You didn't mention that the PC version has the "XL" mode on certain maps which massively increases the amount of bots on the map to a ridiculous level and due to limitations was not on any of the console versions.
@@aamirrazak3467 It could probably be re-enabled for a modern emulated version of Battlefront 2 on current gen consoles, but the consoles that existed when the game came out would have had performance issues.
I loved this mode! If I remember right it was only on Geonosis, Kashyyyk, and Hoth since those are the biggest maps. But yeah it was 64 vs 64 and utter chaos. Kashyyyk straight up felt like you were storming Normandy.
@@Leonard.L.Church Book almost broken? Just use the repair tool to repair everything ABOUT THE BROKEN SHELF! Pages and all fixed. Science has gone tooo far man
Fun fact, if you went into the ship you normally saw 3 things you could take out: The shields, the Life Support, and Engines. What most players may not have noticed was the 4th, optional, destroyable. The center pillar in the hub actually was the auto-turret controller, meaning if you destroyed it the turrets on the main ship would stop firing (though no on the frigates). Most of my friends never knew that growing up. Also talk about spending 2 hours: using the pilot's repair tool to try and revive the shields from the inside, which turned out to be possible surprisingly.
When I got my PSP back in 2008, Battlefront 2 was the most played game. I will always remember playing it anytime and before sleeping. The game is so atmospheric to me.
Yeah, I also had the PSP version. Had a really confusing series of conversations with someone once, because they had the PC version & I thought he was screwing with me over bringing up a lot of the stuff I didn't have on my copy. Then, he just kept trying to tell me how to unlock it all & we were both just totally lost for the longest time.
@@MrChristianDT lol yeah if you didn't play the console or PC version at the time you would've been lost. The PSP was still a decent way to play. Although I think renegade squadron is better built for it.
I have the ps2 and psp version. I don’t feel like digging out my ps2 to play, so I’m usually content with the PSP nowadays. Playing the PSP version on vita is actually pretty good! It has the same feel as the console versions
How crazy that this game is getting revived by being rereleased with online servers on modern consoles. This is a childhood dream come true as I was too young to play online back in the day!
@@Zivinonly one server is available with large number of players on the steam version. In comparison, When the classic edition drops, they’ll be a whole lot of new servers and players.
I put insane hours into the PS2 version having split screen battles with friends. Kids nowadays will never know the frustration of someone cheesing matches with screen looking. I've played quite a bit on steam too now, I highly recommend the Saga Edition mod pack. It includes all BF1 maps, brand new maps some are massive, cross era battles, new game modes, a total of 9 units per faction now, also textures have been upscaled much more noticably in space
On the other hand, my friends and I only played co-op on PS2, and split-screen was brilliant for that. I'll never quite understand anyone who chooses to play PvP FPS games on the same screen as their opponent... even when you're trying very hard not to cheat you catch glimpses or you hear sniper shots while watching them zap over your shoulder, etc, etc...
The campaign of this game is still burned into my memory. The ambient dialog still makes me chuckle as I remember each and every "For the Republic" "Watch those wrist rockets" and "I'm taking you down, blaster boy". I remember finally finishing the gauntlet that was galactic conquest as the CIS@@lumeronswift
I wish I could try Galactic Conquest against someone. Have some actual strategy and play with someone instead of just easily destroying the AI by myself😂
When I was a teenager I had a solid 3 friends. This was the one game all 4 of us loved and so we would play 4 player split screen on this almost every Friday night (which I’m only just now learning was exclusive to the Xbox version). So many amazing memories with this gem. Also a really small detail that I’ve always loved. If you play on Degobah during the Clone Wars era instead of Luke’s xwing in the swamp you’ll see a republic gunship. Small detail but I always liked that.
