Yum, 40 year old grease ads to the overall flavor. 😉 It is a testament to Coleman that these stoves can work so well for so long with little to no maintenance. I have restored a number of the old Coleman camp fuel stoves and they all have one thing in common. Their previous owners never cleaned them. Eventually they quit working so they are found in yard sales for a few bucks or abandoned in dumpsters with 40 year old bacon and burger grease burn onto them. Glad to see that, with such little effort on your part, you or someone else will likely get another 40 years out of it. Cheers

Yep you are right, use it abuse it and forget about it! A little elbow grease to clean the grease and get another 40 years out of it. Ironically, I have a newer flat iron stove and it has quit working after 2 seasons... Thanks for watching, and have a blessed day.

You kept saying, let’s fix “it”… But you never said what the problem was…? Had to wait till the end and I guess the problem was you spilled food on the burner, blocking the exhaust vents on the burner…

Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I will try to be more clear in upcoming videos…thanks for pointing out an area to improve it. The “it” was a burner that quit working, diagnosis showed the burner was filthy.

Just watched your video. Thanks. I cleaned the same areas you did but have more corrogated and flats than you. Would that be because of a different model perhaps? Also my reason for looking into maintenance is that after lighting the stove recently, flames shot out of the knobs on the two burners. YIKES! Have you ever seen or heard of this happening? I haven't been able to find anything on the web. Thanks again! I'll continue cleaning parts in the meantime.

Thanks for watching and commenting. First and foremost, I am not an expert in this, I would assume you are correct that the different amounts of corrugated and flats would be due to a different model type. I would also assume that there is some sort of O-ring at the burner knobs...BUT I DO NOT KNOW FOR SURE. I have also never heard of that happening. Good luck with your maintenance, and I hope it solves your issues. If you will please drop a line on what you find wrong, or how you fixed it. Thanks again, and have a blessed day.

@@DunnageGarage I put the burners back together the way I took them out. I also saw a video of someone taking off the knobs and cleaning all that out so I did that as well. They were pretty dirty. Reinstalled those and it seems to be working without shooting flames from the knobs! Thanks again for your help.

I was just given a 2 burner stove that’s identical to yours. The flames are wispy and yellow. Looks like a good cleaning , like you did, is the ticket. I always appreciate free advice. Thanks

Thanks for showing this. My aluminum top is SO GROSS. I see you got yours really clean. I saw in the comments you used dawn, simple green and magic eraser. Sounds like a winning combination. The thing is, it doesn't take long for that aluminum top to get bad. And you can't really clean around it well. It needs some elbow grease. Was wondering if high heat paint that's super glossy like the kind they put on car engines would give it enough slick surface that junk doesn't get stuck in the texture of the aluminum...don't know, but no paint unless it gets as clean as yours. Thanks again.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I wonder if (after it's clean) you cover the aluminum tray with Tinfoil, then when that gets dirty, just throw it away? I'm glad the video was useful, if you haven't please consider subscribing. That simple action really helps the channel.

Well, you are the first person I've seen on RU-vid that has the same exact model as I do. I took mine apart last night, but I couldn't get the cook top nearly as clean as you did. What did you use to clean it with? Thanks for the step by step video?

Thanks for watching and leaving a comment. I would have used a combination of Dawn Dish soap, Simple Green, and a Magic Eraser. A soft bristled brush also helped. If yours is like mine, remember it took 20 years to get that dirty....it will take some time to remove it. Good luck!

You just answered a huge question for me. I've been trying to figure out how to take the entire top plate off, as I want to install an igniter. Thank-you for the info.

So mine turns on but then turns off what could be wrong with it?

My best guess would be a blocked or gloged supply line, or regulator issue? But that is just a guess. Good luck, thanks for watching and commenting.

How would you clean a clogged line
@DunnageGarage
@DunnageGarage 2 года назад
@@megslovesbananas if it were me...I would disassemble it and try to blow through it with low pressure air. But not towards the valves. Again that is me. I am not a stove repair guy and I am always ready to replace if my repair attempt goes sideways 😀
