If it wasn't for Benjamin Todd / lost dog street band i wouldn't be alive. His music has allowed my conscious and subconscious to meet and heal together. Thank you for covering him.
Man I clicked as soon as this popped up I'm beyond thrilled you finally did a Benjamin Todd song he is an incredible lyricist with a very unique voice he deserves as much attention as he can get. Welcome to the rabbit hole Michael lmao he had/has a band too called lost dog street band their pretty bad ass as well
I love how, once you discovered this kind of artists (Colter Wall, Tyler Childers, Sierra Ferrell...) you can't get enough of them! Benjamin is one of my personal favourites, and when your video poped up in my feed... man, you can't imagine the smile on my face! This musicians are saving country music!
Damn that's a song worth sharing. The dog, the boots, the lyrics, the yodeling, the everything. Please do itL: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3I7ME1oacMA.html
Gems on VHS is a national treasure. Ben, LDSB, Sierra Ferrell, Josh Okeefe, the list goes on of the amazing content they have. Keep up the great work Michael man! Love these videos too
For context, Benjamin is a recovering addict and Nicholas ridout was his best friend who unfortunately took his own life in 2013. Tod sings lots of Nicholas's songs and writes about him a lot. This guy is with out a doubt the greatest song writer of this generation and probably the previous
This man's whole life and story is a true modern monolith. He is a flickering light of an old soul, and his music rattles the bones of anyone who has an open heart and an open ear.
He does not have a track with a fault because you can feel that he pours whole portions of himself in them , and that's thr music this world desperately needs.
I'm going through some difficult times in life right now and Benjamin has got me through the last two months. As always great video and as always great artist choice
Skinny Rogers haha you’re the first person who’s actually got my username reference. People like “whys ur name Alice and you’re a guy?” Smh. Take it easy bro and keep on keepin on
Benjamin Todd is one of my favorite artists of all time. His two solo albums and three albums with lost dog street band are all fantastic. He can't make a bad song. They all hit the soul
Unbelievable artist, I swear His Song The War Inside Of Me was written about me. Word for word. I imagine anyone who has heard the song and struggles with addiction and all the bullshit that goes with it would fell the same. Deep Dude.
. Let’s just name a few other artists muscadine bloodline ,Tyler Childers , Jason , Eady (cry pretty) and judgement day and this old guitar and me , Jason Moreland , Benjamin Todd, using again , colter wall , Jason Isbell , Jason Boland ,Zane Williams , Cody jinks , sturgil Simpson , Josh grider( price of a dream ) just to name a few ... I’m forgetting dozens of others
This is long overdue! I don't listen to really any other music like this but I've been hooked on Benjamin Todd since I first saw this video on GemsONVHS and still can't get enough. Keep it up!
Awesome, thank you! Another artist to add to my playlist. This channel is the gift that keeps on giving: it started with Snarky Puppy, then Tyler Childers, Shakey Graves and many more. Along the way I learned about Townes van Zandt. Every time I listen to one of his songs it seems there is another layer to ponder over. He sure knew how to tell a story. If you ever get around to doing one of his songs.....
I started playing Townes "Lungs" the other day. OUCH! It's a little too on point for this moment in time. Won't be able to play it live for a while, I reckon.
Love this guy. One of my favorite song writers out right now. Your killing it lately. Hitting my favorites like you've seen my playlist. Keep em coming brother.
Never heard this guy but damn. Hard not to feel a song like that. This gives me Childers vibes with the way he pours out his soul into every lyric. Unbelievably good.
Love your channel Michael and appreciate your reaction. This song is the “after” when he’s cleaning up his life. Even if you don’t react to it, go watch the “before” called Using Again and you’ll see how far he’s come from the depths. This guy is just talent and artist. And yes Gems is an awesome channel. Glad you found it and recommended it.
Ben Todd gives me chills. A true artist expressing what a lot of us go through in a way that's depressing yet beautiful. Nice to see someone else react the same as sometimes when I watch his stuff I'm confused, not only about what he's saying but about myself.
Benjamin Tod and The Lost Dog Street Band is the reason I got back into folk music. GemsonVHS is also phenomenal channel and deserves everyone's support.
He’s been my favorite artist for years , listen to him religiously. Nicholas was his best friend who committed suicide. What keeps me up now he just released it’s a great song.
Dude how do you make me hear the message to music. It's crazy... I've listened to this song countless times now and watching you react pulls it all together so well. Thanks!!
When I'm done with this whole getting a job thing, I'm going to take your courses. I've been playing guitar since I was 4 and love music theory. Love these videos. Thanks for being such a great inspiration and personality.
