I'm not sure if anyone picked up on this but I would say that heartbeat did not look as if it was racing or indicating the beast was in distress so you having this cow in a totally un natural position in a machine that basically floats the animal and then to work on an injury that is no doubt painful without this cow being distressed really is a credit to your way of working. I am fat from being a mystic or even believing in all that stuff but I do now that being calming is extreamly contagious and your action and your way with the animals prove this, and us seeing this cows heart beat in the situation I mentioned is proof. Your attitude and your want to remove pain and discomfort from these animals must be able to be picked up by the cows, its not about how many cows you can get through in a day and more about how many you can help in a day. Well done and its good to see someone care more about something else rather than themselves or their bank account. A glimmer of humility in these troubling times we are in.

Me one month ago : “Oh how nice, cows in the field” Me now : “that cow looks to be favouring one foot over the other, potentially a white line lesion with some digital dermatitis causing it some pain”
I realised meanwhile peeled potatoes that when I detect a dark spot I just peel off a layer to get rid of it like in hoof trimming the loose horn 🤦🏼♀️😂 I grew up around cows and never ever tought of it..
It never ceases to amaze me as to how extensive the damage to the hoof is. What I mean is what appears to be a small defect from the exterior is so much more after you trim the loose horn back. Greetings from the NJ Bayshore.
I'm so glad that you spray the hoof right away. The reason being, as evidenced in the heart beat and blood pumping out of the hoof, is that the germs, bacteria, etc is getting air instantly and could enter the blood stream BUT, Nate, the Gentle Hoof Guy, immediately sprays the open area with the anti-germ/bacteria spray which helps to prevent it from proliferating. Some hoof guys don't spray until the end when they are ready to wrap up the hoof. I think that is waiting too long. Every second counts when you are preventing the bad stuff from entering the blood stream. Nate, could cows get sepsis from the infections?
Retired vet tech here, not Nate, but yes, livestock can get sepsis from hoof infections. I don't know of any published evidence that waiting to spray Clorhex rather than spraying it as quickly as Nate reduces infections, but it's nice to see someone being so liberal with the Clorhex ( you have no idea how expensive that stuff is ) and using it as generously as Nate absolutely helps prevent infections.
I love watching Nate's video n one day ventured into another similar channel Hoof GP but when I watched him doing the hoof, I couldn't continue watching it without cringing.. he did it in a very inhumane way it looked like it hurts so bad.. realised my mistake n came back to watching Nate's video again.. now I m his loyal viewer..and don't cheat anymore
@@ShG2022 I watch a few different hoof channels, including the Hoof GP and the Midwestern Hoof Guy... I haven't seen any of them be inappropriate or hurtful to the cows or bulls. I do think that Nate is super caring and gentle - a bit more than the other two but they are all caring and professional hoof folks.

I’m a relatively new subscriber but I have been addicted to these videos ever since RU-vid recommended the first one. In a world with so much negativity, these videos are literally a stress relief for so many. Seeing you guys (Aaron and Graeme too) help these cows is fascinating. Thank you for what you do!!

I can imagine the pain she felt. Had phantom spasms from my teen years, followed by an AHHH! When that rock came out. Cow left happy, and moving nicely. Always a pleasure admiring your work.

That was a large vessel that the stone punctured. Great editing & videoing, you could see the exudate oozing around the stone. It was cool to see how quickly she clotted after you removed the stone & began cleaning the area w/ chlorahexadine. Thanks for the video Nate!

When you were spraying the wound what is the stuff that comes out of it? It looks like blood clots or packed debris perhaps? Ive noticed it on a few videos now and was wondering about it. I like your videos the most so far as you do your best not to cause bleeding. There are a few hoof tubers out there that always seem to be in a rush and cause the cows pain with their rough treatment. They seem to be focused on moody music or comedic chatter and I don't understand the need for either, ah well what do I know. Keep it up Nate!
It looks like a thin layer of blood clot that had formed over the injury. Kind of like a floppy scab. Not an expert by any means, but that's how it looked to me.
@@IAmBuddythedecibwave I would make sense that a bloodclot would remain soft and flexible as it would be unable to dry out and harden due to being trapped under the stone and in the hoof-capsule

I was talking to my lifelong friend last weekend about watching these videos. He got a chuckle because he was a farm kid and had watched his father do this sort of work when theirs was a Dairy farm. The thing I remarked about, and he wholeheartedly agreed, was the incredible funk coming from the wounded claw. I mean, you get used to the smell of cow crap everywhere after a while, but that puss squirting out... super stinky.
I step on a broken snaple bottle in the dark as a teen it almost severed my right big toe and seeing that rock get pulled out made me cring and my toe have a phantom pain.
Oof. I stepped on a shard of glass in the dark as a teen too. It was shaped like an icicle about 3 inches long. It stuck in my big toe bone and I couldnt pull it out cuz it was stuck so deep in the bone and the part sticking out snapped off at my skin. I had to go to the emergency clinic so they could get it out and make sure there was no shards left over. I feel your pain and this cows pain too.

Watching your videos has opened to me and others the world of Dairy farming. It is so much more complicated than one would expect. My respect for all those involved has grown significantly and when I purchase dairy items I no longer look at them in the same way. Thank you for the great videos they are both entertaining and educating.

I could tell how much pain this girl must've been in the second you showed the hoof with the rock in it the amount of pus that you could see around the rock said it all Thank you for bringing this girls pain to a much much much more tolerable level, and for making it so hopefully that pain is gone for good in a few hours 💕

The shaved hoof is really pretty. The shavings really show it, but when Nate moved the camera close up to the hoof itself you can see how translucent the hoof material is. It almost has a kind of faint opalescent or shell-like glimmer. I never thought I would appreciate a hoof for aesthetics!
One thing I’ve noticed that I appreciate is that while your cutting you brace on the foot with your left hand and almost whittle away at the hoof. If I ever did this I think I would use this technique. I notice other hoof trimmers I’ve seen on RU-vid Almost tear away with the knife and cut fast. You seem more controlled and methodical. Love the vids. Keep it up.
I realized when watching this video that my mouth was agape the entire time. I've never lived on a farm so these are things I had no idea that people had to worry about. I wish I had a life where I could use this sentence "I can't the hoof guy is coming today and I need to get the cattle ready"
