Thank you very much for this and your other informative videos on the Govee Permanent Outdoor Lights. Because of your videos, I was confident going into my installation that required some significant modifications due to our home's unique layout. I ended up making a Y-connector from spare end connectors (cut off the end of one shortened run and one unused section) to split power because our power outlet is in the middle of the run, and also cut and spliced another run to go around a chimney. All butt-crimped and heat shrinked, and all tested out successfully today! :)

It looks like the Govee extension cable has an F-amp in it. Basically a signal booster/cleaner. I wonder if it would have worked if you put the Govee extender in the middle or end of the two off brand ones instead of at the beginning.

just a few tips from a tech who uses butt connectors on the reg. - The butt connectors that are pre-shrink tube wrapped are kinda garbage. Its easy to pierce the heat shrink when crimping thus breaking the seal. Use bare butt connectors and good black heat shrink with resin. Some heat shrink doesnt have an inner resin coating so make sure yours does. - You can also stagger the connections for a cleaner, leaner look. - If you dont have a crimper or dont want to buy bare as well as heat shrink, they make a low temp solder butt connector. Its a heat shrink tube with low temp solder inside and ya slip it over and heat it up and thats it.

Interesting video. Thank you for sharing. I'd be concerned that moisture from humidity and condensation would eventually penetrate the white box where the cables enter and eventually cause a problem. It would be better if you used a waterproof coupler, either directly attached to the box or just on the cables themselves, to ensure a secure, water tight environment to protect the wiring.

Hey Chris, I really hope you see this comment and are able to respond, because it will save me a considerable amount of money. In your video where you talk about cut the lights off these strands, you make it a point to show you doing this with the 705 model and the 706 pro model. From my understanding about what you said in that video, about this video, is that in this video you are using the 705 model in this video, is that correct? I hope so because if you are using the 705 model, it saves me a ton of money. Govee stopped making the 50ft strands, and I need two 50ft strands and one 100ft strand. The actual lengths I need are 60ft, 35ft and 40ft. I understand I will have to purchase the pro kit for the 60 ft section, but the other two I'm looking to purchase the 50ft regular kit because it saves me $400, and govee doesn't make the pro kit in 50ft (Go figure..) anyways, I hope you can clarify because clarification will help me tremendously.

@@Kfs-d1k thanks for watching! The pro model and the original model use different LEDs and are not compatible. You have to pick one or the other. Also the pro model does not yet work WLED in case you were wanting to convert. Only the original works with WLED. Hope that helps!

I've been watching a ton of RU-vid videos on which LEDs to buy for this Christmas (2023). I fucked up my cheap lights last year when "Ripping" them off the house! They are over 5 years old and I've always wanted to do the LEDS. Only my two story house has a lot of dif. sections needing extensions. As of right now, I think Govee only allows "Cuts" Thank you... I will click the link if you have an affiliate link for the lights if I choose them!

Great video - I watched it a few times but decided to try and keep my lights intact instead. I am at a bit of a loss, maybe someone can help. I found a cable that fits into the sockets with only a minor adjustment (cutting off the threads). I have the lights broken into 3 sections with 2 strings in each and they can easily be reached with the single provided extension - I just only have 1. I tested all the lights together first before I out any of them up. I had the first 2 groups working with the supplied extension between them. Then I tested this one that I bought - it worked!. So now I have the first 2 groups (4 light strands in total) with a 3rd party extension between them. I went to add the govee extension to connect the last set of lights... and they dont work. I am not sure what I missed. So I have 2 strings of lights, 3rd party extension (maybe 9ft max), 2 sets of lights, govee extension, 2 sets of lights. The last set will not turn on. Anyone have guesses?

Could you add a section off one of the extensions as a Y? Or does this have to be one continuous chain? I have a section that doesn't really follow a linear path and I need to either Y the cable off, or route a wire all the way back to split point to continue on which I'd rather not do if I can get away with it.

I only need one more extension cable so not sure I need to splice. Do you have another recommendation? The link for 3rd party extension connectors are sold out.

Great videos. Do you know if we can invert the extremity where we plug the power and control ? Because my leds are already in place. But will be a lot more estetic if I change the power from one extremity to the other. Tks

Great video. What would they look like if installed closer to wall then 2"? I have some side areas where there is no overhang.

Will the 18 gauge single wire be okay outside over time?
