Beneath the lines indeed. You have me thinking of sorts of possible reasons why the poet writes the poem and what she is implying. The beauty of literature is that there is no one way to analyze a text once you have evidence to justify your position. Was indeed a great analysis, excellent to the point where I had to stop taking notes but to just listen and think.
Well, mission accomplished! Indeed, there is no one correct interpretation. It's about justifying your position with evidence and making a convincing argument. Thanks for watching, and for the kind words.
The way you explained, hah, I am telling you, I started writing my essay. Before your videos, I was struggling with these pieces. Definitely, brewing the theme of gender roles is one that strengthens the aroma of distinction if this poetry is served on the exam. Thank you Mr. Webb
Nice analysis! But I have a question. Would stanza 3 be a hyperbole? Since its exaggerating the 'sport' that comes around once a year. Theyre just going out to hunt birds, but the speaker makes it sound like theyre going to a war. I also think "We stand quietly on the doorstep shivering" is more like imagery
The war references could be seen as hyperbole, while the sport reference could be metaphor, but not necessarily, since bird shooting can actually be considered a sport (literally).
