Youre not the first person ive seen mention this. Ive also heard some ideas for his supers were given to other characters(still speculative at this point) Including Skrull's Inferno Edit: just saw the part where he mentions this lol
@@captainmega6310 Nova is a sick character in the game they did a great job with his move-list , but human torch being added would’ve have been great also can’t deny that hopefully in the next one HT is added
Funny you say that, since when I played Hyper Street Fighter 2, something similar happened since as soon as I used Ken's Heavy Shoryuken, the TV blackened out lol
According to the guy who helped out Capcom with Marvel relations for the Vs. games (he works at Arcade 1UP now) from a series of tweets, Hirohiko Araki was visiting Capcom (to discuss a potential Heritage for the Future sequel for NAOMI) and suggested adding JoJo characters to MvC 2's roster after seeing a dev build and hearing about their method for reusing sprites. A lot of the devs were excited and begged the series director for approval but he refused because he wanted to avoid another controversy for including non-Marvel/Capcom reps like Norimaro.
Damn. I wonder if Jotaro or Dio or any of the other Stardust Crusaders would've been veteran characters in future titles in that timeline. I know Strider was originally a manga before it got games made by Capcom, so they could've worked out something with JoJo too me thinks.
One of my farfetched dreams was to have DIO in a Vs Capcom game, playing like HttF up to and including having different meter properties That, or have DIO as the icon rep and Kakyoin as the Competitive Nightmare rep to rival Morridoom, or perhaps make it worse
Actually there is one more cut content for UMVC3 that was referenced in the files, Doctor Octopus was apparently a character that was planned for the vanilla game before Ultimate was made. A dummied out reference of him can be found in the files of UMVC3 so it's possible like Human Torch, Doctor Octopus also existed and was running at some point but was scrapped.
Yep! If I recall correctly, he was mostly up and running and even apparently had a theme song composed and everything. Whenever I get around to doing a follow up on this video, that's one of the characters I plan on mentioning.
@@TheSeventhForce alright, you should also mention that UMVC3 was originally gonna have dlc but that was cut. But they had a ton of cut dlc characters. Luke Cage, Jon Talbain and X alongside Doc Ock (X and Jon Talbain being cut really hurts). The main reason for this was apparently due to the disasters in Japan at the time which caused this unfortunately.
@@novembermann4854 Yep, I plan on going over that in a future video! The UMVC3 cut that stings the most for me was Nina, since I'm a huge Breath of Fire fan. IIRC, some stuff got cut with the decision to make Ultimate a a separate re-release (because of the tsunami), and then other stuff got cut a bit later down the line because Capcom higher-ups wanted the game out before the end of 2011. As much as the cuts sting, it's kind of amazing how much additional content UMVC3 got over vanilla considering they put it together in less than a year.
@@TheSeventhForce I'll assume Capcom wanted it on 2011 so as to not overshadow the release of Street Fighter X Tekken in 2012 (which had its own can of worms)...In hindsight maybe they should've held UMVC3 to 2012 instead
Silver Surfer was also originally planned for mvc3 … they had him up to the point where he was functional. But they eventually decided to scrap him because of his physical similarities to ice man, and they had difficulty getting his surfboard animations to work with him. Iirc there was also a story mode planned for umvc3 , but that was also ultimately scrapped. It seemed liked that was passed over to mvci. Sf3’s Gill if I remember was also considered either for umvc3 or Mvci can’t remember which one. Leon not being in umvc3 was a crime. But I get it, re5 was a runaway success during that and so they wanted to implement some re5 into mvc3. Great video btw. I’ll be watching for the cut content ( if there’s any ) for the Capcom vs snk series.
IIRC, Gill was rumored to be part of the scrapped second set of MvCI DLC (alongside Kamala Khan, Asura and Lady, I believe) and was also explicitly confirmed to have been in the running for UMvC3 but lost out to Nemesis in the end.
