N14 is been around for a long time and it's been one of the best engines ever. That's as all I can say!

It seems that it has even grown more popular this year and a lot of people are restoring the engine electronics completely somewhere around $3500 including the ECM. Other people are putting them in Glider Kits too. I bought an N14 because it wasn't as thirsty as s CAT, more powerful than Detroit and Mack, less noisy than Detroit, and there is Volvo...need I say more?

If the ecm detects a short I find that it shuts off that section I never saw an ecu burned .. Conductivity in oil cant put as much load in the mosfet chip as the actual injector coil would .. I repair trucks and also the ecms i find they are very solid units

O have found this oil in connector issue is not isolated to cummins engines and certainly not to engines alone transmission connectors suffer same fate, the engine issue seems to be more prevalent due to it seems the carbon in the oil which is what makes it appear black, less so on engines with shorter oil change intervals maintenance regimes and with centrifugal filter systems, seems to keep carbon content of oil lower with lower incidence of issues, JMHO from 40yrs trial and error

Hi. I have a n14 cummins black top. When i start in the morning it miss fire and doesnt want to rev out. Sometimes when am going suddenly it miss fire and picks up back and go again.

Is it normal for a N14 celect plus to hunt rev when first started sometimes? Like a NTC.

I have a select plus that is cutting out intermittently .it wont shut down all together but fall to almost zero rmp and then sudenly WAKE up .I have proven all ecm/ecu power supplies and fuse holders wires ect, i have changed cam sensor ,all codes are coming up as " unknown code" thinking of throwing a crank sensor at it next?? any sugestions?

Well it’s been a year since your comment but here is my story. 3 months ago I had a major rebuild without removing the block from a new cam down I had replaced. I did not get new injectors because they were working well when I drove in for the rebuild and were only 2 years old. From the very first day after the rebuild, I had the same problem that you are describing and I was pissed so I took it back to the shop that done the rebuild and they changed the cam position sensor and it did not fix it so he tells me to bring it back when it throws a code and sent me a 200$ bill. I have a diagnostics laptop and it checked everything to find the problem but 3 months later #3 injector showed flat on the laptop. Well I pulled the injector and to my surprise, the harness in the head that connects to the pass through had oil in it. All I’m saying is that it’s worth checking for that.

I don’t buy it. The wires are bare where they go into the solenoid. If oil conductivity was an issue, the wires on the solenoid would short out from the get go.

I have a 98 N14 celect plus and it cranks for about 5-6 seconds until I finally turns over, then I get a code 128s 354 12?? not sure what could be, any help would be appreciated

Sorry for the delay, I call the 128 a ghost fault code 128, 254, 12, SID = I found it to be a 111 Faultcode which is ECM Internal Failure. I'll try harder to keep up with all of your questions better in 2019. Www.N14Parts.Com ...Thanks Terry Chron

@@breannachron392 it’s quite interesting they’ve moved the cam sensor to the front of the gear train, also added a sensor. Completely removed the cooling plate and ECM and updated it. They actually use a different cam and change the timing aswell.

I have an n14 Cummins idling at 1100 an don't want to go lower what would b d problem

Sounds like your injector or injectors are dribbling excessive fuel into the engin. Replace 1 or more of them Cummins injectors start going down hill at 500,000 miles and the crankshaft bearings should also be replaced (Called a Bearing Roll Over)
