Craster & The Cold Gods 

The original, that I know of, of the trope about being welcome but not to sleep with the lady of the house is from the aurthurian tale of sir Gawain and the green Knight where its not exactly the same but I've seen it to be more the same in later adaptations and inspired stories. I also think there is some noticeable parallels here I that it's a story all about honour and promises which is very similar to the concepts given of guest right and in how the honourable guest has to choose to keep his promise and do the wrong thing or break his promise to be successful or honourable.

The Fevre or Fever River is also a real-life river in the Midwestern US which feeds into the Mississippi! I always found Sour Billie to be a fascinating character, and saw some slight resemblances between him and Theon Greyjoy as well Smeagol/Gollum. Both enslaved and tortured, thralls of insane psychopaths, who end up degraded and transformed by the evil lord they serve until they become somewhat of tragic heroes and at the very last second and help save the day - although Theon seems to have made that turn much sooner than Smeagol or Sour Billie.

Interesting that Craster is doing - more or less - what Sam Stoop’s wife tells Egg the Red Widow does. “Whenever she gives birth, a demon comes by night to carry off the issue.” The culprit being ‘The Lord of the Seven Hells’ is a very Andal take on a very Northern issue, but it does show how ‘may the Others take you’ is used and reused. Don’t know about the idea of Craster’s sons not becoming Walkers. It seems to me his wives are reliable in all their other knowledge about the Walkers, why would they be wrong about this? And we don’t hear anything from Mance’s wildling march of them especially targeting children to kill - anyone who strays is a fair target. Anyway, this one was great fun! Love thinking about evil characters.

Because he takes his daughters as wives, he is protected from being murdered by them. They aren't just his wies, they are his daughters so the curse of kinslaying applies. The wildlings can go there...and even though they seem to hate Craster, they also seem to feel sorry for him. Mance offers Craster to join him, so they feel something more than absolute hatred and disgust. Craster isn't the first person who gaves his children to the Cold Gods...Night's Watch has as well, so something is going on there it feels like.

Maybe the children all being ‘female’ and the others being ‘male’ actually has something significant in that fact towards their life cycle. Perhaps both are a function of the weyrwood life cycle?

Is there anything hinting at his sir name? His blood is black... a black fire maybe? That's why they let him do his own thing.

Im assuming the corpse queen is a female other.....so the others are def not just male
