Just float a plastic container in your tank. Place a bubbler in the container and few drops of me blue and wait four days. After four days pour out bluish water add new tank water as the fry hatch. In a few more days move them into a bigger grow out tank

Thanks for the tips. This would be helpful for someone who wasn't expecting eggs and needed to improvise a set up for them right away. If you are planning ahead, you can get a hang-on-the- outside clear breeder box for about $22. They have an air tube which cycles tank water through, so no need for a heater or filter. I put a piece of indian almond(cattapa) leaf in when I put in the eggs, it usually sinks by the time the fry hatch. Better yet, I usually have leaves in the tank, so I can cut off a piece and drop in after the fry are swimming. I don't put it in sooner, because if eggs get under it, they get less oxygen. In this system, it doesn't affect water quality much, since new water is constantly coming in from the tank, but it gives fry a hiding place and also it is a good surface for biofilm and infusoria to live on, which feeds the babies when they are tiny. I never use methylene blue, usually a few eggs fungus, but they are probably damaged or infertile ones that wouldn't have hatched anyway. Right now I have about 60 cory paleatus, 50 gold lasers and 7 violet spot corys in this type of system. Good luck to you!

Hi Dave, I have 32 tanks, about 1000 gallons total. I breed corys, harlequin rasboras, and gold dojo loaches. Trying to do galaxy rasboras, kuhli loaches and rummy nose tetras. Do I breed for profit? Well, I wish. I sell to my local pet store, mostly for store credit, but I don't come any where near making a profit, lol.@@horizonfishkeeping

Thanks for the tips, mate :) I have been trying to breed my sterbai they are about 2.5 years old. I have 3 females, 4 males, and they refuse to breed. I do cold water changes feed the fresh bloodworm each day, and I have a small power head pointing to a spawning mop. They are in a tank on their own aswell still no luck :(

Try changing the food up frozen brine shrimp is ok and don’t water change till you no it will rain the next day corys are really sensitive to low pressure in the weather so feed heavy then watch the weather I us a weather app then the night before it rains do a 80% cool water change and should work let me no how you get on I would like to here about your progress good luck 😊

Thank you very much me too I’m sunny Yorkshire and it is always raining here that’s for sure good luck and let me no how you get on do you have a brine shrimp Hatcher or do you have any bits to make one live foods really help with breeding fish I do one day brine shrimp and one day blood worms or dry foods unless they are fry then it’s brine shrimp every day

@horizonfishkeeping no, I have never made up live brine shrimp. I usually breed American cichlids, so the fry eat powdered and crushed flakes. The brine shrimp eggs price have always put me off, bothering.

Don't you use Methelin Blue? If you add the leave now your to late it takes time to spread the tanins.
@horizonfishkeeping

Yes I use a tiny bit and leave the eggs in it for 24 hours and you are totally correct I would use an older established fry system it was more for demonstration purposes this would be set up in advance of the eggs been added 👍

Hay moe yeah all hatched out I now have about 30 panda Corydoras awesome little project I would use meth blue to hatch the eggs now the Indian almond leaf is good it works but meth blue really does work like 90% will hatch out rather thank 70/80% but worth a shot thanks for taking the time to watch and comment I really appreciate it

Thanks for the video, I'm going to set some like this up tomorrow as I found some eggs in my tank today. Out of interest, what happens if you just leave the eggs in the tank, would they survive?

You would always be best to set up a little tank even if it’s a bowl or some sort small container or tub Cory a do well at lower temps too so would probably get away with just air if the house is fairly warm leaving the eggs in will work but if you had say 5 eggs if the didn’t get eaten in the egg stage when they hatch they are very small and a small wiggly fish is an easy target for the parents to eat so if your want maximum results I would always pull the eggs and grow them up for a few week then return them to there tank you can float a small container on top of your tank that way they would stay at the same temperature as the main tank and run a small air line to it and is a peg to hold it there

@@horizonfishkeeping There are 9 endlers, 6 julii cory and 1 bristlenose. I've literally just set up a little filter, air stone and a heater in mop bucket on a deskin my spare room. whats the ideal temp? does it matter that its in a fairly dark room? do they need a little light too? and after i looked around a found 13 eggs. I've no ideal if they're healthy or not but ill see what happens.

Sounds good to me that I would water change it once every 2 days and use the adults tank water when they hatch keep it as shallow as you can so you can get food down to them without sticking loads in use first bites for a few weeks when you see them free swimming it’s a bit trial and error the first few goes but you will get it if the eggs are not white there good to go and don’t worry if this time fails if you have found eggs with corys they will sporn again and again check the day after water changes and do them a little cooler and they will sporn as for temp I just hatch the eggs at same temp as the adults tank as I float a container these days with a white bottom so I can see there progress but good luck 🤞 it’s mint when you get the first baby’s going and grow them up good luck

@@horizonfishkeeping Another question mate, you said if the eggs are not white they're good. I'm pretty sure when I collected the eggs they were white, after 24 hours in my makeshift hatchery they have turned a very pale brownish, they dont look like that clear white colour anymore. Is this a good thing?
