Crossed is a comic book written by Garth Ennis and drawn by Jacen Burrows for the first ten issues, and published by Avatar Press. The story follows survivors dealing with a pandemic that causes its victims to carry out their most evil thoughts.

Dude that was the only part that actually disturbed me. I don't know whether it was because of the death of the child or the assault or just the plain fact that the mother had enough mental resolve to cuss out the father while her daughter was being ripped apart mere inches away from her. I dunno man, I love fucked up comics.

Honestly, violence that's extreme to the point of being surreal doesn't really bother me. Badlands didn't stay with me at all. The story arcs in this series that were the most disturbing (while still being fun to read) were the ones that delved deeper into the emotional states of their (non-sociopathic) characters and dealt more with psychological than physical suffering. Splatter fiction doesn't bother or interest me on its own. The toned down although still extremely graphic "Wish You Were Here" arc was one of my favorites.

The Crossed is one of the few series I've read that I question whether or not I was better off not reading. I'm not saying it's a bad series, but I'm just not a gore hound and aside from the extreme gleeful sadism, there wasn't much to set it apart from other apocalypse/zombie stories. I can appreciate the art and the dedication to disturb, but if that's not what you specifically came to see, it works against the enjoyment.

Honestly, it's just gore porn when you get down to it. I would contrast it with with the short animation Girls' Last Tour, which does an arguably better job of describing the feeling of being at the tail end of civilization, without gratuitous violence of any kind. That's not to say that I haven't read quite a bit of Crossed, as I do enjoy that kind of stuff as a time waster, but most of it honestly comes off as really trying to be edgy for the sake of it. Worst is Crossed 100 Plus (or whatever the exact title is), which for some godforsaken reason tries to mix rapemurderzombies with LGBT narratives, resulting in some of the dumbest story and character development I've ever seen.

I could see it being relevent if e.g. it'd been explained as the sexual trauma of the "Surprise" had upended sexual norms or some such, but it's literally just there for the sake of PC points.

The Crossed is one of my favorite graphic novel series. Garth Ennis & team really delivered. It's unique. It's also hyper-violent & very sexual. The blood & guts & assaults don't happen off-screen like most books. It's all there in graphic detail right in front of your eyes. The most interesting parts to me were: the crossed pandemic & the character development. It's well done. It was appealing to me because the survivors behaved like real people in desperate times. Just the thought that there aren't any heros coming to save you makes this story seriously terrifying. You help yourself, then you can aid others, etc. This isn't your grandfather's comic book. What caused the diease? Why do the crossed act like they do? We're given bits and pieces. The Crossed is survival horror. I found it compelling. Not everyone will enjoy this title. It's printed in full color panels throughout the tpb. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll leave it here. It's definitely worth the read.

I remember first seeing the comics at a con in 2012, strangely compelling. It was a few weeks later, I did a deep dive on the series. That was an intense experience, seeing the extreme horror series up and close it's great cover art. Those covers unsettled me to the core, still does. I've read a few issues of the series, the first issue of the original story, some badlands issues, some of Wish You Were Here and a bit of 3D. Reading it consistently is something I don't really have the stomach for. Garth Ennis has created the scariest apocalypse I've ever seen. He acknowledged that this is pretty brutal stuff not for the faint of heart and a satire of alot of post apocalyptic tropes.

I loved this comic series so much, once I started reading I couldn't stop until i finished. And as for survival I would most likely go into a cabin in the woods and live off the land through hunting and other means.

I believe the safest location on earth would either be Greenland or Antarctica A location so inhospitable and relentless that it requires pure survival knowledge, innovation and will power just to survive Since the cross' main weakness is their inability for self preservation, they would immediately freeze to death just by running around the polar landscape Also the fact that some cross who have some form of intelligence requires specialize knowledge just to survive and even navigate the arctic would die, like how previous explorers die when settling arctic regions except for the Inuit or Eskimos who honed their knowledge of survival And lastly the severe gap between the mainland acts as a barrier for even the most intellectual cross would have incredible difficulty just going to the North and South poles, further burdening them with logistical issues

The location needs to be harsher like the arctic And since the cross are just infected people who sometimes retain their knowledge, I believe that only a select few has the knowledge to survive in such an environment.

