I honestly think Connor is the most tragic sibling and lowkey the most traumatized. The neglected eldest son. He hides his pain through his delusions but in reality he fully understands what kind of a father truly Logan is unlike the younger 3 who still clings on to their father for tiny crumbs of attention
Now that the series is over it’s easy to forget this scene and think the other three siblings had it worse off. Especially when we later find out Logan and Connor did have a relationship that the sibs weren’t involved in. However Connor *knew* his father didn’t care for him and by accepting that he could have a more friendly relationship with his dad but do you really wanna be just friends with your own father?
@@DSQueenie I'm just friends with my father. There's not much love there, he knows it and I know it, when you are in a situation like that, you just got to accept it. Everyone wants a loving father but not every one is. Not forgiving him is worse, it will crush you more. Being on friendly terms, is cool
This show is truly brilliant. Con has been the outcast because he’s seemingly the “weak” one. Coincidentally, that’s what makes him the strongest out of all the kids. They’ve all been chasing Logan’s approval - lying and backstabbing to do so - while Con doesn’t have to because never needed that love.
And say the second part that none of those children dare say: Logan likes Connor the most because he represents the least threat. Connor is the eldest boy, and in the end, he came out on top.
Also, Connor who grow up with no one as Logan ignored him and his mom put in an asylum survived with no love for a long time. And then he has a girlfriend / call girl who is in love with him on very odd way but still respects him. And he's the only sibling who has his own business which is his ranch and has to survive for a long time while his half siblings are acting so pretentious, spoiled and know it all and wants to backstab each other. Connor is honestly the only good Roy, he maybe an airhead (or Cone-head to be precise) but he never harm anybody.
@@NeverDauntedRadioNetwork fuck, you put it into words. that's what that odd feeling i had watching the footage of connor at dinner with logan during the wake was
Ordinarily this monologue would come across as melodramatic, but Connor is exactly the character to think up this phrase and wait for the right moment to use it.
This has to be one of the saddest pieces of dialogue I have actually heard… and his character in this moment becomes so clear. He spends 4 seasons being the butt of everyone’s jokes because he can be, because he just doesn’t care. He lived his entire life not being loved so none of it actually matters. He knows who he is to himself and to his family… probably the only person in his family to come to grips with his life and who he is and it sucks. That is conceptually so sad to hear out loud.
It matters but it's better being delusional, like the other 3 🤣🤣🤣. When you accept it, you can do your own thing and walk your own path. Of course the world is like a mindfield out there but the other 3 had it worse. At least Conner took a shot at life. The other 3 spent years by there fathers side for nothing.
It's been almost 24 hours since I watched that episode, and I'm still gutted. That hit really hard. In the hands of a lesser actor, it would have come across as whiny or over-dramatic. But Alan Ruck nailed it.
Damn that was brutal and even more so upon rewatch. Con's completely alone at the rehearsal dinner until the siblings arrive. We learn he's never done karaoke like he's seen in all the films (seems out of touch but is sad in a different light). When Con tries to extend loyalty to Logan, he's rebuffed in favor of Roman and then ignored. Story of his life. I think Connor does want love, as I imagine Logan did at one point. Then they reached a certain age and for self preservation alone, both gave up in different ways. I hope Alan Ruck is recognized this season!
Biggest difference is though: between him and Logan Connor didn't let his lack of love turn him into a mean person. And in that regard he's a better man than his father.
It didn't come out of nowhere though. He always had it inside him. He just waited until the person he "loved" or trusted betrayed him. So he wanted to express his anger.
Every time I see Connor and Willa is like Shiv and Tom but way healthier and less toxic. Sure, they both have platonic relationship but they both support each other. Connor even ask his dad to give a good review to Willa's play and Willa even helped Connor to "fix" his eulogy on Mo's funeral. Connor has survived for a long time without love and that's why he separated himself from the company as he knows he won't be the CEO.
connor is my favourite and the only one with a tender heart. the other kids are just as silly and just as entitled. no brighter. but they lack his sweetness.
Conor grew just tall enough to see over the fence and realise his place in the world, he probably had a small period where he was treated like a prince and then his mum went ill and his dad abandoned him, only to then live a life of privilege because he was Logan's regret and mistake. But never something to raise and care for.
Tender heart? Yeah i remember how he belittled kitchen staff for some shit and threw a tantrum cuz the dinner didnt go perfectly the way he planned, he called them names and berated those workers. So tender
He is the only Roy with a happy ending, even has a genuine relationship with an escort, although the Pretty Woman scenario of an escort falling in love with her client never happens in real life.
@@johnpark7972 they are all rich af -- they all have a happy ending. I have less than $300 in my bank account rn living paycheck to paycheck at age 33 even after working for almost fifteen years. Trust me, they are happy but just don't realize it because of their greed and desire for their father's approval.
As fucked up as Connor is he is absolutely the healthiest and strongest one of them all. He managed to choose a healthy partner and be in a somewhat healthy relationship, he doesn’t need his fathers love for validation, he recognizes his family’s toxicity and distances himself, he still has goals and hope for his future. In my eyes he’s the only one that broke the cycle because I always saw him being a great potential father.
I agree :) At least he took a shot at life. The other 3 is more screwed up. That's the way life is, it's a harsh world and it didn't turn out great for Connor. But it turned out worse for the other 3.
What I do feel really interesting about Connor is that he is the only one brother for whom is own family is just a business. No daddy issues involving his decisions or choices, no power fighting dramas, just give me the money and that’s it. And you might think, boy that’s horrible, he only wants the money for doing literally nothing, but at the same time is ironic to think that lack of empathy for his own family is what makes Connor a dude that makes no bullshit or mistakes blinded by personal issues or family matters. Somehow he has just accepted that his family is beyond salvation and only takes what is valuable from them.
