@@ClimbingTheMountain777 ugh. When you're in the middle of what Conan was, which was a terrible mental space, those things unfortunately happen and you do your best to fix them. That's real life. People hurt people. Or they ratio (which does nothing unless youre a business or care about fake status). This celebrity worship/perfection nonsense has gone way too far
I love that you can randomly hear Sona cackling in half the shots, and if you look in the background you can often spot her giant mop of hair cocked back as she laughs. It all makes me smile.
This might be the least toxic comments section on the entirety of the internet. It's so nice to see so many people expressing their love and gratitude for such a genuinely beautiful soul. I can't stop scrolling.
I'm glad the editor included footage of the team ripping apart the backup singer for bringing her entire extended family to make themselves at home in the LEAD PERFORMER'S PRIVATE ROOM.
I think people have the wrong idea. Conan isn’t the best host because of his comedy or his sketches, (though both of which are top tier) he’s the best because of how genuine he is. He’s so human. He experiences burnout and sadness and frustration just like everyone else, and he isn’t afraid of people knowing it.
I think you have the wrong idea. You’re lowkey insinuating Conan didn’t make it through by hard work or talent but just through manners and that the other hosts aren’t genuine. That’s not admirable at all
I’m not happy that he did that! That was the only cringy part of the documentary. That kid was just speaking truthfully. This political correctness is killing comedy. Then the kid says “gyped” which is mildly derogatory towards gypsys. It’s OK to say I got Jewed.
@@appletongallery It's definitely not OK. Also, how is "political correctness" (being against derogatory terms) ruining comedy? I'd rather listen to the guy with the 3 decade-long successful comedy career. And I agree! Gypsys deserve respect too.
@@pedrochamberlain629 - It’s definitely OK to be derogatory towards Jews. It’s definitely OK to be derogatory towards whites, Hispanics, etc. Why must Jews be protected from criticism? Are they so weak that they can’t be knocked?
13:18 I love how the tour manager doesn’t understand Sona and Conan’s relationship, so he is genuinely trying to smooth over the situation with the messed up food order 🤣🤣🤣
Conan tells this story on his podcast about how he kept saying he wanted drugs (?) and this guy, the tour manager would always earnestly tell him no lol
53:55 I love that Sona's trying to protect Conan a bit from all the people he has to constantly meet, and Conan immediately pipes in "That's not your job!" Conan's going through it in this movie, but you can tell he and his crew love each other.
@@Orbitalbomb I love Craig Ferguson, no doubt. But it's not even close my man. Conan is an Icon in latenight, and amongst comedians as a whole. Craig was amazing too but didn't push the boundaries of the game and reinvent them. Craig was super funny, and his flirting is legendary, but outside of that...he pales in comparison to the palest man in history. Coco for lyfe!
Conan’s tour manager who you see in this movie is Gus Brandt. He was my tour manager for a while in the early 2000’s. Best in the biz. You absolutely can’t make him laugh. Ever. Sweetest guy in the world though. He’s with the Foo Fighters and Blink 182 now. Cheers Gus!
It really warms my heart how hardcore Conan sticks up for Sona for the whole problem backstage meet-and-greet stuff. She got sorta thrown under the bus and Conan would not have it. It would be the easiest thing in the world to just "blame the assistant" and let it go, but he sticks to his guns TWICE. 49:17 "No, you can't put this on Sona" 53:40 "That is not your job, it's ridiculous"
There's always been something a bit suspect about how he continues to include her in his life. She doesn't provide anything of value, yet she's always center-stage. If I were his wife, I wouldn't like it one bit.
In his podcast, Conan said that Jack has the best deadpan responses, so that everyone thinks Conan really is a bully and Jack really hates this. But it's all acting and playing off on each other, believe it or not.
the bitching was hard to watch. as understandable as his exhaustion may have been. seems like maybe he should just have darted out of those places after the show.
Seeing Conan so raw and vulnerable is both heartbreaking and aspirational. It’s never been about the money or status with him. It’s always been about the joy he gets in front of an audience and the joy the audience gets from him. He also surrounded himself with really good people that understood him and got him through that period; Sona, Sweeney, Blay, Ross, Andy and many others. Bless Liza too, she’s amazing. Much love to Team Coco. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.
I'm so glad I finally got to sit down and watch this. The "Can't Stop" aspect made me sad for Conan a bit. Like, you don't HAVE to make everything a bit. We'll still like you. We'll understand if you just want to sit there and not make everyone talk into banana phones. There's such a sad desperation underneath the funny. After years of hearing it on the podcast, the Conan and Sona dynamic is fascinating to watch on screen. This was a nice peek inside the Conanverse.
really is a class act to allow those kids who where bashing Jews to not just watch the show but also go to rehearsal. I hope that they grew wiser as they got older.
