In Indian households , giving response to something is considered talking back and talking back to elders is considered disrespectful. And if you don't answer back to something it's considered rude.
I'm glad my parents were actually understanding. Not cussing, but talking back to them since it appears to be a topic on this comment section. My mom would be ready to beat my ass every time I responded to something she said, but that all stopped the moment I told her, "That's how people communicate. How am I supposed to open up to you if you beat me every time I open my mouth?" Ever since, she actually calmed down and listened to us kid's tone and learned when we were being disrespectful and when we were just having a conversation.
The problem is, the moment you try to talk back, it's already considered disrespectful. When I have an argument with my mom, it's always one sided because I just keep quiet as she yells or else my dad's going to yell at me for talking back to her. I've become very patient thanks to that. 😭😭
In my house (only my mom and european) she is always right...even if wrong...not much of a fight. BUT THEN better stay quiet otherwise the fight escalates and ofc its your fault...but when your quiet she asks you to answer..(DON'T..once did..I mean she asked!!! Not a good idea).. i don't get those whit-american households.

I am 14 Asian kiddo. I Don't cuss anywhere, I am always polite and try my best to be mannered. Still my mom wants me to study more 🙄 As an Indian, I can't even talk a pinch of rude in front of mom. She will throw me in the toilet without fan.

I remember once I mistakenly sweared at my brother who was annoying me and there was a creepy silence in the room. At that time, my parents were also in the room and everyone's eyes were on me as if I had killed someone. When I realised what I said, I almost cried on spot but my brother saved the day by making fun of me and ignored it. Otherwise, I would have gotten a whole long lecture for it. That was a one lucky day. Lol.

OMG when the white kid said the first cuss word, my first thought was he is dead but then I remembered the white kid part. Still as an Indian adult I just can't imagine being like that in my whole life in front of my parents.
Quite white here. I was 14 years old before I discovered that my mom would NOT somehow know if I said "damn" while two miles away from her, out fishing with my friends. Up until that point, I was immovably convinced that she would Just Know if I said a bad word, and when I got home she would give me The Look, and I would then want to die. (My mom never so much as raised a hand to me. She just had The Look, and that was all she needed. If your mom has The Look, you know what I mean.)
And add the "ah" in front of everyone's names. Hey, Ah John! Come over here, la. I once met an author who wrote a history of the Chinese in the gold California. He listed many people by their names known. He added the "Ah" before each name. I had to explain to him that the "Ah" is not a name. It's just a verbal hiccup. We use that in front of everyone's name.
As an Asian I can confirm this. We have to lower our head and back to walk pass the great mother and address her with title such as "Oh mighty and powerful Mother"

First, my mom would grab a handful of bamboo chopsticks to whip across my head. Bamboo doesn't break. Then it's to the dark bathroom to kneel on the floor to think about my transgressions. At least she never thought about sprinkling rice on the floor to make me kneel on.
Italian family- honestly it would depend on the context, if I straight up called my cousin a bitch I'd be a dead man walking, but if I accidentally let a ass slip while angry ranting, I'd just get a "watch your fucking language" from my dad and then move on. Other than that, no cussing aloud.
I lived in a Mexican German household and this was true even if we said “shut up” or “stupid”. We could not even comprehend actual curse words. I am grateful that I was trained that way from a young age. Children who run their mouth are obnoxious… and adults who do it with no self control end up with much worse consequences. It is a super useful while working in a high stress field with people that makes me WANT to cuss them out.
It does help with interpersonal relations, thinking before you speak saved plenty of times where moments can become worse, and it can go worse because I experienced it when my stupid mouth spake ill of someone of higher authority....
Yes, my and my relatives white 'households don't resemble this model white household. Maybe go observe the households of Antifa members and you'll find something like that. When you're young and they can catch you they might employ the soap in the mouth. Besides that my mother had supersonic hearing when I was young. You said the Lord's name in vain a couple houses do own in your friend's yard either she would hear or maybe she just read lips. You were busted.
As an Asian American. I say swear words and I love doing that shit for how swear words gives me strength, power and courage to say things I need and want no matter what good and bad days I go through in life where swear words are not racist slurs.
Hilarious but also spot on with the insane group think that disempowers parents (white and others) that children are so fragile they can't be corrected. It's a tragedy that a child can talk to their parents like Nathan but I've seen it over and over.
I am autistic. I did not know how to reason when young, and my parents used to hit me if I dared disagree with them. Due to bottled up emotions, I would have breakdowns, and dreaded home more than school. In middle school, I was ready to grab a knife to kill them and myself, and I did in sneak into places in the house with it considering my options. They did not know. When they stopped hitting me after an autism diagnosis and reading parenting books, I was finally able to have conversations with them, but it took years to open up. And I still do not forget every hit I was subjected to.
My mother has given me several ass whooping when I swore in my head, not out loud, nor was 8 saying anything disrespectful. I believe that she is a mind reader.
