I think it was the other way around... The "country singer" was running his mouth to LDSB, and Ben stood up for himself. Ben is an amazing songwriter and lyricist, and has definitely made his own path. He didn't say anything that was a lie to the guy.
@The Gypsy King you lost respect for him because he got into an argument?...youbwere obviously never a fan then because if that's allsnit takes I feel bad for your family or friends if they ever argue with you
@@11lance77 this video was recorded close to ten years ago.. lol. You should have more respect for him now that he has grown passed all of that. But whatever makes you feel righteous , I guesss
We all grow and learn from past mistakes. Well most do. And all ben did was stand up for what he loves, what he believes in, and what he lives for. The “cowboy” is clearly homophobic and Not worth wasting a breath on. Never back down from what you love though.
@@fatkidfrontflip exactly he Ben stood up for what he believes is right...if anything more respect should be earned just for that little display of defending what you love
@@11lance77 come on, Ben surely was a dick here, but everyone has his moments, and he was also young here... I wouldn't lose respect just because of this clip.
I mean....as cocky as Ben is being, he isn’t wrong. He has brought back that old bluegrass/country that comes from the heart. Albeit, he didn’t do it on his own, ofc there are other artists who helped but him and the Lost Dog Street Band are a huge factor in the resurgence of this kinda music.
@@thatdirtymichiganmusician1038 16 Horsepower has this kind of music from 1996 on. Avett Brothers etc. perhaps his bubble of fans came to it through him, I’ve got friends who were doing this same kind of stuff mid 2000s. He’s just a talented person in this space who has the advantage of easy to spread media.
@@williambrown1390 He used to be a lot more, back when he used to be a tramp. He does still come through and play but it's usually in a bar or some venue, not on the streets like he did when they were tramps. He ended up making the decision to focus more on being an artist than being a tramp, so unfortunately we won't catch them on the streets anymore. Sucks cause I would give about anything to have been able to or still be able to. To catch him there now, you'll just need to follow their Facebook page and stay updated on their tours. If you haven't seen them live yet, you need to ASAP!
Benjamin Tod is even famous in Germany. I bet, this "country singer" they even don't know in America. So whats his matter?! Greetings from Hamburg , I love this kind of music!!!
I hated this shit while hopping trains town to town just playing my music. People would hate on me for doing something I love when they worked a job they hated and hated there life so they took it out on folks to try to make themselves happier for a moment. He handled it so well too. Dude filmed it too hate on someone that makes way better music than he could ever lie about going through.
I sure hope the Ben whose music I love today has grown out of that sort of behavior. I far prefer him to commercial country, and I feel the same way about it he does, but telling a person you've never met about their life, and that you're a phenomenon, is pretty silly. I don't see the point.
No this guy was threatening him and got him riled up. This guy is evidently making a tv show and exploiting the soul of Nashville to do it and then threatens a street performer who goes train to train traveling the country to pour out his soul.
To be fair he didn't say he himself was a phenomenon. He said he was a dying phenomenon and all Wynn heard was "phenomenon" and totally missed his point. I can't disagree with Ben saying he's a dying phenomenon. Singer songwriters like him are a rare breed these days. Especially ones that write songs with meaning. I agree he may have lashed out a little but shit, I'd probably respond in a similar fashion to a guy writing shitty songs with Kellie Pickler
You owe your very existence in a fee world to those "boomers" , don't fucking disgrace those men by comparing them to that hunk of whale shit Wynn Varble. Only a hipster would be that retarded.
Idk man, boomers kinda took advantage of being raised in the best Era and ran it into the ground and left their kids and grandkids to struggle in the aftermath and blame them for all the world's troubles.
You mean like the guy from "Lost Dog Street Band"??? Cause he's as much "in costume" as anyone he would "call out". Everyone in this cringey interaction is fucking stupid.
yo ben, anyone can talk shit, but friend, seeing you live . I can tell ya , you are the real thing . and the music speaks loader then you ever could. A lost dog is way better then a lap dog ! OOOH . LOL.