I just recently started reading the crossed comics for about almost 8 months now and i can see how someone who worked on the punisher would do something like this. The over the top graphic violence that keeps you up at night thinking about it from a hypothetical standpoint like ( what if that happened in real life ) absolutely terrifying to think of as a reality. The gruesome imagery it conjures is borderline art. Dare i say it, it IS art. No drama, horror film or novel can top the amount of RAW DESPAIR that the "Salt" scene displays in one single panel. That's a image that stuck with me even after i put the comics down for a year. No painting in a art gallery or movie scene can measure to that in my experience.

I know this is late but if you read the volume called thin red line explains the origin though I don’t think they needed it as a random virus spreading is better you know if they’re trying to cure it sure but the stories are only about the aftermath so I think stories like that don’t need to explain how it happened like the last of us or of the dead series

Read all three of the major volumes and badlands back in 2015. When the woman I was living with found these on my phone, she treated me like a freak. I think that if you do a series of videos on this it will catch like wild fire. Personally, I do not think lots of people have been exposed to this. I will say this, you are very fearless to pursue this one in youtube format. I do not think it has been done yet, but good luck my friend, I will always support your videos. My favorite short was from badlands about the british team that first encountered the one guy and got infected early on. It is great writing and kind of like the sort of origin story.

I agree, i didn't like how 100 years later the English language devolved into basically crossed language and was unreadable in some parts. I heard about wish you were here, but at the time was downloading from a p2p comic distributor. If you have a lead on the webcomic I'd love to take a look. Gotta be careful though, the sense of dread will likely make me want to go back and read from the beginning.

They honestly remind me more of the Reavers in "Firefly". While their behavior is never shown in detail for obvious reasons, they're hyperviolent cannibal rapists who maintain their ability to reason, even if they don't use it to keep themselves alive when that gets in the way of their "fun".

Does anyone think that crossed is very similar to 28 days later, both infections are spread through blood or body fluid. Both have started slightly north of london (rage virus started in cambridge and the crossed virus started somewhere north of london.) The rage virus puts you into a berserker rage, some of the rage virus people are shown to be sadistic like the chimpanzee at the start.The only real difference in the crossed infection and rage virus is that one makes you a psychopath and the other piuts you into a rage.I think this was intentional because garth ennis wrote the origin story for the crossed virus.

crossed was one of, and still is, my favorite reads. people like to just toss it aside as edgy and pointless, but it really does have some good story/character arcs along with really garbage ones. hope you do more of these

I have never read a comic book in my life and one time at barnes and nobles i saw a crossed comic. I read it all and then went after every issue from the original series to badlands and then the webcomic (with shaky)!!!!! I LOVE THIS SERIES. I do not know why!!!!! It is the only comic book series I have ever read. it is amazing. there is so much in this series. Just raw human survival when there is absolutely no hope

When someone normal looks at another person they don't think much about the other just that there's another person but when I look at another Human thanks to The Crossed I now think "Oh I wonder how quickly they'd get raped and eaten by her/his dad or its brother or child or whatnot due to reading several scenes where family rapes eats and kills each other. I know my mind got raped by that crazy comic.

I’d love to see this as a full fledged show. But there would have to be HEAVY *rape trigger warnings* because people are super sensitive to stuff like that which I completely understand. A lot of people wouldn’t be able to appreciate it because most people can’t even stomach the comic

Lets be real logical as interesting as the comic is if everyone on earth was like that the same minds as the joker then wed eventually go extinct within 28 days. To be united by insanity is a fragile alliance at best. Meaning they will eventually turn on each other, betray kill one another till one last man remains and destroys himself. Hunger for Madness isnt really longjevity eventually it just consumes itself

The comics do show that the Crossed will turn on each other when no one else is around, will cull their groups until they are down to about 15, and go into a "stupor" when they aren't stimulated to save energy. They do succumb to the elements and a few survivors use that to their advantage. Crossed +100 takes place a century later and shows that even though things never got back to normal humans are retaking the planet, now outnumbering the Crossed.

If I could go back in time and stop myself from reading this comic I would, but I still love it. To be critical though, the writers are doing something that pushes boundaries waaay past their limit but the actual story and theme, a bigger message, simply isn't there. It's like diet Cormac McCarthy. The violence is there but the impact isn't. And without that, it's pretty much slightly classier snuff porn.
