FMA 101 - EP 15: In this video, we try to explain the cross block in FMA. A block used in the Serrada Escrima system founded by the late Senior Grandmaster Angel Cabales. It is one of the more intricate and awkward blocks to learn in the beginning, but once you understand the mechanics, it's an offensive and defensive rolled into one.

As for angles 3 & 4 the horizontal slashes to the body, It can be a bit tricky. The structure and base along with the timing of jamming and redirection can be challenging at first.

Thanks for the tips. Yeah, I agree when I first started learning cross blocks in Serrada. It was awkward and complicated, but once it clicked in my head it’s an awesome block and attack combo.

Like anything it takes thousands of repetitions to understand a move. Just gotta let it marinate :)

Really? Which group in Balintawak? We learned the block as a Serrada Escrima style. We we freestyle, Jessie's Balintawak training comes out when he follows up with strikes.

That's a good question. The answer is yes, but it all depends on the size and height of the person feeding you. Since Mike is shorter, I have to adapt to the angle, length and height of how he's feeding.
