I’ve got a pair of these and the tongue stitching came away after about 5 years ! So take care putting on cos they’re quite heavy ! But very very comfortable ! Enjoy ! Beautiful boots for walking !

I find it always surprising how little attention the last shape is given in such reviews. For instance a comparison of the last form between 325 and 365 and its outlines would be very useful so ppl with certain types of feet can decide which is better for them avoiding pressure points in the toe box area and so on. But many if not most customers would never admit that the last is not well fitted for them. Most customers would rather keep wearing a shoe destroying their feet instead of actually buying a shoe made on a suitable last. That said 365 is the most anatomical last of CJ and its too bad they only make a boot on it!

I found it a spacious and roomy last, haven’t worn it for long to know about anatomy but you know, most companies make lasts that will fit the most amount of people!

@@MisiuAcademy Well the 365 must be used on shoes as well by CJ. It's the only last with a low instep and wide asymetric forefoot/ toe box. This type of shape anatomical design allows for a sleek looking boot to fit wider feet without looking bulky like some country style brogue boots. The 325 has a much higher instep a less wide fore foot which is a no go for many ppl when you look at GMTO threads on the styleforum. One group of ppl never order anything in 325 but will order everything in 365 and vice versa.

This is my dream pair ! Thanks for the review! Didn’t know it was featured on skyfall that’s amazing! Will definitely grab one for 2022! I just wish I could find a retailer in Paris to be sure for the sizing

Hi Sam, thanks for watching. I am not sure where you can find these in Paris sorry. They run large so if you know your general sizing in a brand such as Septieme Largeur then half a size down on these should be good.

I purchased mine 2 years ago from the Burlington Arcade store here in London. Excellent boot for casual wear (though even worn it with some flannels now and then). Serious robust footwear.

@@MisiuAcademy you mentioned near the end that colour gets a bit darkened towards the toe. Same happened with a few others C&J I have. I asked about this to the guys at one of the Jermyn Street shops and they said it's because the leather gets way more stretched in that area. Coincidentally, it creates a nice patina effect.

I'm an 11D US Brannok and purchased their 9.5 E UK size. The fit is great except for one issue, it is roomy in the shaft of the boot. If I make the laces tight in the speed hooks, the sides of the lace area touch each other.

It can be a hit or miss on the ankles with boots!

@@MisiuAcademy After talking to some people about this boot, apparently this is common. The boot also didn't feel so great when I made the ankle area as tight as my padded work boots. All I did was leave them a little loose and they worked great. Now they are more broken in and are comfortable.

Hi Danny, these are quite generous and need an extra half size down if you are normal width. If you are sure you are E width, then I would advise to take a UK 9 in this case :) Let me know if that helps!

Hi Jeffrey, there is a grain derby version already on my website. If you want an oxford there is one there out there but it would have to be a GMTO. We would need minimum 8 entries to make it.

I have to use orthotics in all my footwear is this likely to cause any issues? Do Crockett and Jones boots have removable inner soles? I really like the look of both the Coniston and Islay. I’ve never tried footwear from this brand before and am seriously considering it

It really depends. Most insoles are fully glued on and if you remove it you will expose nails and stitching. The islay is the most roomy of the bunch. I unfortunately cannot give any accurate advice regarding orthotics Sorry Ian!

Welted shoes don't have removable insoles, especially C&J and other traditonal brands will have a leather footbed

Hi, The black Islay boots have a durable Vibram sole, but the brown ones do not. Do you know why? Is it possible to order a Vibram sole for the brown boots?

Why do you call it a more durable? I don’t know if you can do MTO with Crockett but it will be expensive.

Hi Eric, I am not sure what you mean. The Islay never came in black. As far as I know. If you want it in black you can contact Crockett and Jones directly and commission a custom order for a surcharge in black. Edit: I saw it’s a new model. Only Crockett will retail this for now.

Comfort is different for each person, nobody can give you a concrete answer because maybe the last is better or worse for your foot.

Every good goodyear welted shoe needs to be broken in, this is how shoes usually are. I didn’t have any problem with mine

I actually hold Tricker’s highly, it’s just that they are not my style aesthetically! I consider CJ to be of slightly higher quality, but with prices going up all the time the value isn’t there anymore. But yes these are excellent boots.

Hello! I actually sold both sizes last week. I don’t plan on restocking these again this season (restock takes around 3 months). They run half a size larger though, did you take that into account?

Thank you very much for your support! Regular cedar shoe trees in UK 10 would work fine there’s no need for fancy boot trees. Alternatively if you want something more nice looking, I have the Santos handpainted trees in 4 colors. Restock arrives this week so you can email me if you want one!