On the final day of elementary school for my 5th grade year back in 2006, our teachers let us have a do what you want party to celebrate our graduation from elementary school. We brought sleeping bags, all sorts of sugary food and we watched the Robots (2005) on the good ol giant CRT TV and when we finished it, a friend of mine brought his Xbox with Star Wars battlefront 2. We all had a blast playing Seperatist VS Clones in Galactic Conquest but none of us could beat my friend when he was playing as the Seperatists, curse those Droidekas! Those were the days being young and carefree without a worry in the world.
Well whaddya know, literally watched this video a few hours ago and now we're getting the original 2 Battlefront games released on modern platforms. What great timing!
If you buy the OG Battlefront 2 on the Microsoft store now it comes with the DLC included. I only played it on PS2 back in the day and I played the DLC on Xbox and I was like I really don’t remember these maps then I saw the horrific Asajj Ventress and realized it was DLC
Technically speaking, Elite Squadron IS Battlefront 3, just with lower-end graphics. It features the same story mode and it also features the planned ground-to-space travel.
Speaking of the PSP Version: The PSP got two more Battlefront games. The first one was ok but the second one was revolutionary, it ran on the same engine as Battlefront 2, but it had space and ground maps fused into one, so on the ground you could take a ship like an X-Wing and then either give ground support, or just fly into space to have a big Capital Ship vs Capital Ship battle. You could board it just like in Battlefront 2, except you could destroy the main reactor to blow it up, upon which it would go into a selfdestruct sequence during which you could either head to the hangar to escape, or take an escape pod which would launch you back down onto the ground map where you could see the ship explode from the ground. It was amazing and I really wish they would have made a console version of that, it would have knocked Battlefront 2 out of the park.
I had all three versions but I always felt like the physics and immersion of BF2 was missing from the subsequent releases. Something as simple as a grenade tossing you in the air or a lightsaber strike throwing you back on the ground never happened on the others. The lightsaber wielding heroes felt like they were waving through NPCs (which I guess is what we should expect lightsabers to do, but with no dismemberment in-game and the aforementioned physics missing, it felt shallow). But I still loved space to ground combat and *some* aspects of the customization (i.e. the Dark Trooper armor). Even that was half-baked because of putting random Clone Commander heads on ill-fitting torsos.
@RageUnchained pandemic had nothing to do with the development of those games, it was rebellion so you cant really say its what bf3 would have been considering theyre 2 completely different devs
In this videos defense he did say he was comparing the different versions of battlefront 2 2005 not 2024 remaster of the battlefront 2 2005 so he did what he said he was doing.
Great content as always, Flandrew! Happy to see one of my maps at 11:50, even if only for a second :) By the way, if you haven't tried the mods available for the Xbox, PSP, and PS2 versions of the game, I do recommend! (though I am a little biased). Splitscreen modded content is a real treat.
I wish I could try Galactic Conquest against someone. Have some actual strategy and play with someone instead of just easily destroying the AI by myself😂
So many great memories with my friends on Xbox OG playing at 4 splitscreen coop or versus etc. Galactic Conquest was so much fun. I remember the PSP version being not well received by the press back then, but I was still impressed personally to have Battlefront 2 in your pocket. Great time. If only they could have released the original BF3 :( One of the best SW games, even if I think that BF1 is as good if not better in some aspects. Small note on the Xbox version: BF1 and BF2 are available on Xbox One and Xbox series for purchase, and BF2 Contains ALL the DLCs (they patched it a couple of years ago)! So enjoy the 4k and dlcs :) Fun fact: Luke Xwing in the swamp of Dagobah change to a clone LAAT if you play during the clone wars area.
I wish I could try Galactic Conquest against someone. Have some actual strategy and play with someone instead of just easily destroying the AI by myself😂
@@FATE522Geetsley made a video a long ass time ago that made a meme that that dude sucks ass. Honestly idk why, maybe because he had multiple wives? I don't remember lol
Loved this game, mostly played on ps2 and it just felt bigger than anything i’d played before. Was amazed by the psp port but so disappointed the campaign was cut
Was really stellar to play, both now and back-in-the-day, and I appreciate it all-the-more now that you've told me about the tight release window. I spent so many hours on the PS2 version, and I was ecstatic when I found it for PC; the sheer variety of mods, maps and add-ons for the game has allowed it to live a long life. Same can be said for other games if the era, KotOR, EaW, Jedi Knight series etc. Lucasgame pretty much defined my love of Star Wars, and the hard-working community who released excellent additional content really helped to cement it.
