This is brilliant. I see a lot of people fail to direct natural light and end up with dull images. Good advice here and once again--you are a tremendous inspiration! Thanks, Jeff!

I would love to see an extended version of this video to cover the techniques and tips for utilizing the direction of light.

Robin Baranov/LinkedIn that’ll surely happen one day, but for now, we’re tactically focused on creating short form content with high impact. :)

Excellent video, especially for beginners. Direction of light is so important yet it’s often glossed over in instructionals.

Love these vids. Simple, direct information with nothing there that shouldn’t be. A lot of other photographers who upload vids could learn a thing or two from you

"Gear doesn't matter" said a guy with a7r3 and correspondent set of lenses, ha-ha. Not everybodys gear could produce such a quality image at 2000 iso. Nevertheless, a great thought and inspiration for beginners! Gear doesn't matter indeed, but the example pics do not represent the idea as fully as they could have possibly represented it. And I totally agree with the rest: light and posing matter much more. Thank you for everything you do, I admire your work!=)

Hamael whether I use an iPhone with a flashlight or a hasselblad with Broncolor lights people will ALWAYS complain. The concept here is learn to light without a ton of gear, did I achieve that in your eyes?
@VirgoHamael

@@JeffRojas Yes, I think you did convey the message you were trying to convey, yet to be more convincing it would've been better to showcase your point with a cheap beginner-level camera. ...Well, this may be a nice idea for some future video=) And I'm sorry if it sounded like I was complaining.

Hamael camera brand really doesn’t matter. You are able to create this image with any beginner camera. All you need is a fast aperture lens. You can get a 50mm 1.8 lens from every camera manufacturer for less than $250. If that’s to expensive for you, then you can get a Yongnou for $49 on Amazon and you will get an almost identical quality. A $2,000 hammer or a $49 hammer is still a hammer. Might not be the greatest build quality or name brand, but it will get the same job done. What matters the most is capturing all available light at your disposal and using it creatively.

@@ronyedin I'm not talking about me, I talk about proving a point. And the best way to prove a point that gear doesn't matter is to actually shoot with a cheap camera and lens and with available light. I used to use a cropped canon with 50mm yongnuo, than 5dmk2 with L lenses, and now I use a7r2, and with every camera and lens I was able to achieve result. So again, I'm not talking about my skills and, as I said, I totally agree with Jeff's words in the video. It just could have been illustrated better. I'm sorry if my english isn't perfect, it's not my native language.

So my question is about beginners gear. I currently shoot with a Canon T3 (1100D), that was given to me, and the 50mm f1.8. How do I deal with/ get around shooting at the higher ISO and noise it produces? I think the ISO on my camera hits a ton of noise after about 800 to 1000. Is it a post processing game then?

Thanks for the video. I find myself drawn to OCF because I can get extremely tack sharp images. With natural light I struggle getting that same result. It's sharp yet soft. Is this natural? Am I pixel peeping too much?
@JeffRojas

Ajax Rodriguez you’re pixel peeping way too much. Lol there are AMAZING photographers who have slightly out of focus photos that we all covet.

How did you come up with a studio with a giant bounce card (roof) outside the window? You must get good daylight for much of the day.
