I went to every Bonnaroo from 2003-2016, and it was interesting watching it morph into what it is now. While Bonnaroo is still special and giving people amazing experiences every year, nothing will ever beat those first few years of the festival when it was just truly a jam fest. No cell service, no connection to the outside world.......when you got there you were no longer on planet earth, you were simply in Bonnaroo. I'm glad I was a part of that.
Well said, didn't hit everyone between there but did about 6 of them.Oysterhead, early Kings of Leon,Bucket of Bernie Brains,Petty,Police,Flaming Lips.....god the bands we saw there early on with so many collaborations. Bonnaroo was a different vibe.
Skerik plays saxophone like nobody else. The 2nd or 3rd time I saw him play in a tiny cramped club space in Seattle around 1990, I was about 5 feet from him as he was doing the screaming, distorted guitar solo for Hendrix "Manic Depression", face turning purple and pulling sounds from his sax that were unimaginable. He was on a higher level even as a youngster.
Saw Floyd's Division Bell live in 94, and King Krimson live in 96. Two of the most important shows of my life. Was 16 years old for Floyd show, friends and I were sold fake acid, and in retrospect I've never been happier to get stuck for $10 on a fake tab of acid in my life, coz I remember everything about the show. Still to this day, the best show I've ever seen in my life, and I've seen ton of shows, including Kraftwerk, TOOL (a bunch of times) and MBV live, Grateful Dead, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard etc... nothing can touch that Pink Floyd's show ;)
"Thela Hun Ginjeet" is a single by the band King Crimson, released in 1981 and on the album Discipline (1981). The song name is an anagram of "heat in the jungle", which is a reference to crime in the city. (The term "heat" is American slang for firearms or for police.)
Yeah it was cool. I was 17 when I went to this very 1st Bonnaroo festival. Had such a great time with good friends. I'm 38 now, with a 11 year old daughter working all the time but still loving life just in different ways lol
Am I wrong to say that during the Primus “break”/hiatus, that it was more of a break between Les and Ler? Think about it, Les was working with every Primus member besides Ler during that period. Bryan Mantia was in Colonel Claypools Bucket Of Bernie Brains, Todd Huth was in the Frog Brigade, Herb Alexander was in the Frog Brigade, Jay Lane was in the Fancy Band and the Frog Brigade. Keep in mind that Ler was the only one who stayed true to Les all these years. Todd left him, Jay left him, Herb left him (3 times). Ler kept the faith!
You can say that. I think Les views Larry as his best friend and they needed the band to stop to salvage the friendship. Les seems like a humble guy that values relationships more than turning a profit. He could’ve easily called the Frog Brigade “Primus” because it had 3 pre existing members (Huth and Lane) of the band in it, but he didn’t...
I don’t know about Les and Ler but I saw Primus in Feb 00 and at the end of the show Ler taped a cymbal w his guitar and Brain grabbed his guitar and threw it across the floor, was not smiling, seemed like a lot of tension.
@@TwinPawsFWWMWow, what a shame that they got to that point. That hiatus was the best thing that they could have done for the band and their musical partnership.
19:44 "traffic wasn't that bad" ....I lived less than 2 hrs from Manchester and it took us 14 hours to get on the farm. The traffic moved so slow folks turned their rides off and just pushed their vehicles when we would occasionally move. The port-a-johns were overflowing by Saturday morning. The heat was relentless. And it was ALL fucking AMAZING!!
@@risksrewardsrelics51 we were starting to get anxious just sitting there...then a wookie went by on a skateboard down the center line of the highway holding a 40oz of Colt .45. We pretty much started the party right there on the hwy after that.
@@doggydog643 yeah, we got out and partied on the highway in our first day of traffic as well! Funny enough, I didn’t even have a ticket. I was an SCI tour kid in those days and we decided to head down and try our luck. When we got closer to the gate, I got out of the car to walk around. Some guy who had stolen a strip of wristbands from the gate slapped one on me and said “have a great show!”
If anyone ever sees live video or audio from frog brigade in Pittsburgh around 2006-2009 let me know. Les yelled at my 13 yr old stoned ass for not chanting during David Makalaster. Used to have bootleg would love to find it
Holy shit. So I watched a movie put out by Les Claypool and the National Lampoon crew called Electric Apricot. I knew it was a parody of Bonnaroo and the jam band scene but I didn't realize that the part in the movie where they ask festival goers what Festeroo was is a direct parody of the intro to this video. That makes this already great song so much better lol
I spent time in Texas State Jail for 8 months, more than county, less than prison. Had a job at the livestock barn where they cared for animals seized or rescued. One of the guards, had to be 50, worked Bonaroo every year. His family was from somewhere close by. He was cool. Brought us bags of Buglers and a lighter or two
Man this was such a hot weekend. les has to be dying in that jacket. I’d seen primus a few times (and the frogs) but Tim had been out of the band for years so it was so exciting to see him. Man this show and whole weekend was fantastic.
@@d3lt452 dude I was genuinely asking, i just thought he meant that he like actually had a part In the arrangement of the festival, basically I’m stupid therefore I asked a stupid question
My little brother and I used to watch the shit out of this on that 5 gallons of diesel dvd or whatever it’s called. I remember being so blown away watching this after only hearing them on those 3 frog brigade records. I was like “holy shit, they’re actually fucking doing it!”. Monsters. All of em.
TO imagine this is what Bonnaroo use to be like back in the day when I actually went to it! So may hippies nad good vibes :) I feel sorry for people who go today haha.
I was 16 and went in 03/04. When I got there this dude KEPT FOLLOWING me for like 1 mile straight saying "Bro, I got EDYS nuggets," I ask my cousin "WTF are Eddies nuggets?" He's like nah man HEADY NUGGETS, it's bomb ass weed." Now I had came from a small town and never seen anything like this indoor grown "cali-miist" so he called it. I proceeded to finally buy some from him. Man, there was drugs EVERYWHERE that year sold in the open. "headies" "shrooms" everywhere. It was the first time I ever took mushrooms too during the Dead set. Me and my best friend just looked at each other and hugged and where like " i love you man." When we went back in 2004 it was nearly ruined by HORRIBLE storms the entire time, and for some reason just didn't have the same magic.
Roo how it was originally done. Just finished high school a week prior. This set was the best way to get weird and loosened up for the freak-in and many epic things to come. Roo 1 as a multi band festival ( not including phish mega happenings) was the best since 69 Woodstock Huge, wild , and free. All things are destroyed by the time it is over.
I went to there record release party at the Warfield theater in San Francisco. Ooos and went to all of there shows in the Bay Area. Including the Stanford frat parties. Still trying to find my brain cells after I jumped out of the window frying on 8 grams of mushrooms
2021 is going to be some of the best shows with new material coming. So many bands gonna let it all hang out Tour 2021!!!!! F U Covid we will beat you by rhymes and beats.
