Too late now, but next time buy local - even if "local" is a 1 hour drive each way. Look at what that would have saved you this time. Ask friends in the area if they can recommend a place, or if they know someone knowledgeable enough to know where a good computer store is. FWIW, I save boxes for a year or so because I've been burned before. Toss it in the basement or the rafters in the garage. Sharpie the date you can toss it on the outside, leave the packing material in it. Have you sent a link to this to them? Remind them there will be an update once the system comes back.

Sam, I recently bought a Mac Studio computer that is about 8 by 8 by 4 inches. It came in a box about 4 times its size, but still a lot smaller than yours. It did not have all the expanding foam on the inside. I guess SF wants to make sure there is no damage in shipment, but too bad they sent a bad computer. Let us know the outcome and let us know if you will ever buy another SF computer.

I feel for you. This, by the way, is why I always try to buy local. You can talk face to face with the person that built your unit. And in my opinion you got taken. I'm in a small Alberta,Canada town and have a choice of two computer stores. What you got would be about $3,500.oo CDN and I can drive it to the store for them to fix. For an extra $50.oo they would have set it up. Good luck and I have been missing your vids. You're an amazing lady!

I was replacing my laptop every 3-4 years when I was using brands like HP, Toshiba, and Sony. Made the decision to buy a DEL even though I though they looked basic and boring! 7 years later it still just switches on and does its thing without any hassle. Don't think I'll buy any other brand now, thats if I ever need to replace this one!

Probably a loose connector or a loose or broken hardware issue and this probably happened during shipping, if I were to guess. I order the individual parts then build the pc myself because shipping on pre-builds is terrible something is ether broken or it doesn't work out of the box. If you are spending that kinda money then in the future try to do it locally, it's easier for returns and most brick and mortar places have in-house Techs to help with any issues.

Some day we need a new home for our computer needs: bigger desks, extra ventilation with super clean air, moisture free, then a guest room for technicians to standby for first few days/weeks for setup and technical assistance, little magazine room for shipping package/insulation. And then we go broke and have to sell the new/altered home due to constant issues without gaining money due to big loss of time. Brave new computer world.

starforge was one of the hopeful better up and coming top-tier Si's, some of there builders came from the now bankrupt "artisan builds" company. except when reviewed by gn , SF didnt know how to tighten screws, or take peels off of ssd heat sinks, they had to introduce additional training after the review to have them check for it. pretty much never buy from ANY SI. you will always get fleeced. what did you even get for 6k? you could have build 2 uper-middle end gaming pc's with scalped gpu's for that.

Except that unless one is very knowledgeable, even physically assembling such, knowing what little brackets and hold downs are needed to assemble a box/pwr supply/MB/memory/add ons for sound/video/wifi/SSD and then facing the need to download and install all the drivers/operating system and the desired software. For the cognoscenti this can take a week which includes 12-24 hours for software install and integration. Debugging such is not for the faint of heart.

With the shipping channels the computer has gone through being bounced around in shipping and handling, you could check the connections and make sure the memory cards are seated properly. As long as you use a grounding strap and don't touch any circuitry.
@byrd3242
@byrd3242 6 месяцев назад
Not likely going to happen for someone not tech savvy, it sounded like an issue with the system from shipping. Sadly this is extremely common with the prebuilt companies starforge, origin etc. It just sucks because most of the troubleshooting is well above the skill level of these companies main clientele and they are stingy with doing the right thing and just replacing the system because it hurts their bottom dollar.
@commonsenserules7995
@commonsenserules7995 6 месяцев назад
@@byrd3242 From the minimal research of the company, the business seems to have had a quality control problem. It didn't take long for that issue to surface in the search. Typically, there should be ae least a 24 hour burnin period and testing before shipment. Samantha shouldn't have had to go through the frustration.
@byrd3242
@byrd3242 6 месяцев назад
@@commonsenserules7995 a burnin period wouldn't have done anything for damage from shipment. And the yellow QC sticker on the side of the case is their "proof" that it worked before shipment, they do that so they can rule out components being dead before shipment which is rather common for pc components. Obviously.....spending that kind of money on a pre-built system should have entailed a frustration free experience exactly what I alluded to that these companies are stingy with doing the right thing. This is exactly the kind of nonsense to why I don't recommend these companies they're great for high end systems for people who don't want to or aren't comfortable building their own systems but when things go wrong they are terrible at customer service.

