I've taught this for a number of years as a preemptive strike followed up with a flurry of follow up punches. Nice to know that I was on the right track in my mindset.
I got another one, if you're on your back trying to put someone in a triangle choke in a self-defense situation and they're resisting, you can jab the eye and you may get them distracted for the opportunity to finish your submission
Goodness gracious, all this “what if” junk based on super liberal places like NYC and California. Craig Douglas is THE man and I am definitely gonna listen more to him than base my self defense on what lawyers do in super liberal locations. Mess with or threaten my family and liberal lawyers aren’t what I’m thinking about. Better to battle an idiot lawyer than bury a family member.
I have the utmost respect for Craig Douglas and his experience. However, if you aren't law enforcement, don't do this. I have a personal experience where an assailant was verbally threatening myself, my wife, and my infant child in NYC. He verbally threatened violence towards me and my family and when he closed in with fist raised I maced him (with legally possessed mace under the % OC that NYC stipulates) and called 911. Guess who ended up in handcuffs? Me. I spent months of uncertainty and thousands of dollars in legal fees to get this arrest off of my record for following advice like this. True story. Now I understand NYC is at the extreme end of the spectrum when it comes to self defense laws. I'm sure that if this happened in my home state of SC that the officer would have taken my statement and shook my hand before hauling the other guy off to jail. But this video can't be taken as universal advice.
So what you are saying is that you should have waited for that guy to attack your family first? I'd say you made the right decision regardless of the troubles you incurred after the fact. I'm glad you were able to have it made right.

I hate that happened to you but ANY time someone even hints aggression towards my wife/kids/loved ones then it’s beast mode and they are gonna catch hell.