Fun fact! The non-campaign version of the Hoth map still had the extra hangar with the Falcon on it. If you hop in a Snowspeeder and fly in that direction you can get past the soft kill barrier and mess around in the spot where the Hoth Hunt/campaign takes place.
if you're checking out mods for BF2 then I do recommend the Saga Edition mod on ModDB. it does a lot like instant action AI hero's, more planets in galactic conquest and you can also make the AI much harder in the game, it also adds several maps from Star Wars battlefront 1. and also, some units can change depending on which map is pick and more hero's to play in both eras like starkiller. certain worlds are also randomized in Galactic conquest so that means that if you where to attack Naboo and then the AI attacks it later, the map might be either theed night or Naboo plains. and the best part about the mod is that its in its own folder separate from the main game, meaning it does not do anything to the vanilla game at all. the mod also uses much better models as well and different variants of clones depending what map is picked.
I've been looking forward to this! (count dooku voice) Thanks a lot for making a video on this amazing game flandrew! One of my favorite games ever, I had so many great memories playing it as a kid!
I wish I could try Galactic Conquest against someone. Have some actual strategy and play with someone instead of just easily destroying the AI by myself😂
I never played Battlefront 2 but my buddy loved this game. He would play it on his PSP during our breaks in high school...almost 2 decades ago. I'm old.
I actually grew up playing a demo of battlefront 2 from an xbox demo disc. All you could do was take part on a dog fight above coruscant or fight as a clone on utapau, both of which were timed. You could play as obi wan on utapau once you took over two command posts, but his play time was limited as his lightsaber meter would gradually decrease, and once it ran out you were back to playing as a clone.
I did have Battlefront II for the PS2 as one of the first games we had for the system, but I never played it because I was too young at the time and didn't appreciate Star Wars yet like I do now. I also had the newer Battlefront II for the PS4, but from watching this video, the original looks like it was a lot more fun and unique. It kind of makes me wish that we had gotten a Battlefront III as a sequel to the original II. I mean, with all the Star Wars content that came out in the past DECADE, we could have had stuff from the sequel trilogy, Rogue One, the Clone Wars and Rebels TV series, The Mandalorian, etc. Also, you should do videos on the handheld spinoffs Renegade Squadron and Elite Squadron, as well as the X-Men Legends (the first of which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year) and Marvel: Ultimate Alliance games!
I remember getting this game when I was a kid. I was at Taekwondo practice at the age of around 12 I think, and I had bought Battlefront 2 for PS2 with my birthday money before practice, which made me think of just the game, as I knew my dad was holding onto it while he was watching me and my sisters practice. I also farted when we had to do stretching and sit with our legs in a crossed-like position.. I pointed at my sister and blamed it on her, but she was on the other side of the studio.. so that didn't go too well. I couldn't get my head straight since I was so psyched to play it.. :P That felt like my longest training session ever which just lasted an hour .. Good times.. I miss that feeling of going into a Gamestop / EB Games or going to the preview booths etc.. Almost 30 and none of this exists..
I used to spend hours just launching myself off the kamino platforms with thermal detonators. My brother and I would see who could launch ourselves the farthest. Lots of fun to be had doing dumb things in this game.
I played the hell out of this game as a kid on my family's old Desktop running Windows XP. I still have the DVD for the game, but now I play the Steam Version
The best thing about playing the PC version are the graphic update mods. Galactic Civil War hits different with different Rebel alien species and shiny reflective death star floors.