While this rumor was never really confirmed, there was a leak for vanilla MvC3 that had a some interesting picks, from a site named PS3Gen. That roster included Elektra, War Machine, Emma Frost, Mr. Fantastic, Juggernaut, Frank West, and Chuck Greene. Frank, we know he was meant to show up in the game but got delayed to Ultimate because he required extra time to be finished, but the rest is rather interesting, as they imply that Dormammu, Storm, MODOK, and C. Viper were all chosen later in development. It sounds like just another rumor from the many out there, but I think it's interesting because it dates from July 2010, and it got some characters right, like Taskmaster and Tron.
I actually do remember that leak! I think it was definitely a list based on outdated info (not that the leaker would've known that) considering it called left field characters X-23 and Taskmaster months before they were revealed.
@@TheSeventhForce I have a theory that War Machine was going to be included in the game and was scrapped. BUT similar to Doc Ock, his theme was already finished before he was, so they gave it to Iron man instead.
Leon was also intended to be in Capcom vs SNK, he and Megaman are mentioned in a preview in the November 1999 issue of Edge. There's even a Shinkiro piece floating around with Leon and Kyo Kusanagi. Good video by the way, hope to see more from you!
New information on doc ock was recently discovered. Umvc3 modders we’re able to find the UI pics of Doc Ock no official model but there is Character Select UI for him. He was said to be cut due to his tentacles not working properly within the vanilla game. There is also a cut chun li themed stage kinda like a theme park that was found as well
I am not 100% sure if this is true, but I read that Frank West was cut out of vanilla MvC3 pretty late in development, to the point that he was included in an animated trailer where he was a masked chopper pilot that would have been revealed to be him in the next trailer. Don't remember if what hold him was technical issues or time constraints, but he was eventually added to UMvC3.
Yep, that's true and was also confirmed by MvC3's producer. If I recall, it was a technical issue that came up with him and they decided to spend dev resources finishing the base game first instead before tackling them.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure he still consistently charts around the top or so. Probably would've gotten in Marvel 3 too, if RE5 didn't go and become Capcom's best selling game ever (at the time) between TvC and MvC3.
At the time RE5 was a release title for the PS3 so they went with Chris and Wesker. But I could see a situation for Leon joining as DLC which prob became Jill instead for both her relation to the other representive characters as well as her being a returning character. I much would prefered Leon too
@@Whienzarthmy brother figured capcom decided leon just wasn't realistic enough at the time. However. If the rumored mvc4 comes out he will support be in it.
I still wish for Power Stone, Rival Schools, God Hand, Red Earth or Star Gladiator reps in Capcom vs. games. As for Cyberbots, Devilotte has not been playable character aside from Puzzle games.
I really like insightful looks like this into cut content from games, really fuels the imagination and wonder about all these what ifs we could have had in all these already amazing games. Great video!
Two things you can mention for a future which blew my mind was that during Marvel 3, there were plans to make an animated adaptation of the game, but it was never made due to legal reasons iirc. And the other big thing that blew my mind was that after the success of the Marvel games in the 90s, DC actually approached Capcom and asked them if they could make a fighting game for them. Capcom said no. But the world in which that happened would’ve been insane and could’ve led to a Marvel vs DC game made by Capcom.
The DC thing I was aware of and already plan to talk about in a future video, but the animated adaptation for MvC3 I was completely unaware of! Is there any place I can read up about that?
Would have been incredible since Capcom would have gave them cool moves and animations. Back then Marvel was perfect for Capcom but Capcom left money on the table by denying DC.
Another fun fact is that there is an unused sprite of Karin Kanzuki from Street Fighter in Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter which was mostly just her on Sakura's school outfit. That game came out a full year before Alpha 3, where she was actually playable. It’s quite fascinating that Karin was quite possibly gonna make her playable debut in a crossover game prior Alpha 3. Interesting note this was also based on her appearance from Sakura Ganbaru a manga Karin originally came from.
Definitely going to be covered in the next Cut Content video! Was going to be in this one, but I decided to hold it for the next time I revisit this subject.
