This was recorded summer of 22, this video features the install of a Clark's corvair parts duel exhaust system on and early model (1964) Chevrolet Corvair Monza with 95hp. Enjoy the video!
I watched you buy the car and rebuild the engine ages ago, and I made some comments about certain things I saw done incorrectly. YT featured this video, so I watched it! Wow, your engine sounds great! Seems to have lots of power, no funny noises, and that new exhaust sounds good too! Glad to see you still working on this car, because it is a very nice Corvair, and I'll bet you love to drive it. two things, tho: the exhaust really should be hung from the engine, not the body. Second, not having lower shrouds is ok, but the sheet metal that holds the temperature doors should be re-installed. (The metal under the oil cooler and the distributor.) Not having those allows hot air from the engine to be drawn back in by the fan, and can result in overheating. You have a nice car, and it looks like you are making it even nicer! Good job!
It sure has been a while in the making, cool to hear you have been watching since then! To clarify I actually haven't rebuilt the motor, I've just done a head refresh, gaskets, and oversized head stud (reason why head came off. Oh and new piston rings.. lower shrouds are now on, broke a thermostat on one side so flapper doors are fixed horizontal.
just thought you should know, I've mostly used your videos on the repair of my 62' 700 and i got to drive her for the first time since I've owned it about a week ago, thanks for all the help and keep us all posted : ]
Great to hear! I originally started this channel because when I was just getting started on my Corvair, I would try and look up videos but had trouble finding any. Even tho there were informative corvair videos on RU-vid they didn't seem to show up for me. Anyways glad I can produce something that helps you to complete your Corvair!
Sounds and looks like the factory should have have done it that way. Had same set up on my 62. Really liked the way it sounded. Just loud enough. Went to single with turbo muffler on my 65. Doesn’t sound near as good plus it droans something awful. Duals bring out that corvair sound. Keep the Corvair content coming…..
It's been fun watching this car progress. Your videos have helped me on my '60 700 Sedan, although the '60s have some odd quirks unique to that year only lol.
Those narrow outlet pipes are the reason it isn't louder. You could cut those off and replace them w/ slightly larger diameter pipes and get more noise, if you really want it. They have a European sound, to me. I like them and have a set ready to put on my LM - w/ larger outlet pipes welded on. lol
Hey B. B. That sounds sweet with that dual trombone exhaust !!! If You need to do adjustment on the hangers in the future try hanging it onto the engine shrouding by just drilling a hole on each side of the shrouds, & run a bolt thru facing down , & it will move with the engine when it flexes ! & You can get them to hang evenly ! Man that sounds B.A. Thanks for the video ! & those 95 HP engines are pretty stout to begin with .
I'm surprised you aren't complaining about the engine overheating as you are missing the lower shrouds. Really got the stripping of the screw holes down tight at least LOL. Yes, mount to the engine and not the body. Why? Because the body and engine move separately from each other. I always wondered what that setup would sound like and it sounds great!
I agree with you, wish I knew what they would have sounded like. I thought the "loud" ones would be too much but I would have gotten them if I could return. Still a nicer exhaust system then what I had before and esthetically looks awesome than the single.
I’m sure you would agree that the Corvair is a quirky automobile especially for a company like Chevy. In that spirit that is why one day I suggest when it’s affordable going electric/ELECTROVAIR. Also handling and cornering would be improved. The goal with that car is to achieve 50/50 weight distribution, in spite of where motor or trunk is placed right?