As we're on the topic of the good old battlefront 2 (which is very close to my heart) I will tell a little story about how I've got my hands on my copy of it too and why it's so close to me. It's actually pretty funny because my first contact with the battlefront 2 (or anything star wars related) was almost 20y ago when my cousin came to visit us (he lives abroad so we saw each other 2 times a year at best) and he brought his PSP with few games (including the battlefront 2 version on it) I've played in all of them but the one that got me really into it was the star wars battlefront 2 one, it in fact got me so much into it that I took all my savings and went with my parents to a shop so they could buy me an PSP just so I could play it myself too. Now after 20y I still come back to that PSP version of the game that suck me in this universe so much that I'm a big star wars fan till this day. I'm still amazed how they were able to make it run and look so good (back in the day) on such small device. I've got later the pc version too and even tho I really liked it (especially when you put some mods in it) the PSP version kept (and still keeps) a warm spot in my heart for all the nights I've wasted on playing in the conquest mode just to conquer the galaxy before going to sleep or to make the one man stand when I was the last one alive and the enemy still had 50 reinforcements left.
Been waiting for this video since for weeks!!! Great video! I had a Gamecube back then, and used to go to a friends house to play just Battlefront 2 in his PS2. As soon as I got my first personnal computer this was the first game I installed. Good memories.
Somehow I preferred BF I over II. It looked more pleasing to look at. Like there was a filter that made everything look smoother. II had more edges graphically and less vibrant colors. Also I couldn't care less about heroes. I liked to play the common soldier and got quickly annoyed in II when either the AI or another player attacked me with a hero/villian.
The AI will only attack you with a hero or villain in Hero Assault in the vanilla version. And the graphics of the second game is much better especially if you set it right.
Ah yes. My favorite SW game of all time... The amount of content for both MP and SP is great and the PC version definitely has one of the greatest modding communities. It would be great if you covered some mods in the future.
The PSP version had a control option that let you use the stick for aim and face buttons for movement. That tiny control nub still wasn't ideal, and it meant aiming with my left hand, but still felt better then the default.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 was my favorite game ever as a kid, I would play it for hours and hours! Still one of my favorite games of all time! Great video! I did not know the Xbox version was the best one, that’s the one I’ve been playing for years!
I had this game on both PS2 and PSP when I was a senior in high school, and it's seriously one of the best Star Wars games ever made. I have many fond memories of playing this until 2am when I had to be up by 6.
Still my personal favorite Star Wars game and just video game in general of all time. I still play it at least 2-3 times a week when I just wanna relax and have some casual game time to unwind and when my brother comes to visit, this is our go to game to relive memories of when we were kids. Still holds up well to this day.
I've been waiting for this video man this exciting im waiting to watch this on the big screen later im sure its awesome you Make good stuff man. Battlefront 2 is just the tops. It doesn't get much better.
This was a fun game for me growing up. I Had the ps2 version. My sister and I loved playing the Hero Assault on Mos Eisley. She mainly played as Luke and Ayla Secula and I played as the rest of the Heroes. We mainly played on the Heroes side. I also loved playing the space assault mode but I mainly played that mode alone. Rise of the empire was also a pretty good campaign.
used to have it on PS2 back in the day. i remember my first time doing the Kashyyyk stage, i picked a sniper, positioned on one of the dock balconies, and singlehandedly took out nearly every threat that wasn't a vehicle. end results showed my score versus the cpu allies, and i was the leader by a mile
I remember playing galactic conquest with my friend on his PS2. Years later I got the game on PC and have pretty much only played that mode. Still amazing even in 2024.
I LOVED this game. Was the first game I ever played online, used to play this all the time whenever I had free time away from school. Got so good at it, was part of one of the top pc clans, clan wars on this game were so much fun. I don't care about being the best at games, but I'm glad I was good at this because it gave me so many memories, the competitive community in this game was awesome.
