Matt Tuiasosopo played parts of five seasons in the majors, ending in 2013. He's a lifetime .206 hitter with 12 home runs and 45 RBI's. Today he is the manager of the Rome Braves of the South Atlantic League.
I CAN SEE THE LIGHT, I BELIEVE YOU MIKE!!!Dave Niehaus was the man in the booth, R.I.P to a legend, I wish they would have footage of the booth when he hit it, just from the goosebumps of this call, there’s no way he didn’t jump to his feet. As a Yankees fan, I’ve always been a low key fan of the Mariners
Also a Yankees fan, also a low key mariners fan. For me it comes from Ichiro. I was too young to see him with the mariners, but loved him as a yankee and went and watched some old highlights and it all sparked from there
Eminem did that to Fred Durst live on TV on some awards show years back. That move was thereafter known as the Fred Durst salute. I'm gonna go look that up now. It was funny.
This is arguably my favourite call in all of baseball, and I'm a Jays fan. The genuine joy of the moment and appreciation of those in it, makes me smile every time I hear it.
*SWUNG ON* (oh) *AND BELTED* (OHH!) *DEEP TO LEFT FIELD* (OHAHAHAHA!) *JUST MISSED THE SECOND DECK!* (HAHAHA!) *FLY FLY FLY AWAY!* (HAHAHAHA!) *I DON'T BELIEVE IT! I'VE SEEN THE LIGHT!*
Been watching baseball for the better part of 30 years....played it for about 20....and this is one of the most awesome things I've ever seen. PS...thank you Dorktown for cracking this egg of knowledge on me.
Dave is king of course, but I've always felt Rick Rizz deserved some love as well. His voice and phrases aren't nearly as iconic, but he had a solid voice and a lot of enthusiasm. There are so many thoroughly dull announcers and commentators for baseball that hearing some genuine passion is always worth recognizing, I think.
I like to imagine everyone else in the press box, who didn’t know about the prediction, wondering why the Mariners announce crews were absolutely losing their minds over this random homer
Mariners have the best announcers in baseball. Rizzs, Sims and Blowers have been at it for 15+ years and have somehow managed to make a team without a playoff appearance exciting
Tuiasosopo just trottin around the bases, oblivious to the Nostradamian event that had just occurred. Would have loved to see his face the first time he heard of this.
He went through Denial ("I don't believe it") Bargaining ("Would you believe it?"), and Acceptance ("I Believe It") All in one, less than two minutes, clip
We miss you Dave Niehaus, one of the greats RIP.. "Grand Salami time, that ball is belted to DEEP left center field, and that ball will fly away, My oh my!!"
Steve Stone used to make some good predictions, like "If he keeps it low and outside, he can get him here." Sure enough, the pitcher did and the batter swung and missed.
I was at a Brewers game with my friend and when Geoff Jenkins came to the plate I hit him on the arm and said, "Homerun, 3rd pitch," and it actually happened!!! Everyone else in the crowd stood up to cheer and my friend and I just looked at each other in amazement.
I don’t recall if I’ve said this but we used to live by Mike Blowers. My dad had seen him getting a haircut before a game in our little town and my dad told him to hit a homerun that night. Mike Blowers actually hit two homeruns that night. I have his autograph hanging in my garage.
Best call ever, the prediction was hilarious but his partner called the shit out of that for the radio crowd. Went from being the douchiest "yeah ok Bill 👌" TV to utter gold.
Every time I watch a horror movie I predict the whole plot and I’m usually right. I was watching one yesterday and I said, “creepy girl was cursed and preformed ritual and the main character is going to have to destroy the relic but fail and create a vicious cycle.” The movie was called Freind Request and it was almost spot on.
the sarcasm is palapable. You can hear the people near the commentators laughing their asses off and I would be too. I don't know how they're keeping straight faces as they're saying such a ridiculous set of words. And then it happens
