sympathetic - if this were an actual real life case I would have 0% sympathy. I hate, hate HATE anyone that had anything to do with the third reich. It was truly horrific time in history that sadly seems to be happening again! As soon as trump goes, the better things will be💯
@@sammyeagleson5352 even where those whom are forced to be one, but kept their conciense?. You forgot those germans were the 1st victim of Nazi. Plenty Nazi officer rebelled and saved many jews, polish commies, fellow german resistance and many were killed and or worse
@@nurlindafsihotang49 yeah, this isn't about any of those people. And no Germans were in the SS or the Gestapo or a guard at a camp because they were forced. They got there by choice and were happy to do it.
@@nurlindafsihotang49 What we’re not gonna do is sympathize with Nazis. Because anyone who took on that moniker deserves ZERO. ZERO sympathy. Someone who was forced into service would SAY they were conscripted or forced; they were soldiers, troops, etc. But a Nazi is a Nazi. And while there were plenty of GERMANS who tried to help or fight back, not a single NAZI tried to help or fight back. Sorry, but if your grandfather, great-uncle, distant relative, whoever you’re trying to defend called themselves a Nazi, they were/are a monster.

this reminds me of the season 3 episode “Debut” where the doer also pushes his love interest, the victim, off a ledge to her death because he was worried she’d tell people his secret. ironically, one doers secret was being a jew and the others was being a nazi.