I easily spent the most time playing this game as a teen. Hundreds of hours but surprisingly, I can’t play this game anymore without getting bored. Even with all the amazing mods on pc and some cool ones on the PSP that was recently made. I just can’t play this game for more then 5 minutes
I had the PSP version back in the day, and playing the PC version on the Steam Deck now brings back nostalgic feelings but with a sort of "new coat of paint" feel because of how much better it is.
Excellent vid- covers almost everything. The only things you missed were the XL mode on PC, and the PS2 version having a much reduced draw distance compared to the others
And that psp and xbox version had ai heroes and villains and something like advanced ai. Ps2 and pc bots feels to be so stubid after playing psp or xbox version😅
The DLC heroes were advertising the 2003 series of the animated clone wars show. Though mon calamari was cut from the game so it makes no sense for kit fisto to appear like that. Maybe the mon cala map was that far along but cut at the last second. Since there are no underwater levels in SWBF 2 and kit fitso goes for a swim looking like that in the animated show. They were also modded into a few maps over the years. Its also interesting how the PSP version of all things is the only one that does clones vs empire in the form of "rogue assassin".
Despite the Star Wars games not being my nostalgia act (except maybe Jedi Power Battle), I do like your vids and how you blend serious reviews/comparisons, then a good joke that cracks me
My little brother and I spent a lot of time with the space battles, Galactic conquest and instant action on PS2. Last year I got the original xbox version for a decent price from a local Disc Replay. Still one of the best Star Wars games ever, although I was slightly sad they removed Starfighters from the ground maps. I do understand why they did that though given the limited airspace. It is also insane how much modded content has come out as well.
I am only a console player but Battlefront 2 is the one game I play on PC. It's old enough that my laptop can run it, but there's SO many mods it basically makes a whole new game!
Growing up, my parents would restrict our gameplay to two hours on weekends, summer, and holidays when school wasn't happening. My sister and I used this game and other games that had a co-op mode as a way around this rule. We'd play a total of four hours any chance we had. We absolutely breezed through the main campaign and during Galactic Conquest, we'd have foolproof strategies. For land battles, I always went after command posts while she would either snipe enemies from above or take out turrets or other types of big machinery. For space battles, I would dismantle the enemy ship from the inside while she destroyed parts on the outside. We always had so much fun. Every now and again, I'll pop in our PS2 copy and do some Instant Action for old times sake.
Just started playing Battlefront II on the PC some time ago and man was it good. It's pretty good for a game that came out in 2005, even more so than the 2017 one. And if you're wondering about the mods, there's a lot of them. Here's some I would recommend: > Anakin's Patch (Recommended) - Also known as Battlefront Remastered. It's a patch that allows you to play all of the mods in the game. Also adds a neat Anakin's Console feature you can access in the pause menu during gameplay. It's more or less a cheat console for the PC. > XBox Content DLC for PC - Adds in every DLC map and hero from the Xbox port of the game. > Star Wars Battlefront III Legacy - A large-scale conversion mod that pretty much turns the game into the cancelled Battlefront III game. This adds in many of the mechanics planned for the game and even includes assets recovered from the files of the cancelled game. > Battlefront 1035 - A mod inspired by the 2017 Battlefront II game. Adds in many units exclusive to the game, including Clone Commandos with their repulson blast ability. > Swag Swag Senate (Modder) - Not really a mod, but one of the best mod creators on the website. Makes a lot of cool mods for the game, from the Stick War mod to a Worms 4 Mayhem inspired mod.
The 2005 Battlefront is my favourite installment in the series. The story mode, the gameplay mechanics, the amazing maps, and the space battle mode made this an instant hit. No other Battlefront could replicate the atmosphere. However, the contractors modders are amazing and managed to replicate the OG Battlefront feeling in VR. Anyway, great video haha.
Yes, I still quote, "now hear this". I grew up with the ps2 verison, but my friend had the xbox verison. Star wars bf3 was retooled into one of the psp games, so the storys are the same. That being said, the game was like 90% done, so there is a modding team making battlefront 3 as a mod on bf2 on pc.
