Cold Steel - Mini Recon I 

I've been (ab)using my Recon 1 Tanto for about a year now. That tri-ad lock will not give a hair! Thank you CS for your amazing knives. A shame they have to be so pricy over here in Europe, but they are still worth every € I've paid.

Can't wait to get the clip point to go along with my full size recon 1. Absolutely fantastic knife. Thanks for giving me so many fantastic tools. Also can't wait to get my hands on the cutlass machete.It's like you guys read my mind for what i wanted this year.

These Mini Cold Steel Recons are a great EDC folder and tuff. You know it's never going to let you down. You can rely on it every time. And that's a great feeling to have.....Over here in Australia were in some states the laws are quite stupid these are a great folder in a lot of ways.... For us over here.

Really cool that the President of a company makes such videos. Not many others do that!

The tanto blade is also good for cutting open boxes because it has that nice secondary tip so to speak which bites in!

Nice looking knives, good idea making a smaller Recon 1.

The new Code 4 coming out in 2013 will have a 3-1/2" blade. Same triad lock design of the Recons and Voyagers. Comes in spear, clip and tanto point blade styles. Anodized aluminum handles in a gun metal grey color. Really looking forward to this new design.

YES! These are awesome. The perfect size. Not too much pocket real-estate and just a hefty enough blade for serious work.

I just got one for my birthday and I love it! My wife is awesome.

I dig the blades. I was going to buy an American Lawman, but I think this is what I want now. The spear point is a nice design. The larger Recon 1s are too big for EDC I think. This looks like it fits the bill. If you have a Bushman I recommend wrapping the handle with wax string. It works well for me. And for all the trolls on here, if you don't like Cold Steel you can change the channel. They make quality blades at reasonable prices. My Bushman never let me down in the military.

i picked up the clip point model last week and did a short rant about it.. i love it.. i wish though.. they could make some different color combos on the g10 scales.. but i understand for cost, they have to stick with one color.. i think OD green or Coyote Tan would look awesome on these..

Love many of your knives Lynn. Thanks to CS i got into knives and i really want the new 4" Recon 1 spearpoint and these mini Recon's and the Secret Edge. When will these be available? Don't understand why some complain of shred pockets? Never had a issue with that, what pants do they wear? silk? thin woman pants? And some sandpaper can help to. And would you ever consider to make limited sprint runs or so, like a recon 1 or lawmen in s30v or VG10?

Recon1 is an absolute brute of a knife. Excited to see this in a more reasonable blade length for those of us who have to put up with ridiculous knife length laws.

Will we be seeing Lynn doing videos like this one to introduce the 2013 products as well. I'm really itching to get a real look at the new products beyond the pictures on your website. I'm especially looking forward to the new Code 4 model. It appears to be the Quintessential EDC knife.

In regards to your locks, I agree completely. The locking system is becoming a seriously overlooked component in quality knives today, and your locking system is the best on the market, hands down. Honestly, if you sold the patent rights to the lock system alone to competing knife makers out there, you could make enough to retire everyone who works for your company.

I own over 200 folding knives all of them high dollar U.S., Japanese and Italian made except for about 8 Cold Steel knives that are made in Taiwan. You know what knife I NEVER leave the house without? My Recon 1 Tanto. I just want to say you guys are doing it right. If you found a factory here in the U.S. to make the Tri-Ad knives for you even at a 20-40 percent higher price point there would be absolutely no reason to ever buy another brand of folder ever. Please make some U.S. made stuff.

This is awesome! Ordered mine today. I love its big brother, but can't always carry him in a "gentlemanly" fashion. Problem now solved!

these look great for edc blade not big not small also cold steel is there any way to make an ideal rock climbing knife with either an enlarged lanyard or some other mean to clip it to a rock climbing Caribiner?

come on you guys, cold steel is an awesome company, not necessarily better than any other companies (Benchmade, Sog, Kershaw ect), but they still have some really cool products, like the recon 1, or ak-47 knife. I think its cool that they are making a smaller version of this knife.

You guys didn't respond to my question about the new Kukri, one what is the differences between the original and the newer model and also why did you get rid of the anodized version?

