Hey Doctor, I feel like you put your finger on the problem that modern world is going through! Is there any way you can make a longer video on how to reverse the process of long term sustained stress? THANKS FOR ALL THE FREE CONTENT!
Possibly the most helpful video I've ever watched!! Thank you Dr. Berg! I have been under extreme stress for decades now, and am bed-bound for 3 yrs. I can walk a few steps, but no more before my muscles seize up and it's like a vise grip is tightened around my pelvis and legs. I was DX with a Neuro-muscular disease like ALS 10 yrs ago, but most recent nerve study said negative, yet I still cannot walk.
I thought I was suffering from depression but now I understand it wasn't , it's been long term stress! Over the last 4 and a half year my parents were diagnosed having cancer and since have passed away. Most recent My mother in jan this year. I came across your channel Dr Berg while searching, as to why I was unable to loose weight. You have helped me understand why I have been suffering from weight gain memory fog, fatigue, insomnia, skin problems and a few more issues. I am on the way to helping myself instead of taking anti depressant tablets which did nothing for me. Started intermittent fasting and ketogentic eating and the Weight is coming off and I am feeling more like myself again. Thank you so so much. Love all your videos. Cheryl xx
Cheryl Cairns So sad, thanks for sharing. Losing a parent/s is one of the most stressful events ever. I'm curious to know if you had blood tests taken or did the doc just hand out pills?
amazing! this hit a homerun for me. This is EXACTLY what my challenge is. I have begun a HIIT program, and taking my kids on walks with me. Lastly, I need to make time for meditation, atleast 20 min. per day. That is my next goal. Dr. Berg, you have made such an impact on my life as of late, that one day I will visit you and shake your hand, maybe a hug too lol Thank you so much for what you do here. It is GREATLY appreciated.
I'm from Ireland. I have been suffering with generalised anxiety disorder since late 2010. I'm on antidepressants. I think ketogenic diet is helping me a lot this year after watching some of Dr. Berg's videos. I would have to say that my anxiety doesn't get well with carbohydrate foods, because it always makes my head feel full after eating. I agree what Dr. Berg in this video said walking outside is good for cortisol. I had the magnificence of walking in the countryside for two hours almost every day a few weeks ago. It was great to relieve my full head. Definitely, I will do it again soon.
Thank you, Dr., for explaining the relation between stress and damages to our bodies. I’ve suffered stress for decades, as a result of having to live with an overt narcissistic mother for my first 30 years, followed to a 22 year marriage to a covert narcissist (after a nine year separation we’re still going through a painful divorce). As a result of this, I’ve been diagnosed with several autoimmune disorders in the last few years (I’m 61 now), but none of them runs in my family, I never smoked and I didn’t suffered any of the infections commonly associated with AI disorders, so I can only conclude they were caused by chronic stress. I already overcame a 12 year depression, but have not found remedy for the CPTSD, chronic anxiety or insomnia after seeing several counselors and psychologists. I’ve tried all the common treatments, including opioids and immunodepressants, but found no relief either. At this point the pain and fatigue are so cripling that I only have a few able hours each day to take care of the most urgent chores. No time or energy for walks, exercise, yoga, meditation et al. I wished someone would address a situation that makes daily life a constant struggle.
Thank you for this stress video. It came in a timely manner for me after a sudden and personal loss of a family member. I’ve been struggling and thought I was going crazy. I’ve experienced everything you mentioned. At first my brain was sharp and working though what needed to be done immediately. Now, it’s brain fog, can’t remember where I put things or lose them constantly. My health has taken a turn for the worse and fits your explanation on how the body works under stress. My allergies kicked into high gear and had a sinus infection that wouldn’t go away. Not to mention feeling tired. Thankfully, sleep comes after exhausting days. Love you videos.
I went through a 2 year episode with extremely high Cortisol and I appreciate your views on the matter. Your synopsis is about as good as it gets. I would like to add that Cortisol has a timed release during the night that makes it impossible to get a full nights sleep. It doesn't matter if you are dreaming or awake, when the cortisol is released, all thoughts OR DREAMS, will turn very negative. By 8:00 am your mind will be so full of anxiety you may be shaking. which happened to me.
