OMG, you commented on my ggg-grandma's photo! Very cool. Thank you! I love seeing everyone's ancestral photos. The one painting with two different ancestors is really unique! Wow!

The oldest photo I have was from my 3rd great garnadparents one born 1799-1800, the other 1801....taken in 1850 when the emigrated from Ireland to Canada. They had a photo taken for family before the left Cavan Co. Ireland.

That's so lovely. I also have a photo of my Ireland to Canada 4th ggrandfather, taken about 1850 as well. I was surprised to find it, as I'm not sure how much photos would have cost at that time and it seems a luxury for what I understand their financial state was.

My husband has pictures of two 4xgreat-grandfathers (although not the originals). One is an oil painting, the other was a photo on a business advertisement in England. Both men were born in the 1760's.

I have a photo album of ancestors on my paternal line from the 1700's, names and relationships are lost sadly. It's crazy how strong the resemblances are to my siblings and I to these ancestors!

I found an image of a painting of a woman, from the 1700's, with the same last maiden name as my Mother's Aunt, who was born in 1906. It actually looks just like my favorite Great Aunt, all the way down to her hair color and the smirk on her lips. In a photo from about 1919 or 1920, I have a photo of the oldest relative so far, my Grandmother's Dad. He might have been born around 1870 or so.

Me too. I've always found it pretty neat when we're told these kinds of things, & even more fascinating when we're able to prove them, too. For instance, my Mom was told as a kid that she was related to both PMs of Canada: Jean Chretien, & Pierre Trudeau. Well, I've always believed her, as my grandparents weren't the lying type or exaggerating type of people. Neither one of them. They were both pretty dead on with what they told you, & I was finally able to prove that to my Mom, too. I was able to link her mother's paternal Gelinas line from her ancestor, Elie The Jew (or Le Juif in french) Juiellineau to both my Grandma, Jeanne Ann Marie Gelinas, as well as Jean Chretien (born Joseph Jacques Jean Chretien). Which was pretty cool. I haven't linked Pierre to her yet, but, am getting pretty close to though. For years, my Grandpa told my Mom that we had Irish in us as well, & was pretty happy when I was able to finally find out that it was his ancestor, Margaret Donnelly who married Samuel Pack, that was born & raised in Ireland. Once again, my maternal grandparents were dead on about their family. Pretty neat that they knew that much, actually. I've always loved a challenge, & problem solving too; with Math always being my best & favorite subject in school. Between that, & always having a love for wanting to know as much about myself as possible, & where I got what traits, etc... From, it makes doing genealogy an impossible thong to live without. For me, anyways. I'm way too curious of a person, & love learning something new everyday, way too much to not do this kind of thing. Genealogy teaches us all a lot about ourselves, where we're all from, why we are who, what, & the way that we are, & tons more. There's always a lot to gain by knowing this & doing to work to find it too. Take care & all the best to everybody. :)

The last comment was super helpful! I’ve been poking around some of the more distant cousins to see if I could confirm family lore about our history and I’ll have to make sure to take a look at the specific segments to figure out what’s up. I have a feeling it’s going to be a lot of identical by state rather than by descent, but it’ll be good to know regardless!

I think the first poster was confused that there was no "Western Slavic" vs Eastern Slavic but I agree with you. Russia can mean a LOT depending on the time period. The Scandinavian is pretty interesting but I imagine with heritage from Poland/Northern Russian, that isn't so weird. I thought the mysterious Scandanavian was from the family with the grandmother who immigrated in WWI... the mysterious sperm donor being on the other side of the family. That's where the Indian comes from I bet. I feel like a lot got lost in translation with this post.

I’d have to check the photo albums that we have, but I know that I have some pics of my 3X great grandparents. I think even a few of my 4x might be in there, too.

The oldest photos I have of direct ancestors are from circa 1887, of my 4th great-grandfather, born circa 1827, and 4th great-grandmother, born circa 1836. I only saw these photos when researching my family tree on Ancestry, and distant cousins of mine uploaded photos of them. I also have a photo of a 5th great-granduncle of mine that was taken in the 1880s, he was born in 1821. Again, uploaded by a distant cousin to Ancestry.

Hey Jarrett, I've been doing videos surrounding my DNA results with numerous DNA companies, though still have to cover my MyHeritage results. Once I do that video, would you be up for analysing my results in a video? Thank you.