Reminder since I’m seeing A LOT of arguments here about whether or not Ben was in the right here.... *THIS WAS FILMED ALMOST TEN YEARS AGO, when Ben was not in a good place in his life.*
Lost dog street band got me back into folk and country music , these fake ass britney spears ass "country pop" personas that the music industry have killed what REAL american folk music was. Ben is bringing it back
If it plays it pays, and if that seems wrong then WTF are you listening to country for anyways? Might as well listen to some commy pinko grunge emo music whining about what is wrong with the world and how it is not your fault!!.. Just Kiddn, I love Lost Dog too and it is very soulful music that moves my heart!
@@TheFrankwhite81 shit man no producer ever cared to show these guys to foreigners countries like they do with real mass songs like pop/rap/trap, I'm from Brazil and this guy taught me how to play and write something deep and meaningful and stay true to my roots. I even started to care more for my own culture, as I only listened to foreigner stuff. These guys are waaay above the market
Jon A. Agreed. But this does seem like a while ago I bet he’s done some maturing since then and may have a different take on how he would’ve gone about this interaction.
His attitude is his music. He’s the last dying flame of the American street culture outlaw country. If you don’t like that then he’s not the artist for you
Benjamin Todd is real dude! He called out the pandering County music! Real County music is Benjamin Todd. He can play with his head held hi and he does!!!
yeah I dunno who started it but it's clear that Wynn Varble escalates the situation by first telling Benjamin that he's going to "mash his nose," and when Ben dares him to do it, Wynn replies that Ben would "like to get some of that Brad Paisely money" instead... it should be noted that the highlight of Wynn Varble's career is co-writing 3 songs which reached the American Country Music charts #1 position; a single by Darryl Worley, a single by Easton Corbin, and a single by Brad Paisley... it should also be noted that Wynn shared these writing credits with at least 4 or 5 other co-writers... so when you start to break down the likely payouts he received, divided among the contributors, it sounds like Mr. Varble himself would ALSO love to get some of that Brad Paisely money because he's got nickles and dimes to compare it to... his outburst is little more than a self-fulfilling revelation of his own shortcomings and inability to become well known or famous on his own merits... something that Benjamin Todd is actually fulfilling every single day by raking up MILLIONS of youtube views for his own original material; none of which has ever been bought and recorded by sellout corporate country radio shill... point to Benjamin Todd. Wynn Varble is in way over his head. but hey, that's most Boomers to be honest.
Not sure what had happened here so can't really judge either side...That being said i just checked out Wynne Varble and his music is absolutely garbage!
Can see the real Vs the fake, just like you can see night, and day! Lol these corporate artists can get fukked.. good on you Ben, now back to real music my friends.
This is the best putdown I've ever seen since Good Will Hunting gave it to that college boy at the bar. But that was scripted. This was Benjamin Tod the real deal.
never heard of Dwayne Marbles... stumbled upon the LDSB a few days ago, and felt the authenticity. It rang so true, it felt incredible. This clip of laying into some yokel is punk AF. Kudos.
Everyone shit talking needs to remember he was still a kid in this. Going through this phase and learning to get his ego in check is part of what makes his music good. This isn’t the same guy that’s around these days.
Shit, he should get knocked out for the hipster garbage he's been making recently. Let alone this little tantrum against singer with less urban clout than he has.
oh fuck, you got offended because "country" music you like is about nascar, beer, whiskey, trucks, big fucking hats and partying all day? And anything besides that is hippie? Gtfo
I think they were BOTH wrong here. Ben saying that guy was a fake cos of how he was dressed. And telling him how he never went through anything in life. But it also seems to me that maybe this "cowboy" most likely started the drama.
Well to be fair that guys music is f*cking terrible and it is fake, written by random songwriters, just a guy with a twang wanting to cash in on the all that good country money.
Ben took his own advice and left Nashville and has became successful best thing he ever did and better yet he moved to my hometown where he’s actually appreciated 🤙🏽 I support ya man!
Nack The Sack Sorry still doesn't ring any bells . co written so he hasn't written a song by himself . Chart topping hits what charts are you talking about ??? 4 or 5 different writers. any that we would know . There is a difference between a made artist and a artist . And as I see it Ben is a artist not a made artist .✌
@@dragon291000 He had a number 1 song he co-wrote with Brad Paisley and another he co-wrote with (lol) Kellie Pickler. Listened to them both, neither very good. Ben, however, has written dozens of songs that are all number 1 hits in my heart.
