January 8, 1989 near the village of Kegworth, Leicestershire. British Midland Airways (BMA) Boeing 737-4Y0 was on scheduled flight BD 092 from London to Belfast, but 13 minutes after take-off, its # 1 engine (compressor blade separation) failed, accompanied by severe vibration. In this situation, the crew mistakenly turned off engine No. 2, after which they decided to make an emergency landing at the East Midlands airport in Leicestershire, but during the landing approach, engine No. 1 stopped, and attempts to start engine No. 2 were unsuccessful, and as a result, the liner hit a highway forest belt M1, then crashed into the embankment of the East Midlands Airport and collapsed.