Both MSHvsSF and SFA3 should’ve really used that sprite, the Karin in a red uniform on the other hand should’ve debuted as her adult appearance on the 3rd Strike roster.
Wow. I never knew and also bummed out that symbiote suit Spidey was considered being a secret character in Marvel vs. Street Fighter... I can imagine that he would've been a broken character in the game lol. I'm surprised that you didn't mentioned Ingrid from Capcom Fighting All-Stars was another scrapped character:P Especially, since it seems like some worked was put on her considering there's a early in-game screenshot in the TvC Secret File. Couldn't the Capcom devs just have Johnny's flames be a simple flat texture or something ? It's cool that Super Skrull was ultimately chosen to represent the Fantastic Four but still. The reason for the Okami stage in Marvel vs. Capcom 3 is rather funny to me. Like, that didn't stop the Smash Bros. Brawl devs from adding a colorful and vivid stage based on Electroplankton despite how gritty the characters look in Smash Bros. Brawl 🤣
The TvC secret file actually notes that Ingrid was never in consideration for the roster; She was specifically just used as a test model for development purposes.
Awesome vid! I'd like to know if there was cut content for the CVS/SVC series, too. CVS1 happens to be one of my favorite fighters period! I wish Go Mifune/Speed Racer had been considered for TVC, there's potential to that idea I don't think ever got explored.
I've heard in the comments that Silver Surfer and Doctor Octopus weren't added. But next to other scrapped characters for UMvC3 and Tatsunoko Vs Capcom such as Franziska, The Thing, Human Torch, Leon, Nero, Hsien-Ko, and other arcade-based Capcom reps being scrapped altogether. Frankly, Leon and Nero were literally snubbed from their inclusion in a Vs Capcom game, their potential to shine. When the time comes(no pun intended) for them and other scrapped MvC characters to arrive in a fifth entry, perhaps Nero could have an important role to it's story like he was in DMC4 and DMC5; the brash but empathetic descendant of Sparda who'd serve to end the conflict between the cast of Marvel and Capcom reps akin to his home series where Nero despite being the youngest, prevented the brothers from killing each other and reconcile on their goals throughout the Devil May Cry franchise so far(Dante coming to terms of his twin brother rejecting his own son, and Vergil blinded by trauma to the point where he abandoned his humanity just to gain more power).
The Demo and all the simplified control options/moves really turned me off to the game immediately but I still bought it and after tuning off auto combos I found a really fun game and played it a ton, learning all the characters.@@TheSeventhForce
I always heard that Leon didnt make it in TVC was because the inclusion of Frank West. There were in fighting about it during the development stage and agreed to Frank over Leon.
I'm not sure how much validity there is to that claim; Leon was only ever considered for the first release of TvC (Cross Generation of Heroes), and Frank didn't come into the equation until development on Ultimate All-Stars began later down the line.
Kinda strange that you never mentioned Strider despite being included in Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 because for one: Legal Issues. At the time, Capcom didn't own the Strider IP & Hiroshi Motomiya/Kadokawa Shoten held the IP. However it [possibly] caused backlash & demand by the fans to include him in the updated Marvel 3 Installment, Ryota Niitsuma & Capcom decided to work something out with Motomiya & Shoten
My understanding of the Strider situation is that it's less legal issues with the Strider license and moreso that they just have to get the IP co-owners to sign off on any commercial endeavor using him. MvC3s producer clarified after UMvC3 released that Moto Kikaku was never the issue and that they've generally always been cooperative (Strider gets re-released all the time; even within moths of MvC3, IIRC!), the dev team just really underestimated how enduring his popularity was in leaving him out of vanilla MvC3.