Benjamin Todd means so much, to so many people, because there are a lot of people out here that are lost he helps us find the light. Definitely has helped me in getting sober and to become a better person. I I love the analogy that you made about running towards things instead of running away from things that was great brother thank you so 🙏
Just stumbled upon your page a week ago, amazing stuff. Look forward going down these journeys with you discovering new artist and their amazing music.
It's crazy. I could tell that everything you said was from the heart and based on tangible feelings from this song. what's crazy to me is that they feelings you got, are completely different then the ones i got. Meaning what you think he is writing about is completely different than what i was "sure" he was writing about. I think that means that he knows how to write a damn good song. It's not easy for me to admit, but Ben brings me to my knees emotionally.
We played Follow You to Virgie at my grandmother's funeral. My wife told me a few days ago my 6 year old starts off every day by pulling it up on RU-vid. She makes me get my guitar out and sing it to her sometimes. There are so many incredible musicians out there right now. What a redeeming quality of the internet. Sharing a part of someone's soul. Hearing a song and thinking, they could've written that about my life too...
Huge fan of Benjamin Tod and The Lost Dog Street Band, but even more than that I enjoyed your personal anecdote at the end. Keep up the great videos, man. I love all of the Gemsonvhs videos so I hope you keep going through that catalog.
This has been my favorite video you’ve done, I love Ben & gems. It was nice to hear some personal stories. Also the guitar at the beginning was fantastic. Thank you.
Ben is easily imo one of the greatest singer songwriter storyteller of my generation I hope in the near future he starts getting the recognition he rightfully deserves His songs saves lives my life included
The neck tat 03011 is the hobo zipcode. Also reading it backwards, 11030, and taking the 11 as an H and the 0 as Os and the 3 as a B it spells HOBO too. Thanks so much for doing a Tod video!
I don’t know anything about playing guitar and I don’t know if I aspire to play. These videos, however, are always real and the sentiment comes from a real place. That’s lead me to be introduced to some great new music by watching and I appreciate that. Thank you.
I knew you were going to be my favorite reactor. Once you go down the Benjamin Todd rabbit hole it’s hard to get out brother. He’s one of my favorite artists ever.
Love it that you said “wanna move toward things and not away from “. That’s where I’m at today as well. I appreciate your video and view on the song and lyrics.
If you have a brother that is an addict you will personally feel the pain for Using Again by Benjamin Tod. What a gut wrenching song. Great video by the way.
God speed with your brother. Family support and patience was everything getting me on methadone and pulling my life back together. I didn't want help right away, but ultimately it was patience and support that got me there when I was ready.
Love what you do! just learning to play been at it about a year, I’m getting better slowly. I’ve found so many good songs through your channel and I love your take on all of It.
You drew from your own personal experience and this is why this music is so amazing. If you research what this songs about it's extremely tragic, but it's even more amazing brought on by the years he did on the street addicted to drugs. Me and him share a very similar story. I started really listening to him when I was on the tail end of my heroin/fentanyl/cocaine addiction. I was on the street, and literally slept on the steps to a rehab in hopes I was able to get in. My day came after about 2 weeks of this. Well, I got into recovery and just happened to start listening to him again. I got kicked out of my group home for sticking up for a guy that was being sexually abused by another person. But through thick and thin I was able to stay in recovery and not touch another drug. I got into a homeless shelter in Cincinnati and stuck to myself and my program. God gave me the strength to keep pushing and here I am 6/7 years later. I never thought I'd make it years let alone be able to forget how long it's been. Much love
Lost dog came into my life in such a hard time. I was in the middle of separating from my babies momma and my dad was so sick from lung cancer and ended up passing away. Ben and the lost dog most definitely help those times pass and my mind from insanity. I'm married to a wonderful woman now and my son is most precious. Thank you so much.
So happy to see that Benjamin Tod is getting more and more recognition. He's an amazing guy and very talented artist. His music comes from living day to day and all of his experiences. Thank you for showcasing him. Enjoyed watching your reaction and hearing your thoughts about him and his music..
Wow great video mike. Easily one of my favorites on your channel. You said a lot of really real things. I was addicted to heroin for about 10 years and finally got clean about three years ago. I know how rough that had to be on my family. People change, things always get better and life goes on. Hope to see a lot more content. Thanks!!
YES! Excellent choice of a song by Benjamin Tod. Let me add another vote for 'Using Again' and throw in his latest 'End With You'. Two very different outlooks on life in these two songs.