@@ckbd19 Thanks Nick never heard of him before this video . So I checked him out . he didn't impress me at all but Ben on the other hand and The Lost Dog Street Band I've been listening to for a while real down to earth people and music
I love Ben's music. Solid dude who is true to himself and those in his circle. Respect. This argument .. not needed. The random guy is just some punk. Ben got caught in moment and probably a bit embarrassed so his emotions went. We all say dumb shit when we are upset or angry. Kudos to him for not throwing hands. Personally , once he threatened to hit me I'd of been like game on bro. End of the day.. Ben should of just ignored the idiot. But it's always easy being on the outside looking in. Edit: on mobile sorry for typos
Yeah, I get what you mean. But at this stage Ben must've felt at this stage that everybody apart from him was getting a piece of the Nashville pie. Whilst he was putting into it in the old tradition of train hopping, addictions and living your songs every day and we both know Nashville 'suits' don't like like anything too 'real' a push. So Ben just soldiered on he found a way in the end. I just find it funny how young he looks 'Baby rBen.😇. He's certainly grown into himself now both in maturity and size. When I was younger and still busking every day for my few bucks for maybe some food, definitely a bottle. I took myself very seriously too! Thank fuck there wasn't as many phones around back then!🤐. All the best man.
For everyone saying they lost respect over a ten year old video let me ask.....did you dress the same as you do now ten years ago? Do you have the same outlook on life as you did ten years ago? Did your likes and dislikes stay the same as they were ten years ago? And to say you lost respect because someone was in an argument or came off as an asshole is a joke. Most musicians are opiniated assholes hate to say it but does it make their music any worse? Grow up.
Some of y'all have never suffered from addiction or BEN close to someone who has and it shows. I not once thought Benjamin Tod was out of line. If I was there I would have joined him. LDSB saved my life because it spoke my life. I never met them or BEN to a show but we run in the same pack. 🐾
@@user-qt5eh9wb7g Your reading it all wrong. I think that if you aren't proud of someone overcoming any obstacle of difficulty then there's something wrong with you bro. I don't know your experience with addiction so I can't say it sounds like you don't know what a full blown heroin addict goes through. ..but let me tell you it's a fucking great feeling to have control over something that was literally going to kill you. And something tells me you wouldn't say this to Me or Benjamin Tod to our face ...but I get it...you have your own feelings and thoughts and though some may not be right it's who you are. I'm curious as to why you think that way..ain't nothing wrong with being proud of yourself for accomplishing something that is very important to you and everyone that loves you. Good luck sir.
@@user-qt5eh9wb7g Are you a fan of LDSB ? Are you ashamed that you suffered from addiction? Am I supposed to be ashamed of myself because I am clean? I am pretty humbled by it honestly. Benjamin Tod you are my hero. A true Country Boy a true musician. Big fan love your work. Just know there will always be "Cowboys in glitter" Lol you are a soldier he's the Hollywood actor that pretended to be a soldier in a movie Once.
I first learned about Lost Dog when they opened for Devil Makes Three. Within the first verse of the first song I could tell Benjamin Tod was the real deal. His voice is so powerful and soulful. I spend lots of days listening to him at work. I also enjoy the fun goofy lyrics of Brad Paisley. Benjamin has more songs I can relate to then Paisley but I still like to smile and laugh at songs too. I had an abusive family and we haven’t spoken in 18 years and for 10 years before that. I lived out of a car for 8 months and had other hard times but I wouldn’t call out this other country guy like Benjamin because I don’t know his story. If Benjamin met me he might judge me the same way by my clothes. I wear designer jeans and shirts from any of the microbreweries I’ve been too. Just because I had those dark points doesn’t mean I or anyone else needs to stay there. I have a great job and finally enjoy life a lot more after getting out of the shadows so to speak. Having said that, I still can relate and feel something deeper from a Lost Dog song than a Paisley song.
As cocky as Ben is being, every word is so true... his talent resides in the life hes lived, not out of a pocket book to be blasted on a tv merely for the fame... theres so much more depth in his work.
Ignorance and stupidity never cease to amaze me.. Our country's music would never be what it is with out young men like Mr. Tod.. True warriors pounding our streets, not to be rich.. Free!!