Richard Stoody what tests did they do to find the results ? Right now I'm having two blood tests am and pm and a 24 hr urine collection .... I'm hoping this will tell them something but some ppl have told me the only one that shows is the saliva test ....now I don't know what to think ....I am separately needing to figure out what's wrong and I have all the symptoms of adrenal fatigue and high cortisol ... so curious what tests u had that confirmed high cortisol ... thank you :)
Kittenpurrrs, during my ordeal, I had no medical, formal, testing. Researching the topic produced evidence that cortisol is a very fleeting hormonal condition. Catching it at a high point in blood or saliva is hit or miss. The overwhelming evidence that cortisol was my problem was constant, high levels of anxiety. What i'm saying is, if you have high anxiety, you have a cortisol problem. I am not a medical professional, but I was able to take control of my brain by increasing other hormones that neutralize cortisol.
Richard Stoody - please tell me how you neutralized cortisol with other hormones - my friend is having melt down anxiety attacks - it's getting worse- and it comes out of no where - but it's so bad - she needs relief. She does no drugs or alcohol- lost a lot of weight, has locked herself in her apartment because she is afraid of fainting in public -again.
tcnascar1 - I can't give advice, but I can tell you what worked for me. I found that testosterone,( and I suspect Estrogen) in your system, if at high enough levels, will neutralize the immediate effects of a cortisol hit. Cortisol hits like a light switch going on from the slightest input. Later I found that progesterone would even things out and make everything smoother. I only used natural ways to increase T, but progesterone cream works really well and is and easy thing to do. When cortisol took over and I was a nervous wreck, then endorphines, oxytocin, or dopamine had to be used. I did heavy muscle exercise to create endorphines. 30 seconds of push-ups gave me an hour and a half of sleep. Oxytocin you can get from a hug, a pet, a friend. It didnt last as long. Dopemine comes from satisfying a desire, but my depression was so severe, I had no desires. All other remedies that I tried were minimally effective. Dr. Darren Schmidt(You tube) relates an anxiety period that he dealt with by using vitamin B, but I didn't know about that at the time. Hope this helps.
Wow! I wonder now, if Stress may have triggered my Diabetes or contributed to it... 10 years ago, I was crushed at work. Broken back and a whole lot of other things. I went from being a very athletic man to being an invalid... a few months later I was diagnosed with T2 Diabetes... A few months after that, I got Shingles... Gaud! the list kept growing... But the Stress from a whole new lifestyle was all over me... I couldn't exercise like I used to and was mainly confined to home... I could barely even walk... Things have taken these 10 years to improve but I still walk with a cane... I stopped driving a car, to force myself to get out and walk... Now I do everything outdoors on foot... I find, the more I attack my situation, the better things get :-) This has been a great video for me... Thanks for sharing :-)
I've had PTSD twice, came across a post in a PTSD forum stating the same thing about triggering diabetes, pretty spot on i think, stress is bad if it's prolonged
The only thing that prevented me from wearing a wheelchair was the Gung Fu (Kung Fu) that I took and taught for years... Tai Chi, in particular, teaches one to relax in stressful situations... My accident, found me pinned between 3 X 2500 pound Steel I-beans... I was folded up like a Pretzel... While in the worst pain of my life, I was calm, cool and relaxed... While everyone there was freaking out, I was giving directions and First-Aid... Sheesh! To say the least, it takes a lot to get me stressed out... I don't dismiss PTSD... I know that I am a very unique individual and did not experience it to the degree that many people do... My heart goes out to you... Now I am very Spiritual and spend a lot of time in meditation. Now I focus on what I have and not on what's missing... I am thankful to just be alive and able to live in this beautiful world, a little longer :-) If I am going to be disabled, I'm going to make the most of a less than ideal situation... I have since taught myself to use my martial arts from my personal perspective... I think of it as Gung Fu for the Disabled... It's like accomplishing the most with limited resources... :-) I refer to it as Conservation of Movement and Energy... Very similar to "Bruce Lee's" style of fighting...
