@@TheCharacterSheet I mean they are a digital entertainment company and maybe Marisha decided it would be a different tack to try and explore Laudna's darker side and introduce some interparty conflict. After 10 years the whole schtick of "everyone loves each other unconditionally no matter what, conflicting personalities and nonsensical, often selfish actions aside" may be getting old for the actors to keep doing believably. Plus it tracks that she would at times be forced to do evil things in the service of her very evil patron. Not all warlocks are Fjord after all and throw their falchions in the lava about it. Some like the power they get and are willing to do whatever is necessary to keep it.

I am inclined to agree that the relationship at this stage is getting toxic, but it also makes a massive amount of sense because there are caveats: 1) Laudna is getting her mind twisted in both a psychological and magical sense. 2) Marisha has said on multiple occasions that Laudna has a lot of comparable elements with a character who is a substance abuser/recoverer which comes with elements of denial and manipulation to keep the parts separate . 3) Imogen agreed to using Delilah, and it makes narrative sense for her to have hesitation about hard stopping that when they’re faced with a post Otohan reality, namely that Otohan was just a henchman in the fight against a heavy weight and that henchman almost ended the party. Do I think the relationship as it is now is healthy? Not at all. But that’s kind of the point. And chances are it’s going to get a lot darker until Laudna hits a rock bottom and resolves to do better, or becomes the Villain with a capital V. I would love for their relationships to be sunshine and rainbows, but what we’re seeing is the intersection of two individual, complicated characters who happen to love each other, not a couple and their mutual struggle.

It's this kind of stuff is the reason why I watch most TTRPG games casts (especially CR) while hiding chat. Firstly, it's a distraction that keeps me from enjoying the action of the game itself. Secondly, this is drama, not toxicity. Drama is caused by conflict and that drama makes for an interesting story. I rather enjoyed Laudna's and Orym's conflict. It made for some very interesting viewing and I'm interested on seeing how this will effect things later on. Thirdly, it seems with C3 that CR has been more willing to move away from the "band of merry-men" trope that was C1 and ratchet up the darker, more dramatic themes and actions that started to appear in C2. And I for one love it and can't wait for more!!

I actually feel like Critical Role Campaign 3 isn't anywhere CLOSE to being over. I feel like we're gonna get a "part 2" under the Daggerheart system once they finish the playtesting and that some of this "spiraling" they're doing is buying time for the playtest to finish up.

Spoilers for campaign 2: I don't think we'll see a part 2 for BH. Succeed or fail, I think they'll end once they deal with Ludinus. We might get a Delilah epilogue like we got for Trent at the end of campaign 2. But we're at about the same spot in the campaign as where M9 discovered that Mollys' grave was empty, which was the start of M9's final arc. (Even though time-wise, they've only been together 3 months, which for campaign 2 happened just as they left the temple of Ukatoah, back in episode 41 - this campaign of flying by!) I would guess they have probably another year, maybe less. 36 episodes, which would be 141 total like C2, would put them out to late March/early April of next year. If they want to launch Daggerheart with the start of their next campaign, it would be appropriate to do it on the 10th anniversary, so let's say they wrap up in December-Februrary, and then they start C4 with Daggerheart in early March (probably the 13th, the Thursday before their 10th anniversary). I also think they might need to stop their month-end break, if that's the goal. There are only 30 more episodes between now and March 13th 2025, if they keep to their same schedule. That seems rushed. They would need 15 more to get up to C2's total, which feels appropriate for where they are in the arc. Without the end of month breaks, going to the end of February, they can get 7 more in, so that's pretty close. 132, halfway between C1 and C2.

