hero quest was awesome as a kid i would go down my friends house 5 of us would play all day in his basement to add to the effect we would play under candle light we even had the 2 expansion packs. We even made furniture for the game out of match sticks. good memories i'm trying to get them back together to play another game.
"A mighty Barbarian, who slashed foes. An Elf that fucked about a lot. A Dwarf that like to read. And a Wizard who hated them all!" Just your typical average DnD/MMO squad.
In Amtgard, there is Troll Grog, which the troll roleplaying house does at events. They go around offering people a drink of their grog and accepting a sample of whatever the other person is drinking...soda, beer, juice, whatever. The entire house does this. One of them came up to me while I was drinking what I called "alchemy" - every soda I could find, tabasco sauce, Worcestershire, and A1 steak sauce. I apparently scared them.
8:50 - Cam, the OG Hero Quest was set in the Warhammer Fantasy "Old World" setting. If you read the descriptions of the characters and setting within the original manual, the Dwarf is from the World's Edge Mountains, the Elf is from Ulthuan (the story says "Athelorn," but that can't be Athel Loren. The Elf is using metal, which the Wood Elves despise), the Wizard and Barbarian are from the Empire (the Barbarian is from the Border Princes, and the Wizard doesn't say). And you are fighting against the forces of Chaos (specifically Khorne), which is why the Gargoyle looks like a Khorne Bloodthirster. The new HasLab Hero Quest traded Chaos for "Dread." So, Zargon (Morcar in the UK) was an apprentice of Mentor the Wizard, and fell under the sway of Chaos and was turned into a Wizard of Khorne. He also swayed some of the orcs and goblins to join him. Battle Masters does the same thing, as it was Warhammer Lite (set in the Empire as Chaos invades). If Hasbro was smart, they would re-release Battle Masters with optional rules to use figures from nu-HQ as "elite units."
We have a monthly event in my city that is called our "gamer guild". We play mostly tabletop and card games on the first Saturday of every month. Recently we've found a couple of new members who love this game. The guy who runs the guild also loves it but he's constantly called away from the game because he has to interpret rules and such and it is a game which you are expected to get into.
I have to say, while all of LRR's stuff never fails to amuse, this by far had me laughing way too hard to eat properly. More than the Cards Against Humanity stream did.
Zargon: "Now. I have prepared for whatever my master may have up his sleeve. Let his champions come, they will soon feEL MY WRA-!" Servant: "Excuse me sir. Uh.... the champions died." Zargon: ". . . . come again?" Servant: "Yeah. They just, died. Like, in the training course..." Zargon: ". . . well . . . shit . . . . i thought my entrance exam was hell, what the hell is my master doing over there!?"
Watch for the comedy. Plus, 1) heroes learn the game EVERY quest, 2) DM unfamiliar with the rules EVERY quest, 3) from quest 5 on heroes look at the camera(or something in that direction when it's not their turn, and 4) once crossbow is purchased shots are taken through spaces occupied by fellow heroes.
Awesome!! Looking forward to watching this. If you had two semi-complete sets of the game, you could technically have fielded two of each character, obviously doubling enemy numbers to equal things out. The thought of that actually sounds pretty cool. Though given the board size it might work better with Advanced Heroquest?! That said, two Barbarian's, Stab Manthrust alongside his twin brother Slash Manthrust, charging the enemies whilst two Elves and two Wizards give them ranged support with a tirade of arrows and fireballs. The two Dwarfs/Dwarves (never sure which plural, the 1st I think) probably wander off in search of ladies, so they can go skinny-dipping with little hairy women! :D Will also be good to see the Femur again, the Orc Cyclops; I wish he/his character/his type had been brought over to WH Fantasy, perhaps as a half troll sized heavy Orc or at least a Black Orc equivalent. The daemon/monstrous creature included I always assumed/took to be a Bloodthirster. Although, if he and the heroes were brought straight over from fantasy, he would make "mancemeat, dwarf-chops and Elvishish Kebab" out of them. The Wizard he would take for trophies; as food they're lacking in meat, stringy and are often out of date! :D Anyway, enough chat, let's Quest some Heroes, watch a couple die and begin dungeon crawling!
Tell me I'm not the only one who thinks it would be awesome to see an AFK stream wherein everyone plays as one of their characters from Qwerpline (or alternatively any LRR video, if they were never on Qwerpline). Edit: Though this stream did not make me want mountain dew, it did bring to life a desire for cheetos, which I haven't eaten in years. So now I have a bag of cheetos. And it's your fault.
I thought you could only use a spell when you are about to die if you haven't already done your action. At 1:31:56 when the wizard cast water of life to stop himself from dying, should he have been allowed to do that since he had already used his action searching?
Right, but you cannot use a healing spell to save yourself if you have already used an action on your turn. That rule is under the "how to escape death" heading in the rule book. The Wizard used his action to search so the only way he could have saved himself was to drink a potion. He could not have cast water of life to save himself since already used his action that turn. Just a something to watch out for in future play sessions.
+Myrdin90 The adventure in question is actually Call of Cthulhu but I found it similar enough. A "team mate" had min-maxed a character which had psychic abilities to buff himself physically and was literally opening doors and triggering monster events. He was also a melee character and thus used us as shields when fire fights started. It was during the first boss fight when I rolled charisma/persuasion to convince him to "hulk-out" to fight the boss as the rest of the team were not faring well. The speech was like "This is your one redeeming chance, to make so good out of life etc". It worked and also caused him to go insane. We then put him down as insane characters were handed over to the GM.
Argh, too many board games. CthulhuTech, not Call. My friend was a ParaPsychic(somatic build) and I was a Fed Agent (assigned by the GM as the commanding officer). He stopped joining in as he lost interest (We still play other games that are not TTRPGs). The other issue being that the few GMs we have don't like people horsing around. The phrase "mistakes were made, people died" is common as we can easily die in the first area just because we made a sub-optimal decision.
holy shit I just realized that Beej is Derek from Qwerpline! THe voice he uses at 1:02:59 is the exact same as the one he uses for Derek. Up until this point I thought it was Alex doing Derek's voice!
The guy eating is annoying . EDIT.. I had to quit watching after the constant Cheetos crunching .. total wasted hour. Yes I have that hate for crunching noise.
+Michael Williams Whilst it didn't bother me personally, I can relate. The sweeping sound of a hard-bristled broom sweeping water is a sound I hate; in fact hate is not a strong enough word. That sound disturbs me, sends cringing chills through my body!