I think Connor is the only one who got something closest to a happy ending. I believe he is not far from the truth here, he was the only one who tried to pave their own way, and not just continue their dad's work in hopes of getting his approval.
This is Connors way of really opening up. As much as he mentions he doesn't need his dads love. He really makes it a point here that he wants his dads love. So bad.
Specially nowadays, love has lost its meaning, ppl hooked up or are in relationships for selfish reasons like physical or economical. And thus ppl adapt to the lack of love
People always dismiss Connor as being an idiot, but he is 100% right here. He needed attention and love like any other person, but he has become stoic and chosen to accept himself as he is rather than project his anger and insecurities on others, and fight for Logan's approval. He may be a bit delusional and incompetent but I think he is a good person and the best child of Logan.
@@iloveads123 I think that was him living out his dreams. He wasn't delusional about actually being president, but he would be damned if any one wouldn't let him have some fun.
Connor is like... _whatever the completely noncomedic equivalent_ of the Straight Man in a comedy is. In the sense that he's there to provide perspective. Except instead of giving perspective to how absurd it all is, he's there to remind you of just how _deep_ the wounds in everyone go.
Connor just saying the fucking truth omg . I so love that he's the brother being appart of his siblings, we all thought he was the weirdo but in fact they are all those three the weirdos
I feel like Ruck's been playing towards this moment his whole career, from Cameron ("Ferris Bueller") to Stephen ("Speed") and even the overshadowed but otherwise competent Capt. Harriman ("Star Trek Generations"). I wouldn't call him typecast per se, but after hiring Ruck, they completely rewrote Stephen in "Speed" (originally an entitled, arrogant lawyer whose BMW was in the shop).
I'm sure that Connor knows that at this point that Willa doesn't love him and she's just with him, because of his money. The problem with Connor is that he sets unrealistic goals like "Becoming the next president of the United States". Sure, Connor Roy was always interested in politics since a young age, but he should know by this point that he should start small, like running for congress, for example.
I feel like Willa does love him. She's the only one who cares about his feelings. She supports his dreams, not making fun of him haha but i agree they both set unrealistic goals (it's still cute) Though they both are not smart people career wise, emotionally they are way better capable then the other characters on the show. Willa is just freaking about about marriage which is pretty normal reaction for girls.
@@igormachado2194 I wouldn't go so far as to say she feels ONLY pity for him. I think it's more complex than that. She cares about him because money apart he is evidently very nice and sweet to her. He treats her like an actual human being with affection and respect while the rest of the Roys will never let her forget where she came from. I think she appreciates that. They both provide emotional stability to each other and I think it's sweet. Connor is a lot more capable of being a good partner than any of his relatives.
@@igormachado2194 Willa may not love him but she support him, both support each other, compare to the other character relationship. Willa and Connor sure the most healthy relationship, it may lack romantic vibe but sure the one who will be last long
Am I see the irony here? Shiv and Kendall are laughing it off celebrate their "victory" for winning arguments against Logan but somehow got depressing endings while Roman and Connor who mostly don't talk too much on this argument got "Peaceful" endings?
They always treated Connor like an idiot and while he definitely could be, at least he knew that chasing after Logan begging and demanding approval and trying to outsmart him was the worst thing you could try to do. Insanity is doing the same thing over and expecting different results which is why three of Caroline’s kids lost.
I felt like Connor is the most relatable one out of the four siblings for the audience, like there are more emotions and characteristics or just his whole story that the audiences relate to, just my opinion
Connor doesnt understand much, hes a doofus, a looser, he doesent have a strong grasp on reality but he is probably the only person in the world that understands Logan and knows that fighting over his love is a fools errent. Logan has no love to give and Connor knows it. Thats why in a way he won in the end by not playing at all.
Shiv realizes he much wrong she was in this episode after her father died, Shiv can’t even comprehend connor’s pain bcoz she is self-absorbed cheating lying wife
i find it odd how many people find connor to be a sympathetic figure. Hes just as diluded as the others just in a separate direction. He proposed to a girl young enough to be his daughter at someone elses wedding, hes a broken individual like the rest. I like that the show has a character like Connor to be a separate result of the same formula but I never saw him as a “noble” figure
most feminists leftists who watch this show will say Logan was a le bad father or something, but raising kids is NOT easy, Connor here sees it, hes the most self aware and strong of them all and a made man.
a man in his late 50s is on the verge of tears talking about his life without love and affection and your take away from this is that logan was an a1 father and the politcal me-no-likes are wrong for pointing out that the father who beat them, habitually lied, mocked, and neglected them while exposing them to cohorts of paedophiles, rapists and murderers and pitting them against eachother ARE infact wrong. Connor is more acutely self-aware of his flaws but also entertains ridiculous delusions because at his core he is a deeply broken man, he is anything but a made man.
Thats actually a pretty unique opinion. All of the kids get sympathy but less so the father, not sure if I agree but its fascinating nonetheless. In the end morality is relative to its very core and objective morality does not exist unless you make your own code and follow it/or follow a religion/someone elses set of rules of honour. Thats the only conclusion I can get from shows like Succession/Game of Thrones/House of the Dragon. Connor and Willa are probably the most healthy characters on the show. Delusional maybe but they are kind of self aware of that as well, they still do it for the fun.
@@TheAsymmetrical you made her point lol, you don't have kids lol. Logan tried to look for the best in them fuck he even told Shiv she would take over but she didn't change her demeanor. He took of Kendalls murder, he then told Romulus he would take over after Kendall and shiv failed. He could not trust none of them. Becajse he really did take care of them