Have my system on floor (wood panels) for 11 years (new parts inside last year) and it is clean. All fans have filters on intake (Fractal Desing Define case), once a month i clean them, that is all. @@pofjiosgjsoges Reminds me of an episode ~1995 or so when I perceived a need to copy a 5.25" floppy to 3.5" and all my machines were 3.5, but the hospital I worked at still had machines with both disc drives in them. So plugged the discs in and typed copy and when done pulled them out and both discs had a huge amount of dust bunnies all over them. Had to toss both discs. Drives were unusable as the computers sat there running 24/7 for years sucking in slightly dusty air through the drive slots and were packed with dust and no one in the hospital ever had a need to use the disc drives.

I'm not exactly sure about the exact components but just for fun I did a build at a webshop here in Germany with the top-end Ryzen 9 7950X3D, a B650 board (not the highest end X670E), big air cooler (Noctua NH-D15S), Fractal Chassis, 1000W Gold PSU (Seasonic Prime), 64 Gigs of RAM, a RTX 4090, two 2TB 990 Pro SSDs, Windows 11 Pro Licence and as peripherals Logitech MX Keys Keyboard with MX Master Mouse and a 28" Iiyama 4K IPS screen, including the assembly for around 200 bucks that in complete would cost me around 4600€/5000$ (including taxes and German sales tax is at 19%), 6k seems to be a ripoff. And yes video editing needs a lot of performance but IMHO you mustn't buy the most bada*s high-end components, do some cutbacks: Why a RTX 4090 for around 2000 bucks if a 4080 even 4070 or AMD RX 7900 XT[X] would also do the job good enough for much less bucks (and more bang for the bucks)? The CPU, of course the top-end i9/Ryzen 9 will give you a big grin, but wouldn't a Ryzen 7900[X] or i7 14700 with some cores less (but still with a whole lot) also do a good job and you also save a couple of bucks? A mid-tier mainboard between 200 to 400 bucks also works great you don't need to get the top-end ones for 500 bucks and far above that (some have models for over a thousand bucks). And especially on computer parts the price decline is so hefty because these outdate pretty fast, the prices really plummet when a new generation of CPUs and GPUs comes out, you can see it on graphics cards like the RTX 2080 Ti, it came out in late 2018, so roughly five years ago and these retailed for at least 1100€ and more - I just took a look at ebay and okay, these are used prices but they nowadays sell for around 260-400 bucks, so in just five years they've lost a whopping ~75%! That was really not a good deal, but I don't blame you - I guess a lot of PC self-builders fell for some OEM machines or prebuilt systems in their past and also did some bad deals into products that were a disappointment and not worth the money but we've learnt from that, about a year ago in early January of 2023 I sold off my "old" PC (most components were around 4 years old at that time, but I had built a much higher-performance system since that and this as my secondary was mostly standing around so I decided to sell it) to a couple and they told me it's for their son, they gifted him one for christmas but seemingly fell for a sketchy, almost scammy seller and got disappointed, so they sent it back and bought mine instead - had no complains since I've sold it, I even visited them a few weeks later because they asked for a monitor and I hadn't had one for sale at the time but a broken 24 inch 1080p TV with a broken PSU I just was waiting for spare parts, then replaced them and it works again, then brought it to them. So don't throw to much money into high-end computer stuff next time, better save some by limiting you budget and especially take a look a buyer's guides for example do a limit of like 2000$ and then search for "best 2000$ PC" on RU-vid and you'll find a bunch of videos with such build ideas just watch out that they're only a few months/less than a year old so that they aren't outdated, seemingly you'll also find a lot of help on reddit's r/buildapc and forums like PCGamer or Tom's Hardware.

Hi Sam! If the computer sometimes starts and sometimes does not, it is possible that the computer is not faulty and the monitor is not faulty. This error can occur if both devices are over-conserving power (which is beyond the user's control). In this case, if the computer does not detect the monitor within a few seconds of powering on, or the monitor does not detect the computer, then the computer will not produce an image and the monitor will not display anything, and the user will think that the computer is not working. A similar error can occur if the computer has more than one video output and the monitor has more than one video input. You can improve the situation by connecting the two devices with a Display Port cable (instead of an HDMI cable), as newer devices usually have a Display Port connector as well. I agree with the service department that if such an error occurs, the monitor may be the cause of the apparent error in the first place. I wrote all this based on my own experience, it took me a while to understand what the problem might be, in my case using the Display Port cable cleared the fault.

Some systems act the way you are describing . Be sure the computer processor chip is pushed down and set firmly into the processor . So I would recommend a NAS (network attached storage) system for redundant storage of your data. Could also be something cloud related. My point is that a redundant storage option. will save you a lot of headaches when the computer desires to go bang and whipe the whole system. or just a HD failure . A terabyte portable storage to download videos to redundantly. As a side note make sure to out this company to us all so we can spread the word to not deal with this company if they give you more trouble. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. in the meantime the laptop should be memory upgradeable to 32 bit for not too much.

