Such a neat truck. I have a traxxas slash. technically. Yours is painted and a different color. I use the sidewinder v3 also. I love how you designed Creature. Keep up the good work!
little tip you can buy a castle 36mm motor fan and put it over the esc , it fits just over , after that secure it on with some tip ties or tape and jou r done !
Bout time you got with the 21st century man. Lol looking good brother. I came out of retirement. I've got 2 I'm workin on myself and buildin 2 rustlers for a friend. When I start I'll be sure to post vids.
I have melted a sidewinder 3 esc in my traxxas blast. A tip is to not run battery after battery right after another, just wait a couple of minutes between batteries
You got a castle good choice. I use a castle mmp and a 5700kv motor on my rustler and it goes 65mph on 3s. I have had it for 2 yrs and it hasn't let me down.
RPM has a new ESC cage made for this car/esc combo! Picking it up at my LHS Friday. I have the Sidewinder SCT V3 in my Slash that started out as a basket case. It was a former hobby shop track rental truck.
Try braiding the wires from the esc to the motor.....it makes a single and very strong cable.....less of a chance you will rip a cable out.....plus it reduces radio interference, which is needed for non 2.4ghz radios
as for mounting the ESC just take an aluminum ruler cut it to size drill holes in it the screw it to where the old ESC was then just use some double sided tape to stick the new ESC to the ruler
You get what you pay for. The Velineon System can completely be submerged in water and be fine. You do that with the SV3 it will burn out. It can handle some water being splashed on it but to much and you endager it of being burnt out.
The castle on off switches on their esc's are famous for going out so I highly recommend that you turn it on and if by just plugging and unplugging the battery
Actually this thing is holding up really well. After running it for a while the motor and ESC doesn't run so hot anymore. I guess it just had to break in. As for nimh, it should show some more speed but it won't shine until you use lipo.
P Blitz: I had a few stripped screws yesterday when I swapped mine... Drill the head off and when u get it drilled should pop off then take the needle nose n spin it out..
they have fixed the heating up issue so it doesnt need one. Also if you get a fan it doesnt make it waterproof and i bet castle creations wanted it to be fully waterproof so they fixed the heat issue
when you buy those new gears i would strongly recomend getting a losi brand pinion i really like these they seem stronger than traxxas ones and they dont rust as easily.
It seems to be random. I've heard people say they completely submerged their Sv3 in water and had no problems and others that say it got slightly wet and it burned out. So I couldn't really tell you. All I can say is I've had no problems yet and I haven't gotten it wet yet so I don't know.
I don't plan on sending my slash swimming so I think it will be fine. Looking for something else velineon fried, and had a hobbyking waterproof setup that lasted a whole 20 seconds. Nice build btw!
jason, im a union sheetmetal worker and im making a custom aluminium mount for my rustler. if you can get me a sketch, deminsion and hole layout i would be able to make you a esc plate that would be worthy of going on creature. anodizing green would be on you though. lol.
You got it. The SV2 is exactly like the SV3 but not waterproof. I've seen no proof that it performs better. The motors were waterproof to begin with so there's no upgrade there.
that looks really good! im running the velineon motor still but with the sidewinder esc. Btw, if your esc does get hot, you can get a $10 motor fan and put it on the esc. i got it and my esc stays barley warm :)
I bought it off eBay. Cheapest price I could find for $99. 4600kv should be fine. As for putting it in your Merv, I have no clue. If you do, let me know how it turns out.
Thats awesome i was hoping you would put a castle on creature, it will make it a little wheelie popping machine. I had a sv2 3800kv on my HPI blitz before i started racing and it was fast! Now on my pede, but if i could give a little advice i would get a program card for it so you can go to NiMh if you wanted to and for general set up, also im not sure if the sv3 is set up for castle link but thats the way to go plug into the computer and control your power curve any way you please, enjoy!
KV is rather simple when you take out all the mathematics out of it. The lower the KV the higher the torque/acceleration but lower the top speed. Lower KV can handle more Volts from a battery. The higher the KV the lower the torque/acceleration but higher top speed but it can't handle as many Volts from a battery.
Actually, at this point I like it more then the Velineon. I won't know for sure till I get better gearing and run it during the summer and see how it handles heat.
Hi Jason, love the whole modifying RC thing. I know I'm late but I was wondering, should I get this system or the velineon system in my rustler xl-5. Have a great day man.
And what kv motor should I buy, a 7700 kv a 5700 kv or a 4600 kv system. All the same price. I blew up my 12 turn so I need a new motor produces less heat and more power. I am considering a heat sink. It will be run off-road and in the sand (with paddle tires for the sand). What gearing do you recommend? I want a all round setup for gears. Thanks for the input man.
The higher the KV the higher the speeds but lower torque. Also higher KV means it can't handle 3s. Only 2s. Lower KV means higher torque and less higher speed. It can also handle 3s.
i got one of these finally for my rustler, and the power switch was messed up, when i first ran it everytime i hit a jump the motor and stuff would just shut off randomly then id go turn it off and on it would work fine until i hit a few more jumps and i thought it was overheating.. and it started to work after that for a little while, but i left it sit for like a week, when i tried to run it it simply would not turn on for anything... then i cut the power switch off and hot-wired it together and put some electrical tape on it.. pluged it in,, came on and has been working perfectly since that..
It is cheaper than a vxl system, but I am getting longer run times on the 3s Lipo than the vxl, not much difference in speed.Vxl does seem to have more torgue.
I got the Sidewinder 4 for my Slash 2wd, and man I hate the programming aspect of it, its so annoying, and the instructions are not vary clear either. I use to use my old Nimh battery just because I have it, why not, but the hole programing the LVC on or off is such a pain in the rear... So I just use lipo anymore, can't even give these nimh batteries away lol
Hey Jason I know you're busy and all and this is an old vid but do you need anything or want anything for any of your rcs? I have the same ones and some spare parts.
I dont mean to be the person to correct others, but your information was not 100% accurate. The top speed will be virtually the same (on 2s) because the higher kv motor needs lower gearing. Also, the higher kv, the faster acceleration and, as odd as it sounds, the easier it makes the truck to handle because the tires don't slip quite as bad. I don't know the math for it but swap a 38, 57, or 6900kv in for your 4600 and you will notice drastic changes in throttle response. Great review tho!
have you hooked a 3s on to the this 4600kv? if so, any heat issues with motor or esc? not too familiar with these types of rigs, but i wanna 4x4 bash with a wraith crawler; do you think the system will stay cool?
have you tested the top speed? i am looking to buy one for traxxas slash 2wd. I am very excited, the titan 12t brushed motor isnt fast enough i love to go fast. Have you run through any water yet. HAs anything bad happend Thanks, James Hamer
which pinion gear do you use? I have a 5700kv and Castle says not to use bigger than an 18T. I had a 19T but I'm gonna put on a 12T when it comes in the mail.
If not using brushed any more will there be an XL5wp give away buddy. Put my name down please as brushless motor just shredded gears in my Tamiya TL01b again it needs a good brushed system with plastic diffs!
