Good Video thank you. I just got my first 6.2 and my first diesel for that matter and this video helped me understand the glow plug system which I can now fix
You can very easily delete/modify the glow plug system with a simple conversion to the 1987 glow plug controller system. It's a lot more reliable than the 1984 system.
Ian, I am impressed with your knowledge on the CUCV electrical. I have one with issue. It melts the starter relay. I have failed the starter by overcranking. Now I replaced the starter with an aftermarket and it won't turn. I hear the solenoid click but the bendix doesn't engage and the starter relays fail. The wire harness overheats and I unplug the relay. The truck is bone stock and I have cleaned almost all grounds and bus bars. New battery clamps, etc. Harnesses look good, truck has 22k miles. New batteries, but still same no starter turn. I am prepared to do the starter relay mod with a solenoid. However, I must have a short but have no idea where to find it. Advice please? Thanks, Theo
Thanks for the Glow Plug info. Before I switch to manual I am going to replace the GP circuit board in my 1986 M1008. Do you know what type CB it is and where can I get one? Also, that is a nice 300CD in your driveway, I have one to that is a 1984 with 90k miles and I love it.
Will the wait light stay on with this mod? And if it does remain on after the CUCV starts, does it matter? If the wait light staying on doesn't matter, then how do you disconnect the wait light without having to remove the instrument panel to remove the light bulb?
Great video buddy. Very understandable info. I have one of these trucks, I'm curious if it's possible to jump start one with a 12 volt system, and if so, how? I know it's a stupid question, but I'm not the brightest bulb. Thanks
Wait so, the push button is to shut power off to the blue wire or send power to it? I always have 12 volts to my blue wire and my 86 m1009 won’t start, no power to orange wire with key on....any help?
