This is the twenty first installment of my build of the CV-6. In this video I am finalizing the build of the island, or island coning tower. The tripod mast is built, the CXAM radar, directors, search lights and more, then I am weathering up the island and rigging the masts.
The build is based on the Trumpeter 03712 kit with detail up sets from Pontos and KA-models; trying to use the best of both sets.

Great work, I really enjoyed the videos. You mentioned dark searchlights, most of the searchlights had a dark cover that was hinged on the left side. This would be closed to prevent any accidental glare.
@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench 11 месяцев назад
Thank, I am glad you enjoyed them 😊 I am aware of the covers, but I have seen quite a few that have painted the inside black (behind the glass).

Yes, this looks great. I always find it amazing how people can film themselves working. My cursing and swearing would get me kicked off RU-vid in a second. Spend 3 hours scratchbuilding the Bridge ( Yorktown was very similar to Enterprise ) - perhaps I should have bought the Pontos set afterall. I would still add a few more rigging on the main mast for the signal flags. That would put a finishing touch to it I think. I use Infinity-rigging for that.
@NorwegianModellingBench

Thanks 🙏 I don’t know, but I seldom loose my temper when working with models. Well, it’s never too late to add more rigging if I feel something is missing. I use MIG and Uschi van der Rosten for rigging.

Solid railings on ships are called 'bulwarks'.

My answer to your question has been bugging me as I had an uneasy suspicion that it was less than fully correct. After several months of digging I now believe 'Mantlet' is the correct term. This was a gap in my knowledge base as well as Mantlet is apparently a ridiculously obscure term today.@@NorwegianModellingBench
@NorwegianModellingBench

@@ducttapetech9885 According to Wikipedia a mantlet is a portable shield (or temporary), I think bulwark is the correct nautical term, but thank you for checking it out.
