I go through how I clean my corn snakes tank, and add in 2 feeding clips i’ve taken of Cruze eating. Slo mo on the strike too, because he is an excited eater! questions ❓ comments ⌨️ concerns 😱 put them down below ⬇️
I have a couple questions.. is it important to have a background for my enclosure? Also what the heck is spot cleaning and how do you do that? I got my first ever corn snake almost a week ago, hes just a baby. He is always hiding in his cork log, how can I get him to come out of it?? I am excited to hold him for the first time but he's so shy. 🤭🥰
Also I have a thermostat to regulate my heat and I see you have the temperature probe inside the enclosure.. I tried that but I am unable to lock the screen top properly and I'm worried my little dude might figure out how to get to the top and escape. Do you have any suggestions for this problem?
Do you have to throw away all of the aspen/bedding every month? Can’t you just sift out any wet or dirty parts? Maybe do a full replacement every four to six months? Just seems wasteful to throw all the bedding away every month... 😓 Wouldn’t he prefer some of his old bedding to keep his scent within the enclosure?
Soaking them in a mild disinfectant (such as a pet safe cleaner) and then rinsing clean & brushing if necessary. You could also use vinegar instead of a disinfectant when soaking the hides & accessories
spot clean the enclosure weekly (if you see any nasties, spot clean them by removing any soiled bedding). Spot cleaning is not a requirement but it really helps with hygiene & with regular spot cleaning you will only need to deep clean the tank every month or so
Personally I change all my snakes water once a day, but this is not required and is almost impossible to do for people that have a lot of snakes. Id say every 2-3 days is acceptable as long as there is always fresh water available. Sometimes your snake will dirty the water with substrate or poop, if you ever see that its important to change the water right away
In this case i would suggest you just go right for it & pick up your snake. snakes dont really like to be touched or “pet”. Once you pick up your snake be very calm & gentle. Allow your snake to slither in your hands (or on your arms depending on how big your snake is) Good luck with your snake!
Depending on the size of the enclosure you should be completely cleaning the tank out every 4 weeks. if you do regular spot cleaning it is possible to go 6 weeks without a deep clean
worth it depends on what your basing a corn snake against. If you are looking for your first pet reptile then I would say corn snakes make amazing first pets. If you are an experienced keeper and have many reptiles you may find that a corn snake is not really the most interesting (out of all pet reptiles). In my opinion however, corn snakes are really nice to keep. They are fun to watch & learn from, are very docile and once they grow up they love to come out of their enclosure & hang around with you/ explore new places.
@@beb4354 yes. the only other comparative snake would be a ball python, but I would go with a corn snake. They are a little smaller in size, easier to care for & manage (you dont have to worry about high humidity with corn snakes) and in my experience corn snakes seem to be more active than ball pythons (granted i have 3 corn snakes and only 1 ball python, but i see my corn snakes out & about way more throughout the day than my ball python. Bottom line- you cant go wrong with a corn snake for your first snake