Man I don't know what to say No amount of words can describe what this man is how he's helped me through my anxiety. He is an all rounder. He's everything. I just purely love him just love him
I can't imagine what it must feel like having fun before your show with Jim Carrey, Craig Robinson, Nick Offerman and Jon Hamm... I know the general vibe of this documentary is he's working his ass off, but seriously what a life he's had...
42:57 probably the most cringeworthy moment of the doc where Conan shuts down the antisemitism of the kid. A lot of kids nowadays need a moment like that with the amount of "edgy" humor flying around that quickly denigrates into just casual racism. The other kids try to laugh it off but Conan really doesn't let him off on it, great scene
okay but conan was literally my childhood , i grew up with his humor and personality and was so happy when his show carried on into my teen years ! 💕 forever team coco !
I teared up at the part with the backup singers for some reason. It was just Conan, messing around, showing people that it's okay to let go, be silly and be happy. Conan O'Brien has always been there to lift me up over the course of the past ten years. Conan O'Brien might need a friend, but he's always been mine.
I love it Conan how you put your point across in a non-violitile way. Having being treated with disrespect impacts everyone who loves you. Be strong lol
I've been watching Conan for over 20 years. I've heard him tackle a lot of societal issues without being in your face about it. 9/11, mass shootings, gay marriage, etc. But the way he handles 43:00 and just really reps being a stand up guy, he's legit my hero. Conan makes the world a better place.
Such an honest and fascinating documentary. I’ve only really become aware of Conan and his crew quite recently because of the wonderful podcasts. Conan’s such a hardworking guy and everyone who knows him loves him 👍😎
You can tell conan is a great person....because almost all of his staff is still going strong (2022)....kill'n it with conan o'brian needs a friend podcast...New show coming up soon...this man can't just stop..and we don't want him to stop.
Third time watching this and I must say, as a documentary, this is superb. Makers did a great job telling the story through just shots (e.g. the cookie gift being broken after all the people came in and out). All the small little moments they captured. Great combination of a fascinating subject and thoughtful film making
When I go to Bonnaroo I usually go to the comedy tent to sleep, it's air conditioned, dark and quiet half the time. I didn't even know he was going to be performing till ppl started rolling in. It was so damn funny. Great suprise that year.
Always loved Conan, but the older I get the more I realize how toxic media culture was back then (90s-2000s specifically), and the more I have a newfound appreciation for Conan. 💗 I first realized it when I started noticing that he makes everyone seem so comfortable, even the most notoriously awkward and uncomfortable people (like Kristen Stewart for example). And how different some of his older interviews seem when compared against some of the other late night show host’s interviews (Letterman forcing girls to kiss him first comes to mind, and many of the rest asking super gross or intrusive “gotcha” questions and making super demeaning jokes about women.) Conan seems like a truly great man and this gave me an even better behind-the-scenes view of it. You can also tell that keeping his team employed was weighing really heavily on him. Hope to see him doing some more great stuff again in the near future 💗
Wow, someone who doesn't actually like letterman! My kinda guy! Edit: the funny part is you're not a guy. Hope you got the joke, since you were talking about toxic culture 😜
watching the getting ready to tour part is painful to watch - the stress for everyone, except maybe sona, is heavy. welcome to eugene ....sona to mom.."ok dude" , i was "mommy dude" to my son. i can relate to all this. stress, humor, self doubt - success by a thousand cuts. AARRGGHH. great show....
This is a great documentary. Conan deserves all the success and should always be on screen or audio. One of the funniest genuine good humans on the planet.
100% dope AF & the film that caused me to experience envy for another man's talent & drive for the 1st time ever. Conan is the man, and we're lucky to have him.
what a legend. He has conquered the comedy world and has become a living legend. He is up there with Comedy Gods like Groucho Marx , Richard Pryor, Johnny Carsson and Monty Python. He is The Ginger Hurricane , a pale and sickly force of nature ! I would have loved to see more of him and the band. TEAM COCO 4 LIFE
I love how he both cares so much for his staff and at the same time he bullies them to death. They all look like they hate the fact that they love him.
Conan was my favorite before allyall. Not really a word. Since the 90's. With his "in the year 2000....in the year 2000....." best interviewer BY FAR!! My God he saved so many interviews.....so underrated but brilliant.
Yes me too. I can still remember the high pitched voice saying "in the year 2000". I was in middle school lol. I remember the first time I saw him on tv I thought he was great
Thanks for uploading, I doubt if have ever seen this without it being on RU-vid. Just heard about it on the Inside Conan podcast. Now if we could just get full episodes of the shows on RU-vid!
36:50 Jeff Ross is so good at his job. He seems how exhausted Conan is, and how worried he is about that fact and comes in with the perfectone word reassurance on the spot.