Sounds like you are a very lucky guy! I was in a chemical explosion, the doctor at emergency told me if I had breathed in I would be dead, kind of makes you think lol
Wow! You're pretty lucky, yourself... I can only imagine the PTSD that you are carrying... Explosions of any sort will have serious consequences...I had worked for years in the "Oil Patch". A "Blow-out can mean a lot of things, from the drilling rig blowing up to an H2S leak... Both are deadly... Just a whiff of Hydrogen Sulfide is enough to kill... Sheesh! I have read many accounts of Magic Mushrooms helping PTSD... Maybe give that a go... :-) Good luck
ITs really amazing how long one can "live" with constant stress, self-dout, worry and fear without realizing they have adapted to it and it feels normal. Only to watch video like this that living like everyday is day spent in fear or in state where you feel "tiger" is gonna jump out any minute is not good or healthy. Yes that would be me until i found Dr berg several years ago. Simply accepting stress existing as a thing you DONT have to constantly have helps. And wathing a calm person talk about it helps even more.
Dr Berg! You honestly changed my life. I need your help on interstitial cystitis. Every Dr i saw want to put me on medication which comes with a lot a sides effects so i never took medication. I have this problem since 10 years and im 30yrs old. Im on a Ketogenic diet since 2 months and im feeling so good!! but my IC is about the same... or even worse... need you Ben
This is your best work and please bring back the original Adrenal & Cortisol Support supplement. It was the best adrenal/cortisol support on the market and many are lost without it. I am a practitioner and have been recommending it to patients for many years, until now.
Could you please do a video on working nightshift or just lack of sleep in general..? I feel like it's really starting to affect my health but would like to know the science behind it all. Thanks Kerina.
Hello Eric i have a question from the UK, I started taking an Indian herb called Ashwaganda which is an adapogenic. Thw thing is i could build a tolerence to it, there are conflicting arguments on the internet, could you make a video clearing this up for me and many others please? I have been taking 5 scoops for a couple months and never had to increase the dosage. I had sleeping problems before but this really relaxes me and makes me sleep. I found this to be my cure for insomnia
I spent the last 7 years working every single day, and haven't missed a day until two months ago when I quit both my jobs. In the last 3 years, I was also full time student, and my diet has been abysmal this whole time, consisting mainly of pasta and sweets and you can forget about getting adequate sleep. My body paid the price, I have a ton of symptoms, but I am hoping to reverse them all.
Dr. Berg, anyway to naturally help sleep apnea? I have bloating, acid reflux and fatigue everyday from it. a video for this would be very appreciated. Thank you.
I’m a wreck. I have very high levels of stress for a very long time. I also have an adenoma on one of my adrenal glands. I can’t get away from the stress or prevent it. I’ve been getting severe cramps in my torso & hip sockets even though I’ve increased my magnesium and potassium intake. I’m insulin resistant, have Hashimoto’s (so, of course, overweight), am pre-diabetic, numbness in my feet and now I appear to have an outbreak of shingles! My hands & forearms are covered in itchy blisters. Stretching & exercise seems to increase the cramping. All of my joints and muscles hurt all the time and are getting weaker. I’m going to start a Keto diet, hoping it helps.
Oh my goodness! I wish I knew Dr Berg years ago. I am so suffering from this for years of stress!! Thinking if I ate good and exercise it wouldn't affect me... Wrong!!
Hello Dr. Berg! Thank you for taking the time to thoroughly explain each subject you present! Your time is greatly appreciated! You seem to be very genuine and easy on the eyes too. ;) ;)
Dr. Berg, I'm an adrenal type but I've been doing alternate day fasting (with bone broth and grassfed butter on fasting days). Will this affect cortisol? I am taking long walks, and I am losing weight, and paying attention to eating really well on nonfasting days.
