Hi Sir, could you also say for "You must not make a plaything of the rain" could mean that the father doesn't want to change his demanour and comfort the child at that moment because he doesn't want to confuse the child and instead have him learn the point of the disciplinary action?
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 месяца назад
Yes, I think this is the father's attitude. He makes an effort to be tough on the son now to teach him a lesson, even though on the inside, he really wants to just comfort and play with the child.
@esther-mariejoseph9335
@esther-mariejoseph9335 2 месяца назад
@@AdamWebbCSEC That's excellent, in regards to corporal punishment, why did the father think this was the best way to discipline the child despite feeling such hurt? Or did he hit the child on a whim and then came to regret it after he saw the reaction?

Sorry if I'm asking for a lot of things, but can you explain the 2nd stanza a bit more, I do understand that the stanza is referring to the boy's POV, he uses his young immature imagination to allow his mind to register the problem more thoroughly (in a way that he would understand).

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zfecaRfK9II.html Good questions, man. First up, watch this discussion I had with some students and teachers about Little Boy Crying. This discussion touches on all of the questions you've asked. There are also further discussion sessions you can find in the description box of that video, Zoom meetings I had with teachers and students where we talked about the poems. In a nutshell, there are two main perspectives we can take on the second stanza: 1) The little boy is imagining his father as a monster because he hates him in the moment (because of the slap) 2) The father, because of the guilt he feels after slapping the boy, thinks that his son hates him, and so the second stanza would be the father's viewpoint of the son's viewpoint. Watch the discussion videos for many more details!

Hello, would like your opinion on something Can the line "you imagine chopping clean the tree he's scrambling down" be an allusion to the children's story Jack and the Beanstalk, reminding us that the son is viewing the father as evil because he is still immature, the story can also play into the comparison of the father to a giant in the prior lines

Also, can you please state the importance of the auditory imagery "quick slap struck"??
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
Good question. The auditory imagery shows the harshness, quickness, and even thoughtlessness of the slap. It's almost as if the father slapped the boy without even thinking. Perhaps he slapped the boy out of anger or frustration. This would then support the idea of the father feeling guilty for slapping the boy without really thinking. Also, the quick imagery tells us that the boy did not have much time to process what was happening. He is dumbfounded.

👋, Can you please state the effectiveness of the allusion "jack and the bean stock", "the ogre towers above you".
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
Through these allusions, we see how the son sees the father, as a villain to slay or as an obstacle to overcome. The son then sees himself as a victim, but also as a hero who must defeat his father. These imaginations might stem from fairy tales the father might have read to the boy. Alternatively, the allusions might show us what the father thinks the son thinks of him.

Finally the relevance of the title.
@AdamWebbCSEC
@AdamWebbCSEC 2 года назад
Simply, the title gives us a super summary of the poem. It solicits sympathy from the readers and tells us that the poem goes into the experience of a little boy, an experience that causes him pain/sadness.