I love that Marisha role-played a character arc that is being swayed by evil or passions, which makes perfect sense considering her ... situation. It adds drama and can make the story more interesting (for a future animated for example). ( Like anyone here, gotta say talking about it like it was real toxicity, with your common click bait titles, sucks. I almost refused to click the video to make sure not to encourage you in that cheesy marketing path. I came here for the other news mentioned in your title. I refrained from adding a Like for the reason mentioned.)
@TheCharacterSheet
@TheCharacterSheet 22 дня назад
Ah, I can kind of see how the title could be misunderstood, just be aware that we always use Critical Role when talking about the CAMPAIGN. Whenever we are talking about the cast, we are always extremely clear about that for distinction. (i.e. our interviews with Taliesin or Laura, or when Laura and Ashley were dealing with Toxic fan reactions from Last of Us 2)
@roninhare9615
@roninhare9615 22 дня назад
I wouldn’t say it was toxic, even towards the end of the episode, Marisha mentioned to Matt that she wasn’t in control. They were role playing the story and their backstory. We have all known about Dalalah and how evil she really is. When she was talking with Imogine about Ludinus in regards to the Cerberus assembly, she mentioned how Ludinus does not have friends, that he only has tools, and those tools are only as good as long as they stay useful, and once their usefulness has come to an end, he removes them. I don’t think she was speaking just about Ludinus, but rather how Dalaliah feels about bells hells and their usefulness to Ladnia and Dalaliah. If I’m being honest, I do not see a happy ending for Ladna, Dalaliah is bound to Ladna, and one without the other, they both die.
@TheCharacterSheet
@TheCharacterSheet 22 дня назад
Yeah, but at the end of the episode after Matt says they are ending, Marisha doubles down and claims Laudna doesn't feel like she's lying or doing anything wrong, and Laura disagrees
@roninhare9615
@roninhare9615 22 дня назад
@@TheCharacterSheet often times the only difference between being a hero and a villain, is perspective. From Laudna’s perspective she is still riding that line, however Imogine and the party, looked to have some real doubts, and with Dalaliah gaining more and more power, I’m beginning to think, there will come a point that you won’t be able to tell who’s in control of who. An abused mind, will cater to their abuser just like they have been taught, Laudna spent a lot of time with Dalalah before the adventure, and she is her security blanket, that even if everyone leaves. She still has Dalalah, and when you have a abuser like her, she will worm her way through Laudna’s head until, she sees eye to eye with Dalalah, all she has todo is bide her time and she will meet her goal, especially when your traveling with a group who’s mission is to stop the coming calamity. All that does is speak opportunity for Dalalah. Laudna is becoming more and more of an unhinged loose cannon. Think of Dalalah as a cursed sentient magic item, often times the wielder has no idea they are being manipulated, they feel as though they are there actions, often times convinced that their actions are just by the sentient object, Dalalah is no different, with the exception, you can’t remove her from her host.
@jonathanhibberd9983
@jonathanhibberd9983 20 дней назад
@@roninhare9615 I don't think that they will force an unhappy ending for Laudna. Matt will give them a way out. Whether they can make it work or not is another matter. But he's repeatedly said he will work with the players to help build the story that they want to tell. If Marisha wants Laudna to have a chance to be free of Delilah, he'll find a way to make it make sense in the story.
@VALKRYSA
@VALKRYSA 22 дня назад
I'm living for this new Laudna arc. It would be so easy and tempting to try to back down and just keep things status quo, but Marisha is choosing to do something bold and risky with her character. Whether the party will have to permanently stop her or if she'll be able to step back from the ledge is yet to be seen, but it is RP at its finest.

The cameos are cool, Pumat especially. Regarding the conflict between Laudna, and Orym a few of things: 1. Orym rocked that fight doing alot of damage, and getting the sword back. Not sure how Laudna got the upper hand? 2. More people should have had Orym's back imho, too many stayed neutral or took her side (Laudna). 3. Yes, that weapon has been the death/near-death for most of the characters but communication should have been attempted first not theft/harm, this is Orym we're talking about here (the most rational of the entire group I think). 4. I'm glad at least Dorian stuck up for Orym. Anyway, everyone take care.

I get the argument of "It's what my character would do." when most of these conflicts show up around any table, but I also want people to realize that unless everyone is %100 on board OOC then this actually is very problematic player behavior. I personally do not know what the other players around the table were feeling, but the impression I got from seeing the look on Liam's face as Marisha started to just lean into what Delilah was saying instead of questioning it. Ashton had a really great point about how they need to show some outward reflection of the impact that FCG had on them personally as to not forget what they stood for in life and in sacrifice. FCG was the one that wanted to bring the team together with love and trust, and was making some great progress. To me it feels as if Laudna has completely forgotten that everyone's trust in each other is already paper thin, or Marisha just really wanted to have a moment - even if it meant causing a scene. A toxic scene in my opinion as in the moment I did not feel as if Liam was on board at the beginning, but I could be entirely wrong. It was still really cringe, despite if it was welcomed by the other players or not.

It's too bad that Liam doesn't get enough credit for the choices he makes in roleplay simply because he is more understated. Orym's taking of the sword was controversial but definitely had a certain logic to it narratively and practically. His monologue about wanting the sword because he is the only one with basically no super powers got drowned out. Liam is such a patient, generous actor and it bothers me when it seems like his dialogue gets stepped on. The only thing Orym could have done better was to communicate his intentions, but then that was being true to Orym's character who communicates more by actions than words. Orym was in no way a bad guy by wanting the sword to kill Ludaneth with it and to give him an advantage in combat. It seemed odd to me that the other characters weren't more supportive of him when it was he who was attacked in his sleep.

Like it was a fun exciting moment of tension until the player started complaining about the spell waking him up, talking the dm out of having to make a roll then changing the plan right before she is asked to roll, and then the entire spider climb thing where she argued it shouldn’t work a way then made a side remark when it wasn’t ruled like she wanted. Kinda felt weird. Like she was role playing deliha playing as Marisha playing Laudna lol. Still it was exciting. I swear these video titles have to be some of the most clickbait video titles Ive seen for D&D content. Theres nothing "toxic" going on in Critical Role, Marisha is roleplaying an abused and manipulated Laudna because of Delilah, making her feel like her terrible actions are justified by lying and gaslighting her. Even throughout the entire last part of the episode, she was 101% adamant that she was justified in her actions to steal the sword, purely because she believed that she was doing what was best for one of her closest friends, and her relationship is on the rocks right now because she cant see past that "justification" that Delilah is pushing on her. Theyre all just playing their characters, and they're all killing it.
