Hellblazer was an absolutely amazing book & John Constantine was a blonde older punk rocker with a bad attitude from East London & in the late 80s when it came out, us punks & Goth kids loved it & that setting was perfect, nothing needed to be changed about the comic book, NOTHING!!!!!!! Daniel Craig would have been absolutely perfect to play Constantine or the guy they had play him in the series!!! Anyway that's why you'll come across people that take serious issue with the film!!! Cool on it's own, but absolutely bastardized the book!!!!!!!

Peter Stormare as Lucifer was just perfect. He just projects that veil of menace hidden right below the surface so well. Something nobody seems to notice, or don't mention, in the scene where the guy carrying the Spear jumps the fence, the cows aren't just falling down dead. They're instantly rotting. My man is possessed with something TRUELY evil. Edit: The Half-Breeds with gold in their eyes (and wings, obviously) are Heaven-born, while those with red in their eyes are Hell-born. Papa Midnight's Bar is neutral ground. Thus why you see a Goldeye turn water into wine, and some Redeyes "feasting" Constantine said cats are "half in, half out". Not half in Hell, but half in the Spiritual Realm. Ever see a cat watching something in an empty room? And Hennessey, I don't know if it's Psychic or not, but he can hear voices and feel tremors on the Spiritual plane. That's how he was able to divine what all those news paper articles were about, and when he found the one about Isabel, he felt the right tremor. But remember, John took a pendant from him, telling him to "listen to the ether". I'm pretty sure that's how Balthazar was able to influence him, making him think the booze he needed to silence the voices wasn't flowing. Constantine sacrificed himself to let Isabel go to Heaven. That act saved his own soul from Hell. So, Lu pulled the cancer from John's lungs, and presumably healed the cuts on John's wrists.

@@ItsTaraAnn it wasn't a bomb but it wasn't good either. Opening week finished 2nd to Hitch in its 2nd week. The critics hated it. It really hit its cult following through video and a sequel wasn't even spoken about until 2011 and it didn't get a green light until 2020.

Speaking of Eric Stoltz and Angels and Demons, you should check out The Prophecy (1995). Stars Christopher Walken as the Arch-Angel Gabriel and Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) as Satan. VERY underrated movie.

"End of Days" was already suggested. The antagonist played excellently by Gabriel Byrne who you saw in "Stigmata". You know about and should see "the Devil's Advocate". In a similar vein as all of these, "Mr Frost" with Jeff Goldblum as the devil. A sleeper that hardly anyone knows, that's worth watching, maybe reacting to is "the Gift" with Cate Blanchette (2000, just before she played Galadriel the elf queen in Lord of the Rings)

In the comics, Constantine was basically Sting. The singer one, not the wrassler. And Keanu has said a few times that this role is one he'd love to revisit.

One of my favorite tines, next to Oval. I met with Peter Stormare once about working for his metal label as a band scout. I would have had to travel around and go watch low end metal bands to see if they were any good. I didn’t take the job because I thought it would suck after two weeks and I know I have an incredible knack for telling musicians when they suck and am far less verbal when I meet a good musician.

I like this movie, but after conversations with Constantine fans I understand why they hate it. Didn't know when I watched it that this is a DC comic character so Constantine exists in the same universe as Superman and can beat him in a fight since Superman is vulnerable to magic.

The TV series is great. It's a more accurate representation of Constantine as a character, but that in no way drafts from this fantastic movie. All you need to know about The Devil's Advocate is that Al Pacino chews that scenery like a motherfucker. It's fantastic. He also does a great job of that in The Recruit with Colin Farrell.

Gavin Rossdale isn't in this one, but we have Henry Rollins 😅 A comedy with Keanu Reeves that nobody talks about, few mention and that I like a lot is The Night Before from 1988, it's not "excellent", nor is it original, but I like it, but probably not even a streaming service should have it in its catalog.

Lucifer played by Peter Stormare also has a tv series called Swedish Dicks as in Swedish Detectives and Keanu Reeves was invited to play the bad guy in it. Love your reactions Tara, you are the best and I enjoy every one of those that I watch. I dont watch reactions to movies I havent seen first.

peter stormare definitely gave us one of the most interesting images of satan, after deniro's. as for the afterscene, it seems that many missed it. the reason? back then, afterscenes had not yet become such a common (and annoying!) phenomenon.
