On a hot August day in 2015, 33-year-old Myles Gray travelled from the Sunshine Coast to Vancouver in his company truck to make his usual delivery of fresh greenery to wholesale florists.
That same day, he was found dead in the backyard of a home. A coroner was unable to pinpoint a cause of death because his injuries were so severe. The only witnesses? A group of Vancouver police officers responding to a nuisance call about a man spraying a woman with a garden hose.
An independent investigation recommended charges, but none were laid. It's taken Myles Gray’s family eight years to fight for justice for him - and find the truth.

In 1991, my brother was severely beaten by four Vancouver Police Dept (VPD) officers in downtown Vancouver. He was arrested for running away when officers tried to question him for simply walking downtown in the early morning hours. When I heard he was in St. Paul's hospital emergency dept, taken there by the VPD after they had him in custody for several hours, I went straight there from my office which was very close to the hospital. He was covered in bruises but fortunately had no broken bones. I saw the police report that stated that 4 VPD officers were required to subdue my 150-lb, 28-year old brother; I also saw the hospital report and blood analysis which showed zero alcohol content and zero recreational drug content. The police and hospital staff assumed him to be high on drugs until his blood analysis confirmed this to be false. I bet there are dozens of similar cases every year that don't get reported.

It's amazing how every officer described every important motion and other details regarding Mr. Gray's behavior and actions towards them, yet not one of them saw any blood... Their lies are equivalent to their choices they made after the fact - 'HORRIBLE'! My prayers go out to the Gray Family and friends of the deceased. A police officer's job is extremely difficult, and I can only imagine the confusion and fear they felt in that moment because witnessing a nervous breakdown or a mental breakdown is frightening. Hindsight however, is 20/20, and they failed when they decided to lie about parts of the events that took place that day.

People rarely get the mental health help they need and deserve
@raphaellavictoria01
@raphaellavictoria01 8 месяцев назад
Listen: mental health laws are very restrictive, and these mentally ill people can rarely be treated against their will. Severe mental illness often alters their judgment, believe it or not, such that they WON"T take medication. If the laws allowed psychiatrists to decide who gets treated and who doesn't, a lot of mentally ill people would be forced to get treatment. It's not difficult to diagnose what is obvious to us. But the law leans heavily on the side of patients' freedom and rights. Period. These severely sick people "rarely" accept help, let me tell you that much.

The "police officers" should be charged with murder. They assaulted him until he died. Myles was really well built and muscular, probably more than the cops were and I'm sure they figured he'd be hard to hold. When his injuries were disclosed, I burst into tears. Not to compare, but this is a lot worst than what happened to George Floyd and I recall know how bad this was. So what I'm saying is that the cops should be fired and lose their badges. And they should have spent time in prison because, a "regular " citizen " who have had been behind bars. Lucky for them that they they're not in the US. Anthony was beaten to death. He had no chance against all.of them. My condolences go to his family and friends. I don't know how they were able to pull though 🌷🕊 . -Alexandra L.

I didn’t like how the female officer assumed he was "high" or "intoxicated"..that's unacceptable. These officers clearly have NO experience dealing with these types of encounters involving persons with mental distress/illness. These tragedies shouldn't happen if these officers were trained properly and honestly I truly believe some officers are NOT fit for this type of job. Try to approach these individuals by talking kindly and not loud/aggressively. Remember they are not in the right state of mind and aren't fully conscious of their actions. You have to really understand their mindset and I don't think many officers are capable of that. What happened to Myles is something that happens way too often and its sad that officers are quick to use force. These aren't criminals, these are innocent peoples lives we are talking about and they need help. Also, maybe pulling up the medical records while on scene to see if they have previous mental records on file could be an option.. to see the type of individual they are dealing with. Myles did not deserve what happened to him. RIP Myles and God bless the hearts of those who loved him..especially his mom and dad💕

no experience dealing with encounters... you have to be joking. what do you think police do all day every day? i think a lot of people just cannot conceptualize what police deal with. he was trying to open the door of the police car, yelling, and she said he "seems" drunk or high - most of us would think the same thing. It goes without saying that there is a third option (mental health). i think the entire situation was unfortunately rooted in his issues which his family honorably admits that they were well aware of due to incidents in the past. I believe that we should invent a net for catching people rather than hand-to-hand combat takedowns, and im sure the police would appreciate that too because they dont plan on murdering people - they get called into these situations

My son was in VGH for a while and one night I stopped to talk to a homeless couple (Who politely asked for a cigarette) while I was walking back to my hotel. I guess the lady at the till at Shopper's Drug Mart on Broadway thought they were harassing me, because 3 VanCity Police cars roared up and a bunch of cops piled out. We just stood there with shocked looks on their faces and they stood there waiting for something to happen. Then they did the whole who are you, do you have ID (Yes), can we see it (Why?), why are you here, so I explained about my son's accident and showed him my hotel room card. Then the cop starts giving me shit and telling me how panhandling is illegal in Vancouver and he could give me a ticket. I informed the cop that I passed by this young couple 4-6 times a day (at least!) and this time I stopped to talk to them. I offered them a smoke and In the future I would offer them anything I damn well chose. He heaved a great sigh, said okay, thank you ma'am, have a nice evening. This is what happens when you send people with guns to to the job of a mental health specialist....when will the police learn that not all calls require force.

It sickens me to hear what these cops did, knowing he has no weapon on him. 😢

if officers were christian’s, they would understand that demons can influence people and they could address matters more appropriately and with empathy

The Vancouver police have gotten away with this kind of stuff for years and years they have no respect for anybody they will beat anyone if they get the chance and clearly they did it again to this poor person you don’t get all those injuries by resisting arrest this is clear case of seven men beating and kicking it with poor guy who’s hobbled literally defenceless and that’s Vancouver police for you because they do this to people I was assaulted in the elevator in my building and they didn’t do anything the guy got away free no charges well my head was punched in and I was throwing against every wall eight times and punched eight times and he was never arrested the Vancouver police they don’t care about any persons rights or assaults they go through either you go through the salt and nothing is done for you and your Woman or you’re a guy like Miles and every other person like Miles who have been beaten by the Vancouver police and gotten away with it!

So hard to listen to this. I feel for Myles and his family. Mental health often has no mercy given. I feel for the police, but hate the brutality they showed.

This was a really difficult watch. My heart goes out to the victim and his family. The officers are all liars (as usual). I wish them all nothing but the absolute worst in life and may they one day get theirs. Absolutely disgusting behaviour.

If this was public people like you or I one of us would be in jail period full stop but if you wear a badge no problem it's damn near license to kill police need to be held to a higher accountability there is absolutely zero reason this should EVER happen so sad another story of police brutality its gotta stop

This is reminding me of LA and Rodney King which was, at least, filmed. There is NO way this should have happened. Yet another cover - up. Does nobody in law enforcement have any integrity? So much for mental health care. This is an utter disgrace. Useless, totally incompetent, untrained police officers. Totally mishandled. I Do NOT give a toss about what happened to the police, even if it is believable, which it is not. They will all stick together so they are all equally guilty of murder. My deepest sympathy to the whole family. What about the murder charges? This is an utter scandal.

Worse is the psychological harm . This is why he was acting apprehensive as he knew his background checks were clean Prior to the incident……Some sort of a record would’ve existed after and that’s why he was it’s frustrating or Myles was resisting
