@@u.v.s.5583 Clairvoyant is heavily underrated in my opinion. Definitely not as musically forward but the motifs carry it along with the emotion behind the story of the concept album. Definitely a different experience
You absolutely need to check out Flourish by The Contortionist! Such a heavy yet beautiful song. Was my first introduction to them and still one of my favorite songs
Glad you checked them out! This is my favorite band and album. The ideas of the lyrics and the way they are portrayed musically are beautiful. It was interesting listening to you talk about it (sitting on the backbeat vs pushing the momentum) and how it might pertain the expression of the lyrics. Definitely recommend listening to Language 1 & 2 in sequence! Peace.
The Contortionist are great, cool to see you liked the song. I'd highly recommend you check out more from them. And I gotta say the obligatory "This is a concept album, so you should listen to the whole thing". But yeah it is, and it really is amazing. They are also so tight live as well and their singer is just godlike. Their old stuff was more technical death/metalcore I guess, which still sounded unique even back then. These days they've shifted into a more chill progressive metal/rock style and I'm diggin it aswell. I think another band you'd appreciate are Uneven Structure as I mentioned in a previous comment. Their video for Frost/Hail is one of my favorite music videos of all time. It was directed by their guitarist and fits the song perfectly. So I hope you can get to it sometime.
The controtionist always slaps! Though I do enjoy their older harsher style. Interesting that you would note how it sticks in a single pocket in the start, I never really noticed that.
Glad you like them :) check their first few releases to hear where their metal stylings have come from! Despite their changes I still enjoy the spectrum of their work :D Keep up the good work sir!
These guys are absolute genius at conveying emotions in their songs. I would suggest you react to Wilderun - The Unimaginable Zero Summer. This song is the intro song for Veil of Imagination, THE metal album of the decade for me, personally.
The Contortionist are masters of tactfully written songs. The build up always leads somewhere. Just might have to wait till later in the album for it to be realized
pleeeaase check out the rest of this album. my number 1 all time. super intricate but it WORKS so well. i highly recommend this record especially and the following one clairvoyant.
The contortionist - flourish. Off debut sounds so different. One of my favourite songs ever. Also check out: Last chance to reason - Upload complete, they have to same vocalist, crazy band.
3 years later and you still haven't listened to the second half of this song! Language II is an important sequel to Language I and frankly, each are incomplete without the other.
Hay man I'm a new subscriber here, I was hoping you would react to The between the buried and me. The song from them is extremophile elite. The live studio version. I also love the contortionist too. If you want to check another song from the check out THRIVE it's off the same album that language is on. Thanks man
High-quality stuff, but I have to admit my personal taste runs to something with more punch. The tapping guitar bit did catch my attention though. I have a recommendation that I think will fit the bill. It's metal but also melodic and progressive - BORKNAGAR - Winter Thrice.
Well Nightwish - Noise is probably trending? The song is pretty good and the video is entertaining, but Nightwish has a ton of more interesting songs though. Yours Is An Empty Hope would be my top pick. For something completely different...if you're not familiar with Diablo Swing Orchestra, try Honey Trap Aftermath, though practically anything from Pandora's Pinata album would be great.
Hey there super weird request that isnt rock or pop or metal. Can you react to Samuel barber's agnus dei any group singing it is fine but I prefer a group with castratos. Also on the metal side of things check out opeth real neat group that does a metal blues and jazz kind of thing. Id check out Hessian peel
Unfortunately you didn't get language 2. It's a set song 1 an 2. Though if you're into instrumental stuff you should definitely react to Arch Echo - Color Wheel.
Last chance to reason. Uuhhhmmm how about starting with a song called the artist, or the escapist or maybe the dictator. Depends how wild you're feeling. It's the band the vocalist was in before joining the contortionist
The Bassist is Jordan Eberhardt. This is nothing, go listen to The Olive Tree/Narrow Salient by Scale the Summit (another great band, the one that opened my eyes to instrumental metal, where skill takes the forefront.) He made his name in the metal world with them, as well as some other legendary musicians.
And here we see Mike Lessard ruining another band... Well, before he ruined it in this case. First album he appeared on with Last Chance to Reason was amazing... Next album, incredibly boring... Mostly due to Lessard's boring vocals. Language... Incredible album. Clairvoyant... Boring as shit thanks to Lessard. He's an incredible talent but he's so fucking predictable.
Last Chance to Reason sounds so familiar but I couldn't place it. I had to look it up and I think I know them because they released this weird interactive promotional thing for their second album. Now I gotta track this thing down and see if it's what I'm thinking of.
@@CriticalReactions yeah Level 2 is a sick album. It had a video game tie in made for the song "Upload Complete" That's probably what you're thinking of
Cant agree with lessard being boring. But I can see it. Loved what he did with last chance to reason. Level 2 and 3 are much better albums that 1 in my opinion. The use of Schoenberg's 12 note theory is phenomenal