...sounds like Wynn Varble {who once wrote a song fo Brad Paisley (who sucks)} tried to Film the Lost Dog Street Band...and lost dog Ben was growling and showing his teeth...
It's rare to see people praise self righteous hipsters who pose as cowboys, for confronting some small time song writer for filming them on a street, while they are wearing the same clothes I imagine Brad paisley would wear on a date as a prostitute after a lengthy heroine addiction.
@@boiledfrogsissex i was just trying to use that to relay how much more well known he is now, not that the guy would actually drawn and quartered, poor comparison on my part
Brendan Garry it’s not dumb at all, maybe a little bit over exaggerated but not dumb. Ben is so well known nowadays and has touched so many people with his soulful music I guarantee people would of had his back on this. He’s 10x more real that that dip ass in the cowboy hat could ever dream of being
I’d really like to think that guy had enough humility to stick around for just one song. Because one song, and you are hooked. Ben is undeniable. Love him or hate him, that music is a baited hook floating in murky water... You’re gonna bite. I happen to love this dude. Never met him, but from his lyrics, we are one and the same.
I still think "modern" radio country is a disgrace to the origins of country/bluegrass/folk. If Guy Clark, Hank or any other legendary country artist heard this pop country bs they would be disappointed. Not all artists but the majority. Who wants rap pop and hip hop soiling good music?
Allen Glass the reason they’re referring to “Brad Paisley money” is because the fellow in the cowboy hat wrote a couple of Paisleys songs. I’m a fan of Paisley as a guitar player but his songwriting is trash.
if i could meet benjamin todd and the lost dog street band one day would mean the world man. they get me through tough times and the music is real bout as real as it get. your a gem bro and keep doin what your doin
The title is misleading , the wannabe cowboy is the the the one confronting them , no video of what started the argument , but you can bet ole rhinestone said something ignorant
wyrdjoy can’t argue with that but his background is legit the man was just wondering around strung out so he probably took offense to whatever that guy said to him. The fedora definitely gave me the hipster vibe
@@LandonAshworthDirects right?! How dare they ruin the songs i like of theirs. Such a disappointment. Cant even be man enough to acknowledge theyre both artists dealing with two facets of one industry and its neither person's doing.

Ben you are truly better than this guy. He writes songs for a living and you sing & write them. Your songs get me through some tough times deployed.... keep making music buddy.
To all the people claiming they "lost respect" for Ben , or had other negative shit to say, this video was nearly 10+ years. Lmao. If seeing where someone came from, and where they are today, makes you lose respect then I promise that no one with any measurable amount of human decency is looking to earn your respect lol.
10+ years and Ben has covered himself with neck tattoos, and I would speculate that some of his songs are not based on his personal life experiences. This video just turned me off of his music because I can see who he used to be and compare it to a fake person that we see today.
@@pearsonpaintauto3457 hmm interesting point, to me I like his music because it speaks to me, not because of the way he is dressed. I would have lost respect for him, but his music is so good, and refreshing. I feel like he represents the downtrodden young people of the county. The ones who have to work at Wal-Mart, because there are no good jobs anymore, or they are hard to get. All the poor people whos parents had drugs shoved down their throats by doctors, and got sucked into a life of drug addiction. I know thats what I think, but i get what your saying. I don't know I guess ill just have to wait and see what happens in the next few years.
@@pearsonpaintauto3457 Who cares what kind of person he is. A musician should be based on his music and nothing else. Benjamins songs and lyrics are really good and that's the only thing that counts for me. A musicians do music. I don't care if he's an asshole or not as long as he's good. By your logic no one should listen to Kiss since Gene simmons is a dickhead. But that does not change the fact that the music is still awesome.
@@VHS_NEON my logic? You have a video of Benjamin Tod from over 10 years ago here, and he's calling a guy out for being fake. Since this video was taken, Benjamin has had inmate numbers tatted on his neck (probably numbers from a night in county), and he has dropped the suspenders for cutoffs. That's my logic, and that shows how fake he has become.
@@pearsonpaintauto3457 So what? Thast does not change the fact that his music is great. And this video is 10 years old. People change in 10 years. An by the way, sometimes people get tattoos just because they like the look of them. Not because they actually want to say that the are former inmates.