Lynn, love the knives! But bro you gotta come up with some small fixed blade belt knives for concealment/backup. Some people don't want to trust a folder, and in a high-stress situation people may be able to use a fixed better than fumbling with folders. I'm looking for an all purpose workhorse, small, concealable, handy, comfortable belt knife. The problem with some of the stuff available is the sheaths suck or are too big, knife too heavy (or too light!). Or they don't conceal right etc etc.

ive recently checked out this series and also the regular recons and i agree its worth every cent... just if i can find those cents to buy this knife, i would love to have it for when i walk to the gym at night and anyone gets a bad idea

@TheCandyrod Please fix the clip carry issue, I just got the Voyager L and the clip is terrible. Will the clip problem be fixed in the new recons?

Cold steel may do some funky advertising, but their blades are very good! You cant beat it for the price! I carry spydercos and benchmades, but i seem to feel secure with a cold steel for emergency use. Its just me

@csknives Not sure why knife makers don't make the material right under where the clip touches the g10 a smooth material so the knife can be removed more quickly. Is that a bad idea or something?

When are you guys gonna put a thumb plate on the recons?

I own the mini recon 1 clip point and I was wondering if its considered a legal knife to carry. It is a folder that has a blade under the legal limit but are there any other areas that make this knife illegal to keep on my person?

@csknives you guys make excellent knives but the only imperfection on all your g10 knives is the issue addressed by those 2 fellows above. however i dont think its the pocket clip, its the g10. it is way to rough...if you guys can make the g10 checker less "rough" then all your knives will be perfect =)

i wish you guys would offset the blade sizes between the Voyager and Recon 1 series. I love everything about both knives EXCEPT that I feel 3" is just a bit too small and 4" is just a bit too big. I like 3-1/2" blade folders and I'd buy either the Recon 1 or Voyager in a heartbeat if I could get it in that blade size. That would also help differentiate the two series.

I love everything about the recon series. I just wish I could purchase one without the teflon coating having seen past examples wear quickly leaving ugly marks on the blade.

one thing i dont understand is why on these kinds of knives do they put the clip on the bottom of the grip, and not toads the blad end

@csknives I put in a suggestion. Go to CS forums and see that others have had the same issue and no one thinks loosening the screws is a good idea. MM60 has the best fix. You can take a look at his suggestion on his response to the "clip issue" in General discussions on CS forums. MM60 is 100% correct. Unfortunately I'll need to put in some work to modify the knife, them it will be 100% my favorite. Don;t like modifying a brand new out of the box knife, oh well

I want a recon 1 clip point but may have to settle for the mini. Anyone know if the 4 inch blade is illegal in NY?

this was the perfect knife that i have been waiting for. in fact i was gonna buy 3, one for me, my brother and father as we are all involved in military or LEO. then i saw at the bottom of the page "handles made of faux G-10". really??? why? did you guys run out of G-10?

Its good that you guys changed the pocket clips. Those older ones (american lawman, ak47) create too much of a hot spot, and are too sharp on the jeans.

The recon 1 series are almost perfect, to make it perfect: Better finish (DLC, duracoat, ceracoat) and they are way to expensive here in holland!! €100 that's almost $140!! So I'll just buy a code 4 (tanto) for now

@csknives build another knife for us common people. I'll buy 20 of them. I'm not sure but my guess is that there are more knife buyers that are civilians than active military etc, 2ndary market?. I did Desert Storm myself USMC so I know how it is to be in the field. A different clip isn't an entire new knife design. It's only the mold that produces the clip and if you decided to put some smoother material under where the clip hits the handle that's should be too hard for a company like CS.

I like this alot better than your balls to the wall this knife is indestructible videos, while they are very entertaining, this is much more informative to me.

I am a huge fan of the full size recon 1 clip point blade but i had a mini spear point arrive today in the mini the blade is not 3 inches they are to to small. I hate it i sent it back to the seller.... Very disappointed in the mini recon 1 It reminders me of a key ring knife that one would have on there key ring. With there keys. Way to small even though its meant to be a mini its just to mini as far as i am concerned.It's a real shame because i own two of the full size recon1's