I saw! I've been working on a script for a follow up to this the past few weeks that talked about Ock and Frank, but now I'll have to rewrite it to account for the new discovery lol
Thing about Frank he was sort of “confirmed” through silhouettes we got for base game. We presumably got really far into development and the devs just couldn’t finish him in time and just added him to ultimate
@@Chckster For Frank specifically, it was said by the producer that the issues with him rose when testing the game in a network environment; My guess is that he was originally going to have a moveset closer to his TvC incarnation, but the zombie summoning probably complicated things, so they held off on him so they could rework his moveset. And yeah, they specifically confirmed that he was in marketing materials as a silhouette and was the unnamed helicopter pilot in the second CG trailer for the game.
why didn't you bring up any of the cut tatsunoko characters? Or how a character in the japanese release for TvC was removed for copyright reasons so they had to comprimise by adding two new characters? I know it's lesser known but it's still interesting
Who are your most wanted pick from Capcom and Marvel to never make a VS game? Marvel characters - Groo The Wanderer and The Beyonder as a boss Capcom - Adon and Demitri as a boss
As far as Capcom characters go, pretty much any character from Breath of Fire. Myria from BoF 1 & 3 in particular would make for a good boss. On the Marvel side? I've always thought Emma Frost would be really, really cool.
7:47 What if capcom need crossovers band new characters is Franziska Von Karma from Phoenix Ace Attorney series most amazing work put tatsunoko vs. capcom series easter egg I wish Marvel Vs. Capcom 4 Phoenix Wright Rival Franziska Von Karma way show up so epic.
Silver Surfer was planned for Marvel 3. He was gonna play on his board. The dev team scrapped this and decided to have him fight without it due to difficulty. They then decided to just scrap the character entirely due to him being too similar to ice man. Not sure if this is true, just heard it a lot in a forum back in the day. In the same forum there was this image of SS in the MVC3 art style. If it’s true then he even had a portrait Edit: Important to keep in mind that from what I’ve seen this leak of the silver surfer was being worked on while super skrull was already so there’s a timeline
Silver Surfer being planned is true, the image that floated around (IIRC, it showed him alongside Doom and Skull) was fabricated. Galactus was a pretty common guess for the final boss from a lot of people back then, so I wouldn't quite 100% use it as a basis to ground a leak source.

Seventh out here “And there’s another AA character that was considered as a secret character on the roster” *me not looking at the video playing on my phone while cooking.* *video cuts to DBZ Dokkan Battle ad.* Goku screaming Kamehameha! *insert moment of confused “wait Goku isn’t an AA character, what.”
These games up until MvsC2 will always be my favorite games. The Marvel Capcom games, starting from Xmen Children of the Atom, Marvel Super heroes, then XMen vs SF and MSH vs SF, and ending with Marvel vs Capcom 1 and 2. These 6 games will forever hold a special spot in the highest ranks of S tier fighting games! Personally, when you talk about MSH vs SF, that game is kinda forgotten sometimes but, I feel like that game was MILES better than the first Marvel vs Capcom. Most people I've talked to about these games agree, it's mainly the characters and the gameplay, the secret characters, yeah the graphics/art are better in MvC1 but everything besides the visuals was better in Xmen vs SF and MHS vs SF.
Ingrid’s character model is in TVC’s file as she was a planned character. Her model was to be used for Komugi as well. With in game characters, it’s used for Jun the Swan, Saki, and 1 to 1 for Yatterman-2. Viewtiful Joe’s model is Ryu’s but shrunk, which will remain throughout all his VS series appearances. However Roll’s character model is completely unique. Also Roll is the hardest character for the game to understand for several reasons: her hitbox is smaller on the right side slightly than left, but she’s still smaller than Viewtiful Joe. Also, there were early concepts that a mega crash could be done on the ground to stop OTG combos, this was scrapped for irrelevance, but apparently was decided too late in Roll’s development and with her unique assets was left in. She is the only character with proper OTG combos in the game and was to worry very minimally about Mega Crash (and it’s easy to predict when an opponent may try it as once they’re down there’s no escape). The only attempt they made to balance it was to cut her damage down 10-15% overall and intentionally added 1 file that stops her level 3 from initiating cinematic and unscaled damage when hitting OTG. Capcom was lazy back then too.
