It was October 1984 in a small town outside Toronto, when a young girl went missing. Almost 3 months later, Christine Jessop’s body was found more than 50 kilometres away from her Queensville home. The nine-year-old was raped and murdered. After an intense police investigation, a former neighbour, Guy Paul Morin was charged. Numerous trials resulted first in an acquittal, then a conviction to an eventual wrongful conviction dismissal. A tragic tale that affected the lives of many, and a case that has never been solved.
UPDATE AS OF OCT 15, 2020: Toronto police say DNA has helped to solve the 1984 murder of Christine Jessop, however, the suspect is now dead. Toronto Police Chief James Ramer identified Calvin Hoover as Jessop’s murderer. He was 28 at the time of the case and he died in 2015.

This case has been solved. The DNA sample found on Jessop’s underwear was identified on Oct. 9 as belonging to Calvin Hoover. He was known to the family and died by suicide in 2015.

This case hung over my childhood like a dark specter. I was slightly older than Christine and grew up in a similar rural community not far from Queensville. I remember being terrified that some person was out there snatching kids in a town that I knew, not some big city far away. My mother was Guy Paul's alibi witness. He was a regular customer at her grocery store and she served him on practically a daily basis. Like usual, she served him on the day Christine went missing at a time that would have made it impossible for him to have committed the crime. Although she served hundreds of people a week, Guy Paul stood out because he was polite, friendly and very gentle natured. My mother contacted the York Regional Police to share her interaction with Guy Paul on that day. She was never formally interviewed nor deposed by the Crown or Defense attorney. She called multiple times and thoroughly expected to be subpoenaed. There was NEVER any follow up from either the police or the attorneys. I remember my mother being so frustrated and absolutely sick about his conviction. To know that someone is innocent and nobody was listening was a terrible burden to carry. My mother died in 2004 and up until a few years before her death, she still talked about the horrible miscarriage for both the Jessop and Morin families. About the only bright spot in this whole debacle is that there is DNA. Hopefully they can get some sort of hit through GED match and finally bring justice to Christine. It's the least these keystone cops can do.

After watching several Crime Beat episodes one can honestly say that JUSTICE is a joke in Canada. Killers are given merely seven years for the crime and are allowed one day parole , an innocent person can just be picked up by cops and labeled a murderer without any evidence to back up the crime and a jury can find that innocent man guilty. A really scary place to live in.

There are so many children that have been raped and murdered and there is never justice for them! Anyone sexually attracted to children needs to be separated from society indefinitely. There is no known way to cure a humans sexual desires. The risk of physically & mentally fracturing the child for life is to great of a risk to take lightly. I myself have never had help and struggle everyday, it's exhausting!! I just set auto control and put on my happy face & take it day by day. I pray for change & for no more children to have their innocence stolen from them, it truly is a life sentence that survivors deal with while the rapists get away with it.

I actually have commented the same exact thing (essentially) in many other videos. Child sexual offenders have the highest chance at reoffending once released, yet get some of the most lenient sentences. That makes absolutely no sense. Why make a child suffer a life sentence (or no life, like in this case) & let the person who did that ever walk free?! I don’t agree they should be kept alive. There’s no use for them in society, anywhere. They can give nothing to any community. Most of the studies done on them have been done as thoroughly as possible, so that’s really not even an option. We cannot learn any more from them, than we already know. Also, no one is sentenced to life or death without DNA evidence in the last 25yrs to present, so this error doesn’t happen in these cases anymore.

It struck me when the mother said "finally, somebody has paid for Christine" and then corrected it to "the guilty one". I totally get that the parents were absolutely distraught about the loss of their little girl and wanted closure but it was so obvious from all the "evidence" that it could not have been him. Can you find closure if the person that actually did it is still roaming free?

It wasn't a mistrial he was aquitted the first time so in America would have just been free. But this happened in Canada so who knows

Did they even consider anyone else... Like possibly the dad or friends of the parents? Such bullshit, ruined that guy’s name & for what? To say you have solved it?! Sickening... Maddening. Just crazy!

Whats worse than murder is convicting an innocent person. Disgusting

So the initial reason why Mr. Morin became a suspect is that his family kept to themselves and had no interaction with the neighbors? And how did the second jury even come to the conclusion that Mr. Morin was guilty?

This is a very very good channel to watchespecially ones that show that the people that have been convicted are really innocent and they had said that all along. I have subscribed to your channel and will continue to watch your stories

The real criminals must be laughing of the detectives and justice. Public, states and public should have patient and not put pressure in order to find a guilty. Justice is matter !

This is horrible. It reminds me of the West Memphis Three (an American case that happened in 1993) who were in prison for half their lives before being released. Same thing with the faulty forensics. It’s a shame that the police didn’t serve the victims proper justice. Also, I know if the west Memphis three case that there was prejudice, which also seems to be rampant in this case as well.

Some times these police officers are to quick to fixate on the wrong people. And have them suffering while the people who did the crime walk free enjoying their life.
