I've had a couple Ford's they were ok but Dodge is the truck you play hell with the distributor cap for sure mines a 3500 4 wd just to get into the engine bay is a pain but worth it great video Thanks
I'm with you as far as Dodge being a pile of crap 😂 I got a 97 Dodge ram 1500 with a 5.9 Magnum that's been electronic nightmare. It's got 200,000 miles and right now I believe my problem is the ECM. Love your video keep up the good work 👍☮️🇺🇲
Pull air filter out the way! Label old plug wires peice of clear tape and sharpie. Leave them plugged into cap when you remove. Put all wires on new cap same way as old one. Pretty easy.
If I remember correctly the screw slot of hex head of cap was stripped. I just waited until I had the truck more tore apart later. It's going to be very tore apart soon.
Only had to rebuild transmission on mine cuz of stupid check valve ball about the size of a pee. Mechanic did away with it, barely any delay burning out from reverse to first. It has over 380,000 miles on it. Replaced front end ball joints a-fram etc. Can't kill the mofo. 318. Good drifter for a one wheel wonder. Just saying
@@jessejohns9201 idk man, I'm at 190k on my 318 and the motor is in the process of self destructing. I've had some very reliable ford's. I'm actually a Ford guy, I just drive that Dodge because I picked it up cheap and it has no rust on it. It's rare for a 25 yo truck in the east coast. A limited slip would do the truck wonders though.
It's funny how we all would jump from different name brand vehicles. But if you ask me dodge is a killer. Just ask the top fuel dragster what they would rather drive, I bet the most would say a dodge. Parts do go bad people. Nothing last forever.
If you think dodge is bad try working on a 2000 Chevy 4.3 distributor. They put the AC lines in the way it somewhere there factory is a midget that works on brackets and that’s all they do . I’ve never worked in a Ford so I can’t say much about them but I do believe dodge engineers, smoke weed and Chevy engineers smoke better weed cause they’re all idiots when they’re creating things However, I would not know how to work on cars and trucks if they didn’t keep breaking . I have four 1970s vehicles that need to be rebuilt bumper-to-bumper I’m seriously taken about giving up on 21st-century crap and going old school carburetor. One thing to add . We can blame all the safety gurus for shoving engines, basically under the firewall so that in a bad enough crash, the motor goes down instead of backwards into the passenger compartment. We can also blame the climate idiots for all the computer and smog stuff that has taken our control of easy fixes to cars and trucks away from us. It’s only gonna get worse
I found you from your A. Camerata video as well. I think it's great that you're fixing your own stuff. However you should work on diagnosing alittle more because you spent more than you needed to on that truck. I've had alot of 2nd Gen rams gas and diesel and between being a cheapskate or just wanting to not spend unnecessarily, I've learned to diagnose really well so I only have to buy exactly what I need for the most part. You could have tested each individual plug wire and your coil with a $10 spark tester to know for sure whether your cap/rotor and wires were good or not and cut the cost of getting your truck running at least in half. I'm not trying to put down, just trying to help as a fellow beer drinking self made mechanic. Also plugs and wires almost never just go bad from sitting a month. I can see the coil crapping out from sitting and usually the distributor cap gets moisture from sitting and being old and that's usually what the problem is, but lucky for you, you didn't have to go back there and do it.
I hear ya. It needs plugs and wires anyway. It had ignition ping right before that and a tune up was already on the list. Not a big deal to me. Thanks for watching and keep wrenching.
So it was the ignition coil.. i have a 2500 and its making the same sound when tryna start. It didnt crank at all til I switched the battery, switched the starter relays up in the fuse, and hit the engine wit a lil starter fluid. Still cant start it up. What can I do next. I like doin process of elimination. Do the starter have anything to do with anything?
@@PossumKing well it has all new spark plugs and a new ignition thing ...i'll tell ya what between this damn dodge and the Factory Ordered Road Disaster im about t get rid of them all and get real horses ....oh by the way truck still wont start im a Chevy fan dodge aint mine its my oldest son truck.
Problem solve it. Will it run off starting fluid? No, then it's most likely ignition. If it's timing related (cam sensor) it will probably throw check engine code.
@@PossumKing the engine light did come on! We thought it was because I needed oil (because well I do) but my boyfriend said it shouldn’t stop it from starting completely! Thank you
I just had the intake off my truck last weekend and that's when I did the cap. He is the video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DggQdJXTlWs.html
@@PossumKingfyi… I had my 96 dodge fuel pump changed … it would crank but wouldn’t start… so i had an auto electric garage take a look at and do some troubleshooting come to find out that the clip (connector) was fastened tight.. and it worked it self out… auto electric place tight the connector by fastening correctly… hope this clarifies
Hey. Could you help me. My truck has some hoses that are cut inside the engine bay. I'd like to see where yours connect to. Is there anyway you have snapchat or anything and could send me a picture?
@@PossumKing I'm not quite sure. I don't think they are coolant I'm almost positive they are vacuum but they are very tiny and thin. They are just to the right of the distributer cap.
@@PossumKing my truck won't start. I'm thinking it'd either a vacuum issue or a fuel issue. It gets fuel but not enough to stay started. I got it running on it'd own one time for approx 2 minutes then it shut off
Yeah baby Ford 7.3 Power stroke the only way to go!!!! Trump 2024 Land Rover discovery 2 put the dam coil pack all the way in the back as well !!!! So stupid best to move a coil pack to the front it's just wires?????
@@PossumKing didn't really mean it like that. I usually watch your stuff and you're pretty good. But all that for a coiled pack man. Thought you were going to show me something good. Been trying to get this other Dodge I'm working on fixed. And watching that all that time. Felt like what the hell, A wast.
