COP GETS SHUTDOWN - WHO’S THE IDIOT NOW ? - First Amendment Audit 36 : The Showtime Network was filming an episode of The Affair in the Village of East Hampton, NY today and had the town police running defense for them. When reading the comments I realized that even on this channel many folks do not understand basic US big brother psychology. You hire police because they are a SIGNAL of authority. The producer knows she cannot forbid folks coming around snooping so she hires OD local police (instead of security firm) to be the perceived AUTHORITY. People unaware of their rights, when asked by police to move along - WILL MOVE ALONG for the most part because they think they HAVE to. Because the people think police have the authority to tell them they have to leave, most will believe them and go away. Do you remember when the McDonalds manager stripped searched a teenage employee because the "police" on the phone told her to? She would NEVER had done anything like that on her own but because a person of AUTHORITY told her to , she did. The entire point of this guy videoing for us was missed by folks worrying about if the production crew had a permit or not. The point is WE have rights and THEY have those same exact rights. Our rights can't be revoked because we look like a high rich lady, a poor white homeless guy or a black guy in a suit. We the people means all of us. Please always remember that the police department serves YOU. They do not have the authority to do many things they ask you to do that sounds like an order, but is actually a request. You can tell them NO. No you may not enter my home. No you may not search my car. No you may not see my ID.Most people do not question authority and because of this they get so used to peple waiving their rights that they get to thinking we dont have any. It has to stop

I get that, and I get what this guy was trying to do, but at some point he just sounds like an internet troll edit: after reading some of the comments. I just want to take a moment and laugh at all the turds posting comments about; how the police officers are, "insert insult"... ...etc. I bet most of you, myself included, can be lazy, or slacking at some point in their job or career (less likely in a career). x) The hypocrisy xD

I used to build hotels, apartments and condos in and around downtown Los Angeles. One day someone came up to me and asked if we could be quiet when a red light is flashing because they were filming a movie or tv show. I told him that we could give him 30 minutes if the crew could eat the catered food. He said they couldn't do that. When the light came on, I fired up the heavy forklift, chair saw, leaf blower and every noise maker we had. My crew had a good lunch that day.

Personal opinion... this is one of the best videos you have ever done. I have watched a BUNCH of them. You were straight forward about why you were there, what you were doing, gave EVERYONE respect and respected their boundaries. You could have easily pressed the advantage of your knowledge of what they were filming, tried to sell recordings on the open market, but never even attempted to try! Keep up the good work sir! That's not how it works everywhere. I live in the Northeast, there are tons of privately owned cemeteries. There are also cemeteries that have been in families for Generations. What there is is an easement, a right-of-way from public property to allow anyone who has relatives in the cemetery to enter it. I'm in real estate, I have sold properties with cemeteries on them.

Eric Beller..... you are misled.... just because the public is allowed or invited to a place, (store, lake, restaurant, rented gymnasium, etc) that PRIVATELY owned place does NOT miraculously belong to the public...... it remains privately owned and the public is invited/allowed to be there (think kroger, PRIVATELY owned, public invited to come spend money there, but the owners still OWN it, and can control it, for instance telling the public that they cannot run, smoke, take pictures).... do ya understand a little better now? just because the public is ALLOWED or INVITED does not turn YOUR PRIVATE PROPERTY into PUBLIC property

Eric Beller Pruneyard is a bit complicated depending on the state. Regardless, if the cemetery is private property, the management can still restrict your license to be there if you are infringing on their business. In this case, it appears the cemetery decided to be in the film set rental business that day. The kids in Pruneyard can’t block entrances and this cameraman can’t interfere with the production. His implied license can be revoked if the management sees fit. I suppose if he has some ownership stake in a plot he could claim some sort of contract breach but I’m assuming there is all kinds of disclaimers in the contracts - like we reserve the right to restrict access for any reason we choose. In this case the cemetery appears to be public so Pruneyard doesn’t apply.

What about when the persons plot runs out and the cemetery have to destroy old plots to make new ones? who's disrespectful there, the cemetery or the dead people for not having enough money to buy a longer plot time, or the dead peoples family for not caring enough to renew the plot lease? where does it begin and end if humans can't walk over land like intended?

@@poodledaddles1091 that is a dept to dept policy. in many dept the answer is, Yes. Often times cops off duty can work private security with permission from their dept and can wear full uniform. Cops working privately can still run ID and function as LE. I just get the impression these cops are not off the clock.

Yeah and the funeral earlier was just a mock one like the gravestones are all made of foam.. wanna-be famous meets small town population...