Dr Berg, for some reason the sleep aid supplement makes me more awake at night. What do I do? I'm doing well on the ketogenic diet, but I'm definitely having a difficult time falling asleep.
carbs are necessary for sleep...having low blood sugar triggers cortisol..Low blood sugar is the one prime reason for chronic elevated cortisol...40:40:20 is the best macro ratio...
Hello doctor i have sleep apnea and psoriasis and severe heart palpitations. What kind of supplements are best for me? I am taking Aswagandha tablets(Himalaya Aswagandha 250 mg only this one is available in my region) and Fish oil.
Gluconeogenesis stops disease and is healthy/preferred, but if there is sustained stress then the body needs glucose as it is faster than "fat" and so gluconeogenesis becomes dangerous as it will pull glucose out of anything necessary like muscle?
I have LOW CORTISOL, 3+ years of major physical & emotional stress 😢 COULD THIS HAVE CAUSED ME TO BECOME SENSITIVE TO SCENTS LIKE PERFUMES AND SOUNDS LIKE EVERYDAY NORMS AND TRAFFIC???? 😢
Dr. Berg - I am SOOOO at loss as to HOW to use my 'Neck & Back Self-Massage Tool'! You said to do accupressure on the adrenals - but I don't know how. Could you please advise. (I am 76, taking care of a 89 yr old husband, who has been on the verge of a major stroke for 6 mos now (has also had mini ones) and I am just finishing up a 'round' of the shingles.) I have been living a 'healthy' lifestyle up until this time, but have REALLY negelected that lately, and need to get back on track. I will, I promise! But your video just now made me realize that I am going down a 'slippery slope' if I don't do something about it NOW!
I swear by gardening, plant a tomato or flowers not mowing or weeding, for stress relief. It changed my health as much as Keto. . And you get sunshine. Walking is boring as Heck!
Don't know where I'd be without my morning and afternoon walks. Really helps me organize my thoughts/meditate as well as circulate the entire lymphatic system, increase mood, boosts metabolism/burns calories, boosts digestion etc. etc.
What about those who need stress? Also what about post rejuvenation of cortisol being the benefactor for improving overall function? Those are good videos. You just made me think of it?
Dr Berg, can R-lipoic acid help heal this issue. I have hashimotos most likely from losing many loved ones from 2008-2014. Ive started your D vitamin, and magnesium glyconate.
I have been suffer ing from this...I can't even feel my breath after work...chest can't expand. did all the yoga ....tried the acupressure nothing work on me...I can't sit and focus on my study simultaneously. I feel good only when I am lying down. chest shape become concave in left side and diaphragm come out of rib cage... I don't know how long I will live like this way.
One other comment. I’ve noticed, my muscle tone has now atrophy due to stress even though my exercising routine hasn’t changed. Can I ever rebuild my muscle mass again?
Is the stress respons always starting with the SAM-axis followed by the HPA-axis? Chronic stress is only based on too much cortisol. The SAM-axis is not needed!
More sleep heh, but when you're stressed about your job its difficult to sleep. I'll fall asleep okay but I'll sometimes wake up 2 hours before my intended wakeup time thinking about the workday ahead.
I am off to escape into stunning Nature!!.... Dr Berg, I don't think i have seen any video's for the benefits of Kiwi fruit & Red Watermelon my favourite fruits at the moment because of the warmer weather!? are they o.k. to consume on Keto?
Dr Berg, can longtime stess anxiety contribute to sudden indigestion/bloating. This happens to me every couple of weeks. I'm trying to eat slower but never had a problem before.
Take an hour long walk in the sunshine every day. 😂 Dear doctor, if a person has the time to take an hour long walk every day during the hours when the sun shines, and therefore also lives in a place where the sun shines every day, I can tell you: he doesn’t have chronic stress. 🤣
What's up Doc, I have hallux rigidus in both feet and will schedule surgery for next month. Foot doctor said, that one day I'll wake up and will not be able to walk..... I'm on the fasting and vinegar to lose a few lbs. the date. (47yrs.old & a cook/chef for 30yrs.) So I'm on my feet for hours. Do you have anything for hallux rigidus?
