I can sympathize with what she went through but not for murder as he did nothing to warrant it . Had he beat her and nobody would help her and if she feared for herself and the kids then yes I'd be sympathetic to her for murdering but this was not the case . She could have left him or divorced him when she found out . I mean the guy was wrong for creating a d wrong for mental abuse but his actions doesn't make her murder justified at all and she should have been executed for her crime.

However, I'm not condoning her actions nor am I trying to justify it. But back in those days women were not treated as they're today. Even if she had filed for a divorce given her background, she would be up against a high profile war hero and a well liked politician. She would've lost the custody of her children. Again, I'm not saying that killing her husband was the only option. But she was left with very few.

To me, morals are more important than laws, disregarding impulsive moral decisions. Edit: As an example, say you had the opportunity to meet Hitler and carry a gun. Do you shoot him if it's guaranteed? Law says no, morals say yes, assuming we have the morals we do now, or even the morals of resistance.

If we're talking morality, it's immoral to kill someone simply because they didn't love you anymore. Now if we're talking about a situation like Lyle and Erik Menendez, then the morality definitely comes into question.

@@rachelexline2262 This case is really tricky. I also understand how she felt, and that Yvonne was cleared of all charges after what she was going through. But she still committed manslaughter for a miniscule reason and that should have technically resulted in Yvonne going to prison. But I'm also not mad about the decision the court made.

That being said, murder is horrible and, indeed, a crime.

If you think murder is the correct response then I worry for anyone close to you.

Totally agree! People saying “she chose to kill when she could’ve simply walked away or divorced him” have no clue. There was nothing “simple” about her circumstances. Not saying it's okay but as a victim of domestic abuse I came close to sticking a knife in my abusers neck . Fortunately I managed to get out of that situation and am now a survivor of domestic abuse ( my ex husband is also a survivor , but he will never know how close he came to not surviving ) Sorry if that all sounds kinda weird , but it was a horrible time in my life . So it wasn't so "free" but understandable, (look at her, she went to serve in a colony to help the people, and didn't got the money).

Not guilty doesn’t mean you’re innocent. It just means that there were mitigating circumstances that led up to the crime. Such as “by reason of insanity.” His actions were a direct cause of her insanity.

I'm a man and I absolutely thought that husband was tormentative and trifling to say the very least But to say he played with fire doesn't even approach the profound befuddling betrayal he perpetrated on a devoted woman who. He originally won her heart legitimately and to leave one you had held as beloved and has been your loyal companion only to be discarded like a used item but remaining married and leaving her to linger in the emptiness left behind I can only imagine the confounding nature of such betrayal could send one twirling down and spiraling into madness he was an arrogant piece of shiza and his unmitigated gall and continued to rebuff the earnest attempt to stoke the fire back he was beyond asinine how cavalier he was to think every day you piss down somebody's neck and believe that nothing will ever come of it. If this took place today, it wouldn't have been manslaughter. It would've been a second degree murder, since in manslaughter your indirect actions cause the loss of life. However in this case, her actions were direct but it was due to immense emotional distress and provocation. But there was this slight time frame between her thinking of killing herself and then shooting her husband which counts as malice aforethought (she knew shooting her husband would kill him). And for an action to be murder malice aforethought is very important. It would've been manslaughter if she would've fought with him and in doing so killed him. Because usually when two individuals are fighting they do not think the final result would be death of one. (This is the reason why boxers and military people are held accountable even if they just fought, because they're trained professionals). But when a gun is involved you're sure that shooting someone with it surely kills them. So, even if it took a fraction of a second for her to change her mind from shooting herself to shooting her husband, she did infact thought of it this proving malice aforethought. Sorry if this was lengthy.

She just found her belongings packed, near the garage, and I asked her to leave now and never return or talk to me again. She was upset and me to but I think she was more upset than I because she had no place to go and I was very calm. She asked me to let her in and talk but I refused.
