Community responds to 'senseless' murder of 13-year-old girl at Alderwood mall

Police identified the victim of Wednesday’s shooting at Alderwood mall in Lynnwood as 13-year-old Jayda Woods-Johnson.
Investigators believe Woods-Johnson was an innocent bystander who was shot after a fight between two groups in the mall’s food court escalated to gunfire.
The shooting suspect initially fled the scene before officers arrived, although Lynnwood police said the 16-year-old boy’s mother turned him into authorities late Wednesday night. Police said the boy was being held on suspicion of murder. He may make his first court appearance on Friday.

Suspect is Black and victim is Black, police are lackadaisical about Blacks being murdered which is why homicides in Black communities are alarmingly high, and most cases unsolved. Black suspects understand Black lives don't matter in our judicial system and one can get away with killing a Black person. And hearing that there may be no charge is unconscionable.

He was released on bail, because of greed. If they held him until court date. They don’t get any bond money. So far they have collected $50,000. If he doesn’t show for court, they go after the parents for $500,000. This is disgusting. Where can I protest?

Absolutely. If people knew they would face consequences, they might ask themselves some tough questions before haphazardly creating lives. 1. Am I qualified enough to bring kids into the world? 2. Is the father qualified? 3. Do I have enough time to devote to raising kids? Let alone ones susceptible to violence. 4. Do I have the energy to watch my kid like a hawk? 5. Will I commit to vetting their friends? We cannot control gun inventory in this country. But we can control whether or not to bring kids into the world if we are not equipped to raise them properly.

I’m a liberal and I agree. If you don’t know that your child has a gun, you’re either a bad parent, bad gun owner, or both. Charge the parents because kids may not be afraid of jail, but if mama catches a charge and gets bail, you know that kid is going to be crapping his pants outta fear. Parents have a responsibility to know where their children are and what they are doing and who they are with. And with the technology we all have in our pockets, it’s easier than ever to track your child. There’s no excuse.

As someone who lives 10 minutes away from the mall I'm sickened. I went to her vigil on Sunday and got a shirt with her face and favorite color on it saying rip jayda. I cried a lot and I hope she's in a safer place now RIP Jayda.

I’m a grown woman and I thought she was 27 when they first showed her picture which I believed was HIGHLY inappropriate but also goes to show her parents allowed her to look like a grown azz woman AND go to the mall unchaperoned and was only 13!!!!