I knew about the hitbox weirdness with Joe and Roll, but I didn't know about the Mega Crash concept! Is there any place I can read up on that? From what I understand, TvC is kind of a miraculous mess of code built on top of 8ing's previous fighting game work, and that Roll stuff in particular definitely falls in line with what I've heard.
I really enjoyed your video! You got a sub sir. Can you do a video on Final Fantasy Versus XIII? talk about bumpy making process. Apparently, production began way back in 2003. Thanks!
really wish we had gotten a tatsunoko vs. capcom sequel as i would've loved leon(love to see him & ada wong in a new mvc.),franciska, june, ibuki(would've preferred her over alex.) & especially rogue(power stone needs to be in the vs. games already outside cameos as edward falcon, rogue, ayame & ryoma would fit.:3).
I’m kinda curious how Nero would have played in TVC if I want to be honest. Also I’m surprised blodia wasn’t chosen for the giant mech character in TVC
I imagine they probably wanted to represent a series that hadn't been in the series before. A robot from Tech Romancer would've been my personal choice (I think G. Kaiser is in a TvC ending or two...) but Lost Planet's a pretty inspired pick, too.
@@TheSeventhForce (G Kaiser is in PTX-40A ending) but I guess that makes sense plus if they were to add another giant robot in TVC in the capcom side they would also need another giant robot for the tatsunoko side as well
It's the Final Fight CD arrangement of the Andore Boss Theme. I'll have a google doc in this (and future videos) in the description naming all the songs used in any given video.
Is this the homie SevenForce from Era? If so, it's Doctrine Dark. Really missed you and glad I found your channel. I always considered you the Vs series historian. Stuff like the rights keeping Iron Man and Doom out of MSH Vs SF was entirely new to me. Hope you've been well.
Bruhhhh! How've you been? And yeah, Era got increasingly miserable to be around after a while (Fgc Era not included, I miss y'all) so I dipped out. Glad to hear from you, man!
@@TheSeventhForce Nice! I've been good. Just playing SF6 and yelling as I deal with Ken's Drive Rush while stuck in the corner. I was pretty sad when I saw you were gone, but thankfully I found you here. Have you been enjoying SF6?
@@SpiralSword40 Oh man yeah, I've been having a great time with SF6. Haven't gotten to play as much as I'd like these past few weeks, but once things slow down life-wise on my end, I'll sit down and do the grind out of Platinum to get Kim to Diamond. I actually really enjoy the Ken matchup; it's Juri that's a pain in the ass for me, lol
9:00 i always thought was stupid in some way "coulndt be included because copyright" and i said what do tatsunko isnt the owner of those animes do they gonna sue themselves or something? just like the voices in smash bros " we couldnt use them" but you made them wtf 11:42 i have the feeling this could apply to demitri from darkstalkers too since AURA characters always need their animation going and going while every characters have 3d model even amateratsu fire is 3d
There's a handful of IP that Tatsunoko seems to at least share rights with; (Tekkaman Blade might be one, since that was co-produced with Sotsu as far as I'm aware) but generally speaking, at least in Japan there's not many licensing issues at all outside of a few cases (I think it was implied that SoulTaker in particular was an issue because of legal weirdness, but I'm not sure to what extent.) They could've also been talking with international licensing in mind as well: A lot of the international licenses for the characters were split between a ton of production companies outside of Tatsunoko themselves. And TvC/MvC3's producer actually specifically mentioned Demitri as a character that likely wouldn't make it to a Marvel Vs. game, albeit for a different reason altogether; Marvel would absolutely shut down the idea of his Midnight Bliss super, and without that, he's missing a lot of what makes him a unique, memorable character.
The issue wasn’t just in Japan but the U.S. as well the biggest one being that some of the characters in the game they didn’t know who held the rights which is why one character was seen in the Japanese release but not the U.S. release