I had issues using hdmi cables before ( I also got 30+yrs in electronics) due to a packaging. It's so easy for a shipment to form a static electricity potential while handling, so first thing users do it just to plug everything in like they used to do but, best way is to equalize potentials first, before using hdmi connections, by shortcutting metal parts of units you are trying to hook up, basically to ground up all together using a piece of copper wire to discharge to same electric potential. It takes only few seconds. Just don't put wire into sockets of any kind, just lean it to exposed parts of a monitor (socket screws for ex.) and PC frame. Your system might suffered same issue while hooking it all together so I hope this advice will help you with new one. Btw, best and safest connections in terms of static are galvanic separated like optical cable but it's not widely available and has some hardware issues as well. HDMI cables are flawed by design.

Dont put cabinet on a carpet,fans will suck up fibers that coat boards and fans causing overheating, elevate cabinet on small platform least 6''. even if you have to buy additional box fan for ventilation ($20.) do it, most computer have a way to see the internal temps of the cabinet --find out how to do that.

I had a desktop that needed to go back and they sent me a new one first and I then put the damaged one back in the box and sent it back. I just had to have my credit card leave a deposit until they received the damaged one back.

I suggest that you invoice the computer company for loss of business due to their sale of a malfunctioning computer. $500 a day is not unreasonable

One of the side effects of the past 4 yrs is that shipping costs are WAY up. Even for bulk shippers cost is up, for individuals it is stunning. I had a sinking feeling when you tore both boxes apart as I have always kept the shipping and packing boxes, but I have a small storage attic for this. Never had a major computer glitch except once in 5 generations of computers past 35 yrs. Had a Dell fail and eventually they sent a tech to the house (no charge!) and finally sent a free box to return the computer for a replacement, about 15 yrs ago, a different era, a US company. Although Starforge is a US based company, the original packing box you opened has Lian Li on the outside, making one wonder how much US input there is in the device.

There are two things you need to understand about electronic products particularly a PC. The first is never ever throw out the shipping box and packing until you KNOW it is going to work reliably. In your case I would probably have hung onto the packaging for about a year (if it had a two year warranty). The second is that, in spite of what anybody/everybody tells you there is probably a 5-20% failure rate within the first 3 months and of this failure rate a good percentage of that will be intermittent failures - which you appear to have. In fact the worst PC problems to fix are the intermittent failures with the worst type being ones that only fail perhaps monthly.

What a dilemma ! I have been in computers from the beginning , started out with PC s and when I started a business was frustrated to the max when trying to just get it to print labels. I then bought a Mac and found out that that is the only way to go. Go to a Mac dealer and talk to them.

Too late now, but next time make sure every plug is seated properly. Sometimes those modular "Scary mess of cables in the bag" could easily not be plugged in properly. Understanding the power supply was modular. No other Specs of the PC was given. The video card uses one of those cables for power. The Monitor not turning on with the PC could mean that it was not left on standby. Or the monitor cable could be loose. Don't know the exact specs of the PC other then 64GB of RAM so don't know if the power supply was adequate for anything else. $5k for a PC better be top of the line.
@Paulprhansongmailcom
@Paulprhansongmailcom 6 месяцев назад
Another idea came to mind, it's possible a video card may have jarred loose during shipping, taking it out and installing again, that may get the pins connected again. The same with the cables, unplug and plug back in. The trouble is it could have been anything simple.

I have thier premium computers and when they go south.............they are gone.At the end of it all I had to update two computers, a mac pro desktop and a mac mini. Today was hopefully my last trip to the apple store for support, the gal thier figured out the problems, Yah!!! countless hours on the phone support and miles of driving back and forth to the apple store, & trips at 100 kilometers each. I feel your pain!

@@samanthaweber6932 Can confirm. I do 4k here and 32GB is the minimum I need and running a medium spec current graphics card. Serious advice. Find a nerd, feed him lunch. Someone who is naturally into computer building and repairing, might not actually do that as a job but has played with them for many years as a hobby. I'd offer but wrong country. The issue you have does sound like it would be best to have someone hands on looking at it. I can't say to not trust the company as I know nothing about them but they don't seem to be in a helpful mood to say the least. For what it's worth, I'd expect 5 years from a new PC before hardware failure is more likely. BUT... that doesn't take into account any software issues which will be on you to navigate yourself. Such as Windows upgrade fails or bad drivers. So again, find a local nerd. (From someone who grew up in the 80s and built many PCs from spare parts in teen years.)
