I have corys in all my tanks, except the goldfish tank. But one day I saw a small one, about two months, no idea he or she was around. Then one day i saw eggs on the glass and took them out in a separate tank. And suddenly I have 50 corys swimming around, After three months all 50 are still alive and well. I have a special cory tank and I always mix them with guppies (started with six and now over a hundred). Fact is also that corys can grow old, I keep fish for over thirty years now and some reach over 15 years (C.Paleatus). I also have my first goldfish (comet, feeder type)and he will become 30 years old this year.

Thanks for watching and commenting. We both have kept tanks since many years ago, since the times when corys used to be sold as 'garbage collectors', fortunatelly these ideas are evolving, now more people have them in groups and many people have specific tanks and even big facilities to breed the rarest species. I also had some very old C. paleatus. I brought them from an outside pond of a friend, they were huge and some of the males had stunning fins. Beautiful fish. These corys are great fish for any aquarist, for many kinds of tanks and for some ponds. I have seen your older Carassius, what an spectacle! I have a breeding line of single-tailed Shubunkins with high bodies and rusty colors since some years ago, I keep them in the biggest of my ponds and each summer the new fry are more beautiful so I'm very happy with them.

The exact same thing happened to me. i had 3 in my tank and then one day about 3 weeks ago, I noticed a 4th one that was about 1/3 of the size of the other 3. Based on this video, I would say it was well over a month old before I noticed it. I too have eggs on my aquarium, but I thought they were snail eggs. I have two nerite snails. Maybe they have been cory eggs all along?
@PetiteLicorne

How di you remove the cory eggs? How many liters or gallons is your goldfish tank? And how many do you have? I ask this, because many people are not well informed, and keep them in small tanks or bowl, and don't know they are very gregarious, they can't live alone.

Got about 2 days left before I see how many of my 25 or so Bronze Cory eggs hatch. Got lucky and was able to rescue this batch due to them being laid on a filter tube. Hi John, thank you very much for your kind words and opinion. Totally agree with you, I had them for two months and I would have liked to continue filming but I had to sell them. The lack of room is a problem for all of us with tanks. In this moments I have a couple of similar projects (I'm recording) but with very different species. I can't know if the final video will be ok for sharing because this kind of videos require many hours but maybe I'll share something with Pseudomugil luminatus (ex paskai) "Red Neon" -one year filming until now- and Thorichthys maculipinnis (ex ellioti) "Río Trinidad"-two months filming until now-. Thanks again for the comment and the positive feedback.

@CarlosDiezAquatics
@CarlosDiezAquatics 7 лет назад
About selling. From my experience, I think that selling fish can be very different in each place, town and country. Sometimes there are local webs for it, maybe some forums too. In the worst cases some people have to go to the local shops and make deals, this is not possible (illegal) in some countries. So this is a interesting but difficult to explain topic because it depends on many factors. However, I recomend you to take a look of the webs where you could easily find the aquarists of the place where you live.

I have fry that hatched a few days ago. I have about 15 eggs I saved and all but 2 survived this far. I have a separate little tank with a filter and heater, probably a 1 or 2 gallon tank... cleaned it and filled it with water from the main fish tank (same water iv used for water changes with the fry) and I put them in there hoping I wont need to do water changes anymore because of the filter. It's been 2 days and they are all still alive. Do you guys think they will live and won't need anymore special care ? Can I feed them regular cory food pellets? Also, for my other fish I have I keep some vinigar eels. Will they eat those ?

@seerking
@seerking 5 лет назад
For anyone else watching use a sponge filter, higher 70s farenheit temps like 75, 77, 79. Well oxygenated water, water changes at the very least 1 a week but id do 2-3 times a week, some do every day but you dont need to do that, you dont want to hinder your tank from cycling so 1-3 times a week is fine. Seachem prime, seachem stability if you realy realy want to go over kill, feed baby brine shrimp, egg yoke, micro worms, infusoria, fine powder fish flakes. Use a bare bottom tank, dont use a gravel cleaner to make the bottom of the tank too clean. You want them to find food and graze off of microscopic organisms and algae and food in detritus and worms, theres all sorts of food and life you cant see with your naked eye. Keep stable warm water temps stable instead of fluctuating. If the water is going to fluctuate try to minimize it by keeping a top on the tank and using higher temps around 79 degrees Fahrenheit. I likecto keep plants in all my tanks because there so benificial for many reasons, food , water parameters stability. These are my tips for raising cory fry and most fry.

