You take a old crappy truck overloaded pulling a crappy old trailer. Putting everyone else on the road at danger. On a busy city express way making it even more dangerous for everyone. Then say you are loosing faith in humanity when the piece of crap breaks down in the middle of the expressway. I feel you were much more at fault than everyone else.

Brings back memories of an epic trip when I was in my teens. We were hauling two van convoy of horse vans fully loaded with 6 horses apiece, about 20,000 lbs in each van, when the tranny failed in one of them. We were fortunate to coast into a median cop turnaround on I 684 just before the intersection with I 287, a huge intersection near White Plains NY. We shuttled one of the cars in our caravan to the local Sears to get some tools to try to get it operable, praying we could get it running before the tranquilizers ran out on one of the horses in the back. Managed to get it running on half of the gears, but we didn’t have low gear, which meant we couldn’t stop at the bottom of a hill because we wouldn’t have gearing to get up the hill without stalling out. Finally got to PA about 6 hours late.

There's something about going on road trips to pick up cheap excavators. I drove 4 hours here in the UK on a similar quest and was dogged by intermittent overheating on my Landrover Defender. I made it home in the end complete with the load, but had many stops to let it cool down and top up with water. Well done for staying calm Sam, that was a pretty scary situation being dead in a live traffic lane. Glad you made it home safely.

I'm betting the carb vapor locked due to heat from the heavy tow. Once it sat for a long time and cooled off, adding the gas to the carb enabled it to fire again. It's not an adventure until something goes wrong! Oh, and Falcon owes you dinner and a day at the spa.

I bought a 1975 F250 to haul the largest Uhaul enclosed moving trailer with a houseful of furniture & appliances from BC to NS, Canada, about 2800 miles. The Ford never even burped, but further to Falcon's comment about fuel mileage I averaged 8 MPG and could actually see the gas needle moving as I drove. A great video adventure, Sam ! 👍👍👍

Sam, this whole thing screamed sketchy from the get go. Bad decisions all over. Not sure your attraction to this character. I appreciate that he’s trying to get his start, and seems like a decent guy, but he’s picking up junk, with junk, attempting to use a clearly inadequate trailer, breaks it. Managed to get it loaded, then his sketchy truck dies and he doesn’t even make it to the shoulder but lets it die in the center lane. Then he GETS OUT in the middle of a freeway. SAMANTHA, you’re a smart girl, and sim sure you like this guy, but WHO NEEDS THIS?? Dispatcher tells you to not exit the truck. He does anyway. No sense. Stsnding in the middle of multiple lanes of speeding traffic, no shirt looking like he hasn’t bathed in 9 months. You could have been killed it’ll severely injured. You knew enough to call 911 but not sure he did. It’s your life, but you’re with WAY more than this. Chalk it up to a good story but don’t go on any of his again. Car mechanics in the center lane of a NJ freeway is not the way to go. Nothing remotely worth dying over. Sketchy can be a nice challenge, but this was nuts.

should have picked up some old tires to drive on but you got it loaded anyway! I had a newer F-150 crap out like that on me when the fuel pump relay melted at a red light and had people backed up for a mile. Luckily I had a can of brake clean and a guy willing to stand on the bumper spraying it into the intake long enough to get it off the road :)

WOW! That was a very dangerous situation, that was the worst possible place to have the truck stop running. Being stopped under that overpass you were in a dark area , people coming in from the bright light had difficulty seeing you stopped there. It certainly is a miracle that you was not hit. That could have been a major catastrophe.. I would be interested in what the trucks gas gauge was reading , I ask that because I had 2 Fords like that one and both would run out of Gasoline at 1/4 of a tank. They had a gauge problem in those years. I am glad that you got back safe! Smart move Sam to have stayed inside the truck while it was broke down!

I bought a Takeuchi with a locked up final drive. When I got it home, the drive was bone dry, and a few of the teeth had come off the gears, and ended up in the bottom locking it up. I got all of that out, it turned, so I filled it up with 90wt, and used it for several years before selling it.

The fact it's a truck towing weight its not rated for, on a trailer not rated for it, with ratchet straps not rated for it. If someone got hurt, he would be sued into another dimension. Chains and binders, and a better trailer rated for the weight are mandatory for Falcon if he wants to stay in business.

Ah what it is to be young. Most things done on a shoe strap and hope :) I've been very lucky, bit like you in a way. My first car was a Renault Dauphin £40.00 in 1966. It did four successful trips to Hamburg from camp Hohne. then on the fifth it broke down on the Autobahn, I was in the second lane when it just died. I had enough clearance to get it onto the shoulder. My friend took the distributor cap off, then tried to work the startor motor, nothing. The rotor arm didn't turn ! Knackered ! Just then someone in a Glas (BMW engine) turned up and towed us, 1st to Soltau and two garages, who were unable to help. then he towed us (4 of us) back to camp. He wouldn't accept any gas coupons, but said, do this for someone else if you can, then went ! Talk about luck, the car went straight to scrap !

Put blocks under the back of the trailer next time those ramps don't have any stands. I've seen trailers that have a ton of up pressure on the trailer coupling cut loose and they could send you flying if you're inside the trailer.. on top of that you've almost got the back tires of the truck lifted off the ground that's the only thing that keeps it in place. I had my four-door diesel F350 get pushed down the driveway when loading a 20k basket lift

You are correct drivers are seriously disconnected from humanity. Now why the driver of that very overloaded pickup truck was not followed and ticketed to Mars by the state police is another travesty. That rig and trailer and cargo had no business on the public roadways. Totally his fault and if anyone was injured he would have been sued for life.