I can never find their eggs! I also have nerite snails in my tank so I'm used to their white unfertilized eggs, so it is harder to spot the Cory ones. I'll have to keep a closer eye, I think the snails prefer to lay on the driftwood while the corydoras prefer the glass. Ever now and then when I'm doing a gravel vac I discover little baby panda corys!!! Always a nice surprise. I'd like to get into specifically breeding them for sale locally, so any advice is always appreciated!
@CarlosDiezAquatics
@CarlosDiezAquatics 6 лет назад
I good friend breed Panda corys and according to the info he gave me, C. panda are not the most productive Corydoras in terms of number of eggs but they are one of the easier ones and that should mean "easy money". Not to many useful advices as they breed normally. A good varied diet, live or frozen bloodworms are always a great choice. And maybe some play time with temperature after a stable period when you want to induce spawning.
@madcat61207
@madcat61207 4 года назад
Yeah, I would love my Pandas to breed! I would suggest a rock pile with plants like moss so the fry can hide out. I like the Nerite snails because they do not eat my Cory eggs. Also, in the wild I've heard they tend to put their eggs under leaves, so looking into leaf litter may be a good idea, especially since Indian Almond leaves, for one type, are known to have some good properties regarding the induction of spawning, lowering the ph (which is good for the hatching of eggs), and with antifungals lead to a fungus free environment for them to thrive in.

Hello,lovely video! I would love your advice on my Corydora eggs, I have two of each coreydoras in my heavily planted tank- bronze, albino and Venezuelan they have been laying eggs over the past week or so. I was going to leave them in the tank to see what happens naturally but I now think it would be better to maybe take the eggs out and put them in a separate tank as there is no sign of the first couple of batches .. Would an air stone be ok or should I get a sponge filter? And would they be ok without a heater? May sound silly but I'm unsure on what I should do and would really appreciate any help! 🐟🐟🐟☺
@CarlosDiezAquatics
@CarlosDiezAquatics 6 лет назад
Hi Lucy, thank you! Of course I will give you some advise. To leave the eggs in the tank is always very risky, almost everyone loves free caviar. I recomend you to separate the eggs in a small tank with an air stone and quality water. Nothing more is required but a bit of pacience is recommended. I'm pretty sure they'll be fine without heater, the normal temperature of our homes is right for them. As the fry grow you can add a small filter (not too much water flow) and/or more and more plants. I usually prefer the second choise but the two are ok, especially if the food doses are the proper ones. Remember to start feeding them after they have completelly absorbed their yolk sacs, not before. I hope that these little tips have been helpful. Good luck and enjoy the experience! 😊

I like to leave mine in. They do fine once the Corydoras learn to become good parents. Just make them comfortable (by having plants around, cover from light, cover for fry, leaf litter, scatterers etc) and provide cover for the fry and then have patience. But I minimize the number of tank mates that will eat the eggs and just put a few scatterers in so they know there are no predators around, and then feed plenty to minimize risk of eggs getting eaten.
@Castalia407
@Castalia407 6 лет назад
Thank you for the nice video! Could you tell me at what age is it possible to move the offspring in the tank with the parents, so they are not too small and not risk being eaten? Thank you!
@CarlosDiezAquatics
@CarlosDiezAquatics 6 лет назад
Thank you very much for watching, Castalia. If they eat quality food they can be quite developed at the age of one month and they can be able to find some food even if we move them to the tanks of the parents (depending on many factors). But as with any fish species, it's important to make sure the fry are receiving enough food to grow properly. Maybe some fry may survive if they stay from very soon with the parents, but the total number of thriving fry and the growth rates can't be compared to those of the fry living in their own tanks until they are fully developed.

One day my kids said uh Dad there are babies in your tank. . . Heavily planted never had a clue. 10 gallon. No other species - lots of rams horn and pond snails - always pretty generous with a wide variety of food and quite discilpined about water changes. Switched recently to an external filter so not sure if they would have survived that but there are at least three or four that made it. Such a pleasant surprise!

Hi Coffebug, thanks for watching! It may take a couple of days since their born but the time of each stage of development depends on temperature and other factors. You can see how they develop, they need to eat as they absorb their yolk sacs, that occurs when they move freelier. They are able to accept small live foods such as microworm or ground flakes at this stage. I hope you enjoy watching how these funny little cories grow!

Can cory eggsstill be kept in the same tank but just in a breeding box (it has a special layer for eggs) or should they be kept in a separate tank.
